RE: U$C game thread - TrumpCard - 09-11-2021

After laying eggs at Northwestern and K-State in the opening week, can Stanford now end the practice of scheduling an unnecessary game against a power 5 conference team, especially on the road?

Yup. McCaffrey opened the 2015 Rose Bowl with a touchdown on basically the same play.

I think we need to talk to Oregon and find out what they did.  You’d think the school that had the legendary William Dement would figure it out.  Sadly, I think he passed away last year.

Not too worried about it, but is McKee technically draft eligible in the spring because he’ll be (more than) 3 years out of high school?

RE: U$C game thread - needle - 09-11-2021

1.) This is fun to watch.

2.) All the credit in the world to McKee. He's played a practically flawless first half. The absolute strength of this team is its receiving corps, and under no circumstances do I want to see anything like three running plays in a row. I fully expect McKee to make a mistake as USC is getting oh-so-close-but-so-far to him on a lot of plays, but I want to see the coaching staff continue to ride McKee for the next 30 minutes. He's earned it.

3.) Great idea to feature the RBs in the passing game. Clearly nothing that SC was expecting.

4.) The defense is continually forcing SC to convert on third downs. My biggest fear was that it would be gashed for big plays after watching the highlights from last week, but *so far* that hasn't happened. I think the arrow is way up on this secondary. Wyrick is showing real flashes, and Kyu Blu is the real deal.

5.) Stanford has gotten the benefit of some 50-50 calls but I hate how the Pac refs seem to insert themselves into every game. I hope few flags are thrown in the second half.

6.) Overall, Stanford's offense if winning against SC's defense, and SC's offense is winning against Stanford's defense. But the scoreboard shows how a game often comes down to just a few plays (e.g. an 87-yd touchdown run), and Stanford is making them so far tonight.

I think we'll be okay...

I sure wish McKee could have played the entire game against KState.  Even if we didn't get a win, he would have had those extra snaps under his belt.  He really looks like the real deal tonight.  Better than Slovis, to whom the announcers were calling a Voldemort candidate before the game began.

Let's hope we don't collapse in the 2nd half.  Even if we do, we now know that we can play good football.

SC gets the ball to start the second half.  A stop would be h*ge.

RE: U$C game thread - PVTree - 09-11-2021

We need to hold them to no score on their first drive in the second half.

RE: U$C game thread - martyup - 09-11-2021

I love how the announcers throw cold water on Stanford's first half, saying that if you throw out the explosive plays Stanford is in trouble.  Isn't that pretty much always the case in football.  What tools.

RE: U$C game thread - Mick - 09-11-2021

Is it just me, or is our tackling sub par?

BTW, the blitz at the end of the first half was working GREAT. So now, we're seeing three man rush, and the 'SC QB is picking us apart.

As is the pass rush.

RE: U$C game thread - BostonCard - 09-11-2021

Williams(?) just bounced off his guy.

We need to get to Slovis.  He’s had way too much time.

RE: U$C game thread - JeebsOak - 09-11-2021

Make the tackle please.

RE: U$C game thread - BostonCard - 09-11-2021

Miezan has to make that tackle.

RE: U$C game thread - martyup - 09-11-2021

Holding them to 3 on that drive is a victory.  I have a feeling that we will need a turnover to win this game.  That is unless McKee can keep it rolling.  LET'S GO CARD!!

Trends are better but I wouldn't serve up those plates of crow until the game is over

very happy to be dead wrong so far!!

RE: U$C game thread - BostonCard - 09-11-2021

Big stop there.  But man, 45 was late.  That’s two really bad plays by Miezen.

Man, great call to Tremayne, who got behind the D, but just couldn’t come up with it.

RE: U$C game thread - martyup - 09-11-2021

That tackle on the punt was made by the long haired SC player that was blocking our guy in the back.  NO CALL!
