Giants won their 11th in 13 games, 8-4 over the Rockies. Dickerson 4 for 5, Yastrzemski 3 for 5, Crawford home run, Posey/Pillar/Panik 2 hits each. And they left 17 on base. Pillar, two fantastic diving catches. Giants played airtight defense. Pomeranz, 5 innings, gave up one run. Slater rested, thank goodness. He's been under the weather, running a fever last 3-4 days. He'll be back strong.
Phillies and Brewers both won, Giants didn't make up any ground. Giants now three games under .500 at 46-49. Went ahead of Padres, now tied with Rockies.

Hey, all I know is they are fun to watch right now. I trust Farhan to make the right decision. Whatever that may be. I still think it’s sell. But I’m the same guy that had them going 1-6 or at best 2-5 on this trip. Often wrong, seldom uncertain.....
BTW. Giants 3 wins in this series equals the number of wins they had at Coors in prior 21.
Of all the newbies, Dickerson excites me the most. I love left handed hitters with short quick strokes. He has good discipline and he hits the ball HARD to all fields. Keeping him healthy will be the key. Back issues are never good.
Slater needs to get out of Colorado. I think he’s having nightmares about playing in right there.
Also, let me throw out a little love for Donavan Solano. 31. Minor leagues last several years. Has made the most of his opportunity. I love it when that happens.

Over the course of the season, Giants have climbed to #21 in runs scored in MLB (of 30 teams), one behind Cleveland Indians. #20 in fielding, #15 in ERA and #15 in WHIP. Since July 1, their ERA is nearly a full run below their season average, their OPS is #2 in MLB and they have the most HRs.

I have yet to see any national baseball reporter acknowledge the run the Giants are on. Maybe that changes today or tomorrow, but every single story I have seen assumes the Giants are trading Bumgarner and Smith because they aren't contenders, and because both guys are going to be free agents.

Actually yesterday Jim Bowden the former Cincy GM talked about it and also the potential manager.
His choice for manager Cash the Tampa Bay manager. Don’t know much about him except his contract had like 6 more years

Cash is a hot commodity. Tampa is interesting. He does a lot of metric stuff. Has used openers. Not afraid to think outside the box.

OK, this is getting stupid. The Giants beat the Rockies 11-8 today. They had 18 hits! Have they ever swept the Rockies 4 straight at Coor's Field, like they just did? They are now 47-49.
Still, Jeff Passan of ESPN wrote today: The. Giants. Are. Sellers. His way of emphasizing the point.
This column says it doesn't matter when the wins (or losses) happen, that they all count the same in the standings. Then he goes on to point out that the Giants will sell because they are 3 games below .500 and have the third worst run differential in the NL.

Perhaps because both marks are improving, ownership and personnel can come to an agreement that if they can't sell - so they can maybe play meaningful games in September - they also won't buy, to preserve their younger assets?

They have younger assets to preserve? I admittedly don't follow closely, but the image I got from reading these threads was that the farm club cupboard was pretty bare.
Generally the run differential (or the pythagorean) is a better indicator of long-term wins losses than current record. The differential would suggest that the Giants have been "lucky" and that a reasonable expectation is that their record will revert. However, if one were an optimist and wanted to believe that there was a chance at the playoffs, it would be on the thinking that recent performance will project through the end of the year better than early season performance. Probably wishful thinking, but you never know.

The run differential is important, but that number is a bit misleading in terms of making an assessment of the team now. The Giants have had very different teams from April-May and from June-July, in terms of personnel. Specifically, the April-May team had four Outfielders that the June-July team has totally replaced.
It is looking like having three legit MLB OFs in the lineup every day is a rising tide that has lifted all the other lineup boats. But it is also possible the improved offense is taking pressure off pitchers and allowing them to perform better.
The April-May Giants averaged about 3.4 runs per game. The June-July Giants are averaging 4.4 per game and 7+ in July alone. It simply is not accurate to judge the current team based on the full season’s record because so many different guys are on the roster on the team performing well that weren’t when it was not.
As for prospects, the Giants have some promising ones, but they are all no higher than A ball for the most part.

Couple of thoughts:
1. They're 2.5 back in the wild card race
2. Won 11 of 13, including the past five straight, longest winning streak in the majors.
3. The two teams tied for the second playoff spot have negative run differentials.
4. The Giants' run differential is fourth worst, not third worst.

Giants, 3-2, 16 innings. MadBum and Syndergaard pitcher's duel. MadBum 94 pitches in nine innings. Giants use seven pitchers. Pete Alonso homers top of 16th (Oh No!), consecutive doubles by Dickerson and Crawford, then load the bases (Slater HBP on first pitch to kick it off!), Solano singles home winning run with no outs.
Sixth straight win, 13 of 15, one game under .500, still 2.5 back in wild card, one back of Arizona, firmly in third place in the NL West. Giants are 25-15 since June 1st. If they maintain that pace, they'll finish 88-74. Their low water mark was 34-46, they've gone 14-3 since. If they maintain that pace, they'll win over 100.
And why not? On July 10, 2016, the Giants were 24 games over .500, the best team in baseball. The rest of the year, they were the worst team in baseball. Why can't it happen in reverse?
Today, we have Beede vs. last year's Cy Young winner DeGrom. DeGrom has been pitching GREAT last 10 starts (2.57 ERA). Hope Slater gets to play.

A reporter asks is the winning hurting the trade possibilities. Bouchy says winning is good.
Same problem Bum and Smith are free agents. We have our thoughts but what are the Giants Bum and Smith thoughts on resigning ? That’s the key
