I was at the game tonight, lots of fun. We had purchased marginal seats on StubHub, seat owner couldn't come across, StubHub made good with some fairly exceptional seats under the press box. It was a reliever's game, Walker started, Manaea pitched 4 2/3 innings of scoreless ball...in the stands, we all theorized the Giants are trying to get rid of him, Haniger, Wood and Bart.

Give Manaea a start or two. I know he had trouble starting the season, but he can't be worse than Stripling or Spaghetti, and maybe even Wood.

Keep Haniger. The Giants need his power (signed through ‘25 with the last season a player option).
Manea - if he were a rental, he would be someone who could be traded. Because he is signed through next season, nobody will want him.
Wood - deal him if Harrison and Winn are on track to come back in September. Otherwise, you gotta keep him.
Bart - a bag of scuffed baseballs for him would be a good deal at this point.
Ramos - include him in a deal as a secondary player to bump up the return.

I watched the entire game vs. Sox on Sunday. Reminded me of torture from the WS teams. Was screaming at my TV to put Turner on 1st with tying run at 3rd. Next pitch, Giants are trailing.
Out of 11 hits, 9 singles, and so much weak contact. Out of 28 hits over the series the Giants mustered just 6 XBH. The Sox had 21 and 9 were XBH. Nine runs in 3 games on 28 hits. It’s a miracle the Giants won the series. Do you think the Giants are gonna hold most teams to 7 runs over 3 games?
One thing I will say is positive. The small ball game and just trying to scratch out runs while keeping it close is definitely good post season preparation. Kapler used every player on his bench by the 9th inning, including PH Wade for Luciano who GIDP - dumb. I had every confidence in the world Crawford would get the bunt down in the 11th. I don’t know if most teams have guys who can do that. Schmitt looked lost trying to bunt the previous AB before he walked.
WTF did they ever send Beck down? The guy plays the 2-3 inning role really well. Hopefully he’s out of options and/or stays in S.F. the rest of way.
Anyway, Tommy Pham is the guy I see available who might give the Giants a difference making bat in trade who won’t cost much. Has .820 OPS, which would be #3 on Giants, only .1 behind Pederson.

No, it’s not a miracle. They pitched and played good defense. You can win a lot of games doing that.
Injuries. I keep saying it. Now Yaz. Plus Wade with a bulky back. Not good.
Kapler almost cost them the game. Not by pitching to Turner. That would have put lead run on first. And Devers on deck. So, understand why he didn5bwalk him.
He almost cost them game by his over platoon crap. He pinch hit Yaz for Slater leading off the THIRD. I said at the time that it was dumb. Because (1) there might come a high leverage situation later where you want Slater - with Yaz in position to PH then. Sure enough - 5th inning. Giants have 1st and 3d one out and Slater’s spot comes up with lefty on mound. By this time Yaz is out so Pederson is in. Flys out to short center. Runner can’t advance.
Had Kapler not pulled Slater leading off the flipping third inning, he’d either have had Slater vs a lefty; or forced Boston to bring in a right hander. And THEN he can use Yaz.
Good managers don’t just think about the situation at hand. They think about down the line. Kapler pulls the platoon switch too early quite often. But have to say - top third was early even for him…Guess the computer said otherwise….

Good story on Beck in the Athletic. Ross Stripling was highly complimentary of Beck, who has a 141 ERA+ in 50 major league innings, meaning he's doing 41% better than the average MLB pitcher. Stripling said "He's got an amazing heater. He's got two amazing breaking balls...he's a savage out there." Kapler also highly complimentary of Beck.
Giants can only send Beck down one more time without exposing him to waivers.
Giants are 14-4 when using Alexander, Walker or Brebbia as openers. I don't imagine that strategy will change much. ANd they're 31-26 against teams with .500 or better records, fifth best in MLB.
And I think pinch hitting for Slater was a brobdingnagian mistake. Yaz and Slater have similar statistics against RHPs...but Yaz has a balky hamstring. One more reason to save him for later in the game.

Ramos was too much to give or the Mets weren't interested. We'll never know, but the Giants certainly did inquire about him and Mark Canha for sure if they are getting 53 OPS+ AJ Pollock. Nothing makes more sense than adding a guy to a terrible offense who sucks himself. David Villar's OPS+ is 50 for comparison.
This Giants team gets there in a different way, but it's striking how similar it has become to the Sabean "torture" teams in terms of run scoring. Zaidi and Sabean have completely different team building and player deployment philosophies, but the results are eerily similar. Good pitching, almost no speed, athleticism, or power, and find a way to eke out 3-2 or 4-3 wins. Pretty much lose any game you give up 4 or more. Maybe Pollock will be this year's Cody Ross...

I'm pretty sure Pederson is over it and would love to have an .820 OPS bat in the lineup.

For those (like me) who don't remember the details, here's a CBS story covering the altercation and aftermath. Threatened assault charges, accusations of cheating in a $10K buy-in Fantasy Football League, multi-game suspension, Giants refusing to play if Pham was in the next series, T-Shirts made mocking Pham worn by Giant players, and Pham doubling down on his accusation weeks later (prior to the next Reds/Giants series)?
Yeah, I can easily believe the clubhouse asked management to find another guy and had concerns over locker room chemistry. It's just too soon. And this is why you don't place large bets in the workplace. /Lefty

Well, now y'all get to hope Tommy Pham doesn't help the D-Backs win the series this week.
The Mets trade him so D-backs for... 17-year-old infielder Jeremy Rodríguez, who’s batting .256 in the Dominican Summer League.
If the Giants got Pham for that kind of price they could have cut him if he didn't play nice with his teammates in S.F. But not to worry, I'm sure AJ Pollock will be better...
Or... Maybe the Giants are counting on Wade Meckler this year, as he has just been promoted to Sacramento! Would have preferred Vaun Brown to be the guy moving up, but he's struggled this year in Richmond. How long will Meckler be in Sacramento before getting called up to Giants? Luciano only lasted a week there.
And Kyle Harrison is returning to the mound this coming weekend.
And Thairo Estrada starts playin Sac tonight with expected return this weekend.

Giants won 4-3 tonight. Crawford and Late Night Lamont wade had home runs. Manaea had the first save of his career. Giants catchers threw out two stolen base attempts, and Bailey picked a runner off of first base for the last out of the game. Bailey has now thrown out 19 base runners since he's been called up, best in MLB in that time. Next best is 13. Bailey threw out Jace Peterson, who has stolen 11 bases in 12 attempts. Bailey threw them out from his knees.
Here's some interesting stats: in 2012, the Giants were 59-49 after 108 games, exactly what they are today. In 2014, the Giants were 58-50 in 2010, the Giants were 62-46...so we're right on track.
