No on Bellinger. Hell no on Jansen. (Unless they trade Doval and a prospect for Reyonlds) Be great to sign Rodon. But I don’t see it happening. Just don’t want Blueheads to get him.

Doval could be part of a trade. Giants have several plus arms in minors - Waites, Rodriguez to name a couple that could develop into closers over time. If there thinking is sign Jansen trade Doval as part of a package for Reynolds ( three way deal - Pittsburgh would trade Doval to a contender looking for a closer) or to another team for an everyday player, that might work. Jansen could bridge the gap until the young arms are ready.

Yaz signed for $6.1 mms.

Giants tendered contracts include Webb, Junis, Brebbia, Rogers, Slater, Wade, JD Davis and Estrada. They'll be eligible for arbitration on 1/13/23.

Giants not tendered contracts and DFA'd (or dropped from 40 man roster, leaving it at 37) include: Delaplane, Garcia, Strotman, Nunez, Valoria, Vosler, Welker, Valoria, Llovera, Young and Walton.

Vosler (.812 OPS) surprises me a little bit, though I know they're overloaded with third basemen.

Obviously, I’m in the minority here but I would like to see SF sign Jansen. After last season’s performance, I think the bullpen could use some veteran leadership.

I don’t see it as an either/or (Doval or Jansen as the closer). I see it as creating a cohesive group in which the players can function in multiple roles.

I think part of the equation is where one sees the Giants. The company line is they were “only 6 games” out of spot 6. Technically true. But misleading. They had a run in Sept, fueled in large part by going 6-0 against the hapless Rockies. IIRC in late Aug early Sept they were 10 back of 6 and about even with the D-Backs.

I think they need a lot of help. Not just a few pieces of window dressing. I can see winter of ‘22 looking a lot like winter of ‘21. I’ll believe they can sign a top FA non pitcher when I see it. Until then, I’m from Missouri….

I understand your skepticism. However, as you were correct with your preseason win total forecast, I think I am going to be right by saying, ownership knows they must (and will) sign a “name”. Otherwise, if you think attendance was off last year…….

Feel free to remind if I am wrong. It certainly wouldn’t be the first time.

Aristedes Aquino might be an excellent, inexpensive outfielder, and similar to Cody Bellinger in terms of early success and dismal batting failure over the past few years.
The SF Giants should target a former Cincinnati Reds outfielder (aroundthefoghorn.com)

When you need to have a 13 member pitching staff, there isn’t much room for late inning defensive specialist. Especially given Kapler’s propensity for “line shifts”.
