We win 75-62.  Merry Christmas.

RE: MBB Thread - SkiBum80 - 12-22-2022

Good win
Loyola not a bad team
Assists/TO’s = 1.0 which is great by our usual standards
Keefe especially looked good
Raynaud needs some MMA training maybe
O’Connell with some clutch free throws down the stretch
Spencer Jones ice cold but others picked up the slack
Ingram all around good game

RE: MBB Thread - CompSci87 - 12-22-2022

Nice game, nice win.

RE: MBB Thread - SkiBum80 - 12-22-2022

Is Coach Haase really smart, or like a blindfolded player in pin the tail on the donkey?
I can’t tell yet
He’s working all these guys into the game
Which on the one hand gets them early season experience that might help a lot later
On the other hand we still have a losing record and I’m not sure he’s found yet, after 12 games, the main lineup that will be most together and most competitive

The MBB thread seems like a good as place as any to put this. Miss these guys.

Fact check… apparently true.

I've come to the conclusion Haase isn't interested in finding and going with a "main lineup." He does this strange, endless subbing all season long. I find it maddening. I remember thinking Dawkins was past his expiry date on the Farm, but Haase takes the prize on this score.

Saint Mary's, USF, and Santa Clara all have better MBB teams than Cal and Stanford. Discuss.

RE: MBB Thread - Phogge - 12-23-2022

USF has great coaching. Trouble is they get poached right away. While you brought it up all have a great basketball history.

I grew up a short bus ride from Kezar Pavilion where Russ and KC played most of their games.

Santa Clara made a Final Four with Kenny Sears and later with the Ogden’s and Awetry ranked in the top three for a few years.

Randy Bennett has built a perennial powerhouse in Moraga.

And Pete Newell was a legend at Cal.

Yeah, I can remember growing up in Seattle and going to Washington basketball games in the late 50's. We would think we had a great team and Newell would come up with his Kal teams and burst our bubble. A little frustrating.

Here we go again.

RE: MBB Thread (5-7, 0-2) - CompSci87 - 12-29-2022

Up 37-33 at half. Spencer Jones with 17, looking like our best player.

I’m here too, CS87.

This is a very winnable game for Stanford if we can cut down on the defensive lapses!

RE: MBB Thread (5-7, 0-2) - BostonCard - 12-29-2022

How in the hell does Harrison Ingram have a grand total of 1 point?  My god, what has Haase done?

Haase just can't coach offense.  Two possessions off of time outs in the final minute, and the best we can manage is a couple of very tough shots with defenders in the face of our guys.  Terrible coaching.

Facepalm emoji.  That’s about all I can say about whatever the hell that was.

Here we go again, indeed.

Ingram was passive and useless out there. Can't blame that all on Haase, though I'm sure he deserves plenty of blame for other things.

RE: MBB Thread (5-7, 0-2) - Phogge - 12-29-2022

What NBA team is stupid enough to draft Ingraham?

Stanford needs shooters.

RE: MBB Thread (5-8, 0-3) - PVTree - 12-30-2022

I'm angry that we can't even beat a middling team like the buffaloes at home. They lost a lot and should end up in the bottom half of the conference.

We still seem to lack everything...a strong point guard, shooters, rebounders, defenders, go-to player at crunch time, offensive schemes, 85%+ FT shooter, etc.

I'm hoping that this is a backward year where we go from discombobulated to a well-oiled machine comer March. Of course, we need to win enough games in the next 2 months to even be on the bubble.

It is possible that Ingram is the most overrated five star player since Ziairw Williams, and that he is simply not that good.  But given that it seems this is a systemic problem with the team, I think he is playing for a coach who consistently gets less done with the talent he has, fails to motivate his players, and is leading a team that is going through the motions.  We wouldn’t know unless he transfers or we get a new coach, but I would bet dollars to donuts that Ingram would be less passive and useless playing in a different setting.
