Note that in the Capital One Cup, both men's and women's lacrosse are worth 3x most other sports. I've never understood that.
ESPN televises lacrosse and was keen to increase viewership.

The NCAA creates enough of its own problems, but I wonder how much the problems are exacerbated by ESPN.

MT had this a few responses back. I updated Texas since they are now in the CWS and are also assured of 73 points like Stanford. We differ slightly due to how scoring in T&F will go for ties. Texas wins, Stanford is 2nd. N. Carolina in 3rd by a point or so over Florida. Michigan 5th. MT has Ohio St. over UCLA by about a point for 6th. I have it reversed.

They are claiming Texas' first ever Directors' Cup over at Orangebloods/Rivals, so at least it's on the radar of some Longhorns fans.

How would the scoring have changed if our women's volleyball team had qualified for the tournament, and maybe won a couple rounds?

Lots of what-ifs, Terry.
What if Stanford football had played a full season and had its starting left tackle, best cornerback and starting QB prepared and playing, and it ended up in a bowl game and ranked at season's end?
What if Zaire Williams, Daejon Davis and Bryce Wills had not missed so many games and Stanford men's BB had made the tournament?
What if, in summer 2020, officials had announced that the summer Olympics would be postponed until 2022, and athletes who had left Stanford to train played for Stanford instead?
What if the officials had ruled the knee down/forward lateral on November 20, 1982?
At this point, I tip my cap to Texas and congratulate them on winning the Directors' Cup.

This is kind of where I'm at, too. We fell short in too many sports this year, and had too many unlucky things happen, when margins were already slender due to new Cup rules. Meanwhile, Texas did great; they have an outstanding all-around sports program, and arguably could have done even better this year in several sports. I wish we could have kept this streak going, no doubt about it. But we got beat. Good work, Longhorns. We'll get you next year.

Stanford played in every NCAA women's volleyball tournament for 39 consecutive years, until this year. Women's volleyball is a mandatory sport in the Directors Cup scoring system. I'm just curious about how much impact the failure to qualify in volleyball had.

To actually answer your question ...
Stanford is 54.75 points behind Texas with only baseball remaining. Both are in the CWS (final 8).
To make up 55 points in volleyball, Stanford would have had to make it to the round of 16 (64 points).
Making it to the round of 32 would have been 50 points, which at least would have given Stanford a mathematical chance to pull it out in baseball.

What if?
They had called a penalty on the hit on Owusu in Eugene?
Luck had played in 2008?
Terry walked McCovey like Casey wanted?

Also, what if Stanford hadn't declined to participate in a bowl game? We would have gotten 45 points had we won (presuming we stayed unranked), and 25 points had we lost the bowl game.
45 points would have made it interesting.
Never mind, football is not a mandatory counting sport. So the answer is it would not have made a difference.

Football is not a required counter, so would have displaced another sport at best. It might have helped if we had also become ranked, but wouldn't have got Stanford all that far by itself.

If we had to lose the streak someday, hard to think of a better year than this year. It's riddled with asterisks anyway. And probably shows what sports I care about, but I'll take Tara getting that 30-year albatross off from around her neck, even if it came with losing our streak (especially since I care much more about the national championships streak).

It seems fitting that we lose our title as best overall sports program the year that we announced we were dropping a bunch of sports citing insincere reasons.

Love her or hate her on a substantive basis -- and this post is intended to be completely and entirely neutral on that point -- I think a decent case can be made that Dr. Sara Cody deserves serious consideration as Texas' MVP this year...

I understand it's probably hard to recruit well enough to score decently in T&F, but where is Stanford in terms of historic T&F trends? Are we under or overperforming our usual T&F rankings? (Cause it seems like that's where Texas really put the hurt on us, but WVB didn't help, and neither did tennis...)
