Random thoughts…
Jump’s contribution to our games seems to me to be to burn the defense if it ignores her (she is still hitting at a high percentage), create an offensive rhythm by running her routes on the offensive end of the court, taking her defender as far out of the key as possible to open up the key, and playing tenacious defense (I know that some of our posters don’t agree, but watch her, she never stops running!). I am concerned by what seems to be her greatest strength — commitment to excellence by being the first in and out of the gym — all that repetitive movement in her shoulder. In the off season, she didn’t rest. Instead she participated on England’s 3x international team. I know just how much my own physiology has pushed back against repeated use of the computer. At what point does the shoulder start to “talk back”?
Haley… again to draw from personal experiences, after a couple of hours of hard physical work, I’m not always as alert or sharp. After a game, especially a close one, I am willing to cut any player some slack for being a bit fazed out!
Betts… what a great time for her to be gaining confidence and contributing to the team! She should be a real asset going into the tournament!

I kept following asleep last night as I posted, so stopped.
Would add that our FT shooting also was a major factor in winning. Brink of course but also others. As someone who harps on making FTs, I was pleasantly surprised at how great we did. It gave us a good amount of points and made Ucla pay for its aggressive fouling. Just as importantly, it kept our momentum going when we were ahead, and it also prevented Ucla from building a lead when they mounted their 3rd Q surge. When they went ahead of us in the 3rd and 4th by 1-4 points, we would make FTs to keep close even when we were in a FG drought.
Interesting points made by Baez and Ultimate about Jump's shoulder. Perhaps I and others are wrong, and it's more physical than mental.

Jump only took 2 three point shots last night because she was closely guarded. Both of those shots were not ideal because she was moving laterally to get enough room to shoot. Missing two shots from beyond the arc is not a slump. She is fine. If any team leaves her open, she will make them pay.

since our opponents are packing the post with 3 defenders, how about a double high screen for hannah? if one screener is a post player she can roll to the basket. hannah can shoot the 3 or pass to the post.

She had a good game against Colorado at home, and a good weekend at the Arizona schools. Everyone else seems to have been able to defend her pretty well. We have been trying new wrinkles to get her open on screens, but her catch-and-shoot accuracy is much better than when she moves laterally around a screen. I do think the coaches need to be creative about giving her more chances.
Many of the shots that Jump used to get and make were in transition. As our rebounding has declined some, so too have our transition opportunities. Tara was clear in the presser that our rebounding needs to improve and if she succeeds in bringing that about, Jump will get more transition opportunities.

That’s actually not the first time Bessoir has stuck her nose into a post players’ elbow and initiated a review. She is either a very unlucky young lady or it’s apart of UCLA’s flopping strategy and exaggerating contact. Cori had Charisma play on a torn meniscus for a WNIT bid last year and I am sure she instructed Bessoir to get hit in the face for a win. Sometimes it works (PAC-12 tourney 2021) and sometimes it doesn’t. One of the many reasons why I am so pro-NIL. College coaches sacrifice players all the time and don’t lose any sleep.

I think the music contributed but it did make me emotional watching. Every one of our seniors has made a major impact at some point in their careers. I too hope they get a perfect ending. They are incredible people and it’s been an absolute joy watching them grow as people and players in our program. Like Tara said at the ceremony, let’s keep it rolling.

Well said, totally agree. It is a rare class where everyone is a major contributor at some point and they all stick together. I hope they go out champs again, for them much more than us fans.

Thanks for sharing that - had to take family home before they did the senior night portion, so really glad to see that video. Totally agree - a stellar class on so many levels, and as hard as it was to imagine replacing the Hulls + Wilson, losing the Funky Four feels even more of a gaping roster loss...
Here's to 11 more victories for them before the season's over! ;)
