I hope Vandy and Stanford make the CWS and we see this kid a couple more times. He is not Walter Johnson yet but especially in this era of coddling kids like infants he threw 131 pitches and struck out 19. He is already better than anybody on the Giants staff. It will be interesting to see how he develops. The three year wait to be drafted has been mandated by his family and I usually agree with it. Not this time but I’m old and hope I’m still around to see him in a Giants uni, assuming they suck as much in two years.
Fortunately he won't throw 200 innings a year for the next 2 years, so he should have some arm left. Phogge, do you think MadBum is done, i.e. ordinary now?

He’s not the same guy which is not surprising. Seems like back in the day there were more power pitchers who morphed over the years and stayed competitive. Spahn, Wynn, Bunning........

Muncy just hit one into the Bay off Bum. He stood and admired it and, as the euphemisms go, "some words were exchanged." The ump had to keep Bum on the mound as Muncy rounded the bases.

Yeah, and aside from the solo HR, Bum pitched 7 innings and allowed 0 runs on 4 hits to one of the mom prolific offenses in MLB. He also pitched pretty well at the Mets in his last start minus a couple HRs.
He is at least bolstering his trade value.

Vintage Miller on display tonight. Some nasty pitches and strikeouts followed by complete loss of control. Esquer needs to get him out of this game.

Miller already has walked 4, including the tying run.
Bats need to wake up. Trailing 4-1 already...Miller's night is over.

4-1 now. Bases loaded triple almost caught and almost a HR.

Crowd noise a factor on that play with the outfielders not able to hear each other?

We’re toast. I stand by my earlier contention that home field is worth several runs for Mississppi State. Our kids are playing in front of more fans in two nights than the number who showed up to Sunken Diamond all season. Miller has always been prone to wildness but I think the atmosphere tonight exacerbated it for him.
Hats off to the Bulldogs and their fans. Let’s go out and get a top 8 seed next year.

Now down 5-1, but we have 6 innings left to come back.

Just wondering how many times our runners are going to have to be gunned down on third base before we stop attempting to steal it. Especially with two outs. WTF?

Certainly looks like it. What was that 3rd Base, Cather thing? Doesn't anyone call the catch? Then steal 3rd with 2 out and down 4? Poor baseball and they definitely appear to have better pitching, better hitting and the home field. Tough Venue under these conditions.

I think our pitching was adequate. Our hitting and fielding was below the level needed to get to the CWS.

Brief update on the Miss St player.

Not much in the way of details, but he’s reported to be stable.

Now 8-1 in the 9th.
Didn't expect us to win this series, but I did think we would put up a better fight.
Bruins down two with three more outs to go.

93 today with a good cutter. He’s still a very good pitcher. Has not lost much. On a contender he will be a factor.

3 runs in two games. Not the way we wanted to go out. Great season, though.

UCLA eliminated also.

Can't win a series with that effort at the plate - a run or two per game just won't cut it. Met my expectations though in winning the regional, so I can't complain too much for not getting gravy.
