On TV I saw #91 on the DL -- wasn't that Shaffer?

I must be missing something, but how has Herbig shown anywhere near enough to be drafted very high by the NFL? This year he has been hurt a bit, and has been part of the disaster we call the OL. The year before, he played OK, but not great. He wasn't plowing through the defense. If he wants a reasonable draft slot, he isn't going to get it this year, IMHO. No point in giving up a year at Stanford to go in the sixth round, or be a UFA (more probable).

Agree 100%.

Hey Bobbbbb and Q, Shaffer listed in the UDub box score as having participated.

Remember the NFL drafts on the basis of potential, not necessarily performance.  At the beginning of the year I would have said he was guaranteed to go pro; but I put a question mark on his likelihood of going pro.  On the other hand, Quenton Meeks is a good case study of someone who left after his junior year, and was undrafted.  You might think that's a cautionary tale, but Meeks is now starting, and as everyone knows the key is the player's second contract, not the rookie contract.  I'm not saying Herbig will go pro, just that having a bad/ijured year is not necessarily indicative of the fact he'll stay.

You can consider Fox' shirt burnt and move him up to the "first year" category.

Since reports were that Shaw was the only coach in the room who voted against offering Luck I have to chuckle at the last post.

He was also the guy who decided not to offer Josh Rosen.  Here are Rosen's stats in his three years at UCLA:

2015: 292/487 (60%), 3669 yards (7.5 YPA), 23 TD, 11 INT, PER 134
2016: 137/231 (59%), 1915 yards (8.3 YPA), 10 TD, 5 INT, PER 139
2017: 283/452 (63%), 3756 yards (8.3 YPA), 26 TD, 10 INT, PER 147
Career: 712/1170 (61%), 9340 yards (8.0 ypa), 59 TD, 26 INT, PER 140

Could have helped us in 2016 and 2017. On the other hand, it's a fair bet that Costello goes elsewhere had Rosen been on the roster, and Costello's year this year is way better than Rosen's best year.

Yes; will move him over once he has played five games. (The report is wrong, though; he's only played in three games, not four.)

  • Trevor Speights and Mustafa Branch did not play against OSU due to injury. Their status for Saturday is unknown at this point.
  • Since JJAW's status for Kal is up in the air, Connor Wedington remains marked as starter opposite Trent Irwin. JJAW may play, and if he plays, he'll start. Looks like they are going to try to preserve a redshirt this year for Connor, so he'll sit if JJAW can go.
  • Kaden Smith's status also a question mark. Of course, Colby Parkinson will start if Smith is out, but my guess is that Smith will play since he did so against OSU with the same injury.
  • Dylan Powell was the starter at RG against OSU in place of an injured Nate Herbig, who remains injured. Devery Hamilton, who was also injured for the OSU game, may or may not be healthy for Kal. In the past, Drew Dalman has started at RG over Devery Hamilton in Herbig's absence, but Dalman also remains injured. Hamilton may start if healthy, but my guess is that Powell starts again at RG.
  • Casey Toohill remains out (what a bummer), as does Joey Alfieri. Gabe Reid will start opposite Jordan Fox.
  • Collin Riccitelli remains the kicker, unless Jet Toner makes a speedy recovery.
  • Lotsa true freshmen played against OSU. In addition to burnt shirts Michael Wilson, Thomas Booker, and Kendall Williamson, the following true freshmen played: Jack West, Justus Woods, Cameron McFarlane, Simi Fehoko, Grant Pease, Andres Fox, Ricky Miezan, Ethan Bonner. For McFarlane, Fehoko, Miezan, and Bonner, it was their first appearance. For West, Woods, and Pease, it was their second. And for Fox, it was his third; looks like he is probably headed for flames.
  • The only non-injured non-freshmen scholarship players not to play? Donald Stewart, IBS, Jordan Perez, Treyjohn Butler. Make of that what you will.
  • Non-freshman walk-ons who got PT against OSU? Harry Schwartz, Dylan Boles, Thunder Keck, Anthony Trinh, Lewis Burik, J.J. Parson, Collin Riccitelli. Good work, guys.

Thanks for this Langdude - very helpful!

I live for the day we have Jet, Thunder and Justus on the field at the same time....during a game.

Just for grins, I looked up the NFL passing leaders by rating this morning.  Brees is #1, former Cal QBs Goff (#5) and Rodgers (#10), former Stanford QB Luck (#15), former Oregon QB Marcus Mariota (#23), former USC QB Sam Darnold (#31) and last and most likely least, former UCLA QB Rosen at dead last in the NFL at #32 in the NFL QB Ratings

RE: 2018 Stanford Football Personnel - Langdude - 11-19-2018

In wondering about our roster for upcoming years, there have been some questions about how many games in which various non-redshirted players have appeared. For reference, here are all burnt shirts, and how many games they have played this season. As a reminder, after appearing in five games, a player is not eligible to redshirt.

Freshmen
DE Thomas Booker (10/10)
CB Kendall Williamson (7/10)
WR Michael Wilson (10/10)

Sophomores
OT Walker Little (10/10)
TE Colby Parkinson (10/10)
OT Foster Sarell (2/10)
WR Connor Wedington (3/10)

Juniors
OG Nate Herbig (6/10)
LS Richard McNitzky (10/10)
OLB Curtis Robinson (2/10)
WR Donald Stewart (3/10)

Seniors
P Jake Bailey (10/10)
ILB Mustafa Branch (9/10)
S Ben Edwards (3/10)
WR Trent Irwin (10/10)
RB Bryce Love (8/10)

M*A*S*H Unit. Well, there are a lot of injuries. Let's go by position. Frosh Force. There were a number of true freshmen that played against UCLA. Redshirt Watch. Here's some notations on possible redshirts and burns. As a reminder, you can play in four games and still be eligible to redshirt. Walk-on Warriors. The following walk-ons got PT against UCLA.

  • CB Treyjohn Butler. No idea.
  • Brian Chaffin. I don't think he's injured.
  • QB Jack Richardson. We needed all of KJ Costello.
  • OLB Curtis Robinson. Redshirt preservation.
