All great outfielders.
I'll go with Tris Speaker, Ty Cobb and Sam Rice. Three American leaguers, #1, #2 and #11 all-time in career OF assists. Their careers overlapped for 11 seasons, 1917-1927. No GG then, but I imagine they would have been the three.

Paul Blair, in his prime, was a great CF to watch. he played very very shallow and rarely was a ball over his head for a hit. a lot of his OF assists were force outs at 2B.

True, it was a dead ball era for three of those 11 seasons. I would also submit that the gloves of the day were quite mediocre as well. And all three guys had speed. Cobb stole 897 bases, Speaker stole 436 (and is the career leader in doubles with 792), and Rice stole 351 bases. They had 295, 222 and 184 triples, respectively. As much as I admire Mays, Clemente and Flood, they weren't in the same ballpark in terms of doubles, triples or stolen bases.

I would take Ruth in right and Williams in left. Mays in center who catches anything he can get to. Gehrig, Hornsby, Honus Wagner and Schmidt. Plus Yogi behind the plate, one of the best money players of all time. I don’t care how many errors they make.
Walter Johnson pitches on all even days and Koufax on all odd. Don’t need a pen.

Stolen bases in the really old days were far easier. Slow windups slower pitches and the catchers gloves meant for catching period not catch and throw.

Of course they weren’t. Home runs came into play. Ruth changing the game. I was talking arms, anyway. GG’s not offense. If I want anoutfield based on offense it’s Mays, Bonds and Williams. Barry could play right field.

Muncy didn’t get the error but his short relay was to the wrong side of the plate. Brutal from that distance. Gotta love the Rays. The handling of pitchers is ridiculous. They are treated like American Pharoah.

I don't understand why there was not two errors on that play. There has to be a second error either on the 1B or C. Maybe someone can explain to me why. Even with the first error, the second run does not score unless there is a second error...

Muncy was at fault for a poor throw but if Smith’s eyes were on the ball then he catches it. Taylor bobbled the ball but his throw hit Muncy perfectly and so without Smith’s bobble they get the runner. I assume Smith called for the cut but who knows. I think Smith should have been charged. Then there was the on deck Ray who crossed the first base line before Azorenka touched home. Not quite a Merkle play but close.

I didn't watch the game live, but the highlights are pretty fun to watch.

Because there was only one base advanced - third to home. If the game hadn’t ended maybe they would have given Taylor an error as Phillips reached second.

There was another error - a mental one - without which this whole scenario would not have ended in a walkoff
Kenley Jansen was standing there, inside the third base line, about 15 feet up from the plate. Arozarena is on the ground after his comical attempt to put on the brakes. Had Jansen backed up the catcher, Arozarena is dead.
Awesome.

I am hoping against hope that this astonishing walk-off sequence does to the Dodgers's heads what Kirk Gibson did to the A's in 1988. A far different situation, of course, but still. To this day, I get almost puke when I'm subjected to the endless replays of the exultant, elbow-pumping Gibson limps around the bases. Chances are that this one goes seven games, however. Two really, really good, tough-minded teams.
