DaSilva is interesting. Does he believe in Haase ? Will he think the team can be better without Williams and Davis? Is he interested in a grad degree which seems so. If so Stanford ? elsewhere ?
Who will enter the portal. O’Connell is my prime concern watching him
Play hard and try to gather his teammates on the floor last night and ignored by some
Going to be quite an off season
What about Haase? He has certainly failed
DaSilva will most certainly pursue some type of professional basketball career before pursuing his graduate school pursuits. What have you heard about Wills? Even before the big blow up this year, I heard that Wills was planning on moving on after this season.
I have no inside information, but if I had to guess, Wills would be at the top of my list for players who might leave. He already got "shadow suspended" for one game.
Would a couple of starters' transferring make Muir do something about the coaching situation?

Don't see how pairing transfers with players who declare for the draft is endemic of an issue with the team. As for the transfers, Pugh, Sheffield, and White left in search of more playing time. White ended up not even transferring, but going to play professionally in the NBL (New Zealand and Australia). Pugh averaged 10.1 mpg at Loyola Marymount this season and Sheffield was a key contributor at Elon after transferring from Stanford. Now Cormac Ryan is the only one who you can say was a key contributor that left. He transferred because his dad wanted him to play the point, but Haase refused because Terry was coming in (plus Ryan just can't play the point). Ryan didn't even play the point for Notre Dame this season so Haase is not the problem there. Haase has many issues but the transfers and NBA departures are not some of them.

I think White, Sheffield, Pugh, and Reid all grad transferred. Was there a graduate program for them? Not easy to get into most Stanford grad programs. Ryan's the only legit undergrad transfer in this group, right?

You're right and I left out Travis. But the point is they leave under Haase and Davis will even with another year possible.

For the millionth time, one does not need a graduate program to stay at Stanford. Students can take five years to graduate. Students can get a second major if they want to improve their academic credentials.
Obviously, there is value in having a masters degree, so the math may favor going elsewhere and getting a graduate degree versus staying at Stanford and taking classes without a degree. But the idea that some student/athletes have no choice because they can't get into a Stanford graduate program is a myth.

Actually if one graduates In March they need to prepare for the next year before today. Just a thought

That's neither here nor there. If they want to stay a fifth year, then they don't file their paperwork to graduate winter quarter (for which the deadline is tomorrow). And you don't need to graduate in the winter to apply for grad school. In fact, since at Stanford there needs to be an overlap of at least one quarter between the undergraduate and graduate school. So, if they don't get into graduate school, they simply don't file the paperwork to graduate, even if they have met criteria to do so.
This has been the standard for a long time. I would venture that historically only a small minority of players who stayed for fifth years at Stanford (especially football players) applied to grad school. Most filed to graduate after fall quarter of their fifth year. The only reason that graduate school became salient is that in order to grad transfer and not have to wait a year, players had to apply to grad school in the school they were transferring to. In addition, it meant that players contemplating a fifth year were weighing playing their fifth year elsewhere and getting a Masters degree versus staying at Stanford and not getting a graduate degree (unless they could clear the rigorous grad school admissions). For some people, whose future might not be in football, a Stanford bachelor's degree combined with a master's degree from somewhere else is a powerful combination.

Wazzu hired San Francisco's Kyle Smith. If that's doable, we can clearly poach someone from a G5/lower-level D1 school purely on pay increase alone. The question is who.
FWIW, I wouldn't bother cold-calling G5 coaches as the first 2 calls I'd make would be to alums:
- Jarron Collins is in year 7 as an assistant with the Warriors. This would be very similar in timeframe to Juwan Howard's return to Michigan as HC and I would LOVE to see it happen.
- Mark Madsen's Utah Valley tied for 1st in their (very bad) conference in year 2 as HC. (I'd wait another couple years to see how he does...and unfortunately my guess is we'll have to bc I suspect JH isn't going anywhere.)

His tenure as HC at U of Portland is not inspiring, and GT isn't much to write home about, but the current GT team he assistant coaches won its last 6 straight in conference. (Imagine that! Winning games in conference down the stretch!)

I'd guess, if he's turning pro, likely nothing he does in the last couple games (especially given his role/play lately) would help his stock. Might as well start prepping early like the football players now do.

If Williams is a lock for first-round money, why would he risk injury in the last games of his college career? This is the CMac Sun Bowl issue all over again. Do we fault players with promising pro futures for looking ahead? What if Bryce Love had been drafted highly after his Voldemort run instead of coming back to Stanford and suffering from injuries behind an injured OL?
