Couple somewhat contrarian thoughts though:
1) The growth of the NBA didn't happen because the commissioner thought "Oh, this Magic, Larry, and Michael thing is cool - we should capitalize on it". It happened because Magic and Larry and Michael were so much fun to watch. There were many great players that came before them (Russell, Wilt, Kareem, Oscar, West, etc. etc.). But those old timers weren't as fun to watch (although Maravich sure was!), the rivalries weren't as intense, the game was slower, and they didn't have personalties. David Stern did some very smart things, but really the league blew up because of those dudes and how they played the game.
2) I don't know if the "Clark effect" is really going to last. Caitlin is great and all, but if you've watched the first 2 preseason games you can tell that she's not going to dominate in her first season or two. I think she's going to head down the same path that Kesley and Sabrina did. She'll struggle in the beginning, then find her footing, then a few years out she'll be one of the top players in the league. But she won't do what Magic and Larry and Michael did, where they were dominant right out of college. Sooo...I think the WNBA and the press should stop trying to "fabricate a Magic/Larry/Michael moment" and put it all on Caitlin. She isn't quick enough as a guard to immediately dominate in the pros and she doesn't have the personality. I think there could be this dull thud in about a month because people are going to realize she's like the 15th best player in a very talented league. Magic and Larry and Michael were the best players in the league.
3) Leagues need particular types of superstars in order to build rabid fanbases. It's some weird combination of talent, style, and personality. Tiger had it. Scottie Scheffler is an absolute stud, he seems like a terrific person, I root for him...but not like I rooted for Tiger. I was glued to the set when Tiger played. Why were the McEnroe, Borg, Connors years the golden age of tennis? What did they have that Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic don't? The tennis today is absolutely incredible, but not many people watch. Personality and style are key. They keep strutting Caitlin around in Prada. I don't know - looks forced on her. She needs her own style. Like how Tiger had his Sunday red and black.

i loved watching dijonai. really unfortunate that haley jones came in at the same position. i presume dijonai inferred correctly that she would get much more playing time at baylor. dijonai almost beat uconn in the 2021 round of 8. she was the baylor leading scorer with 22 and should have gotten 2 free throws when she was clearly fouled by 2 uconn players at the last second with baylor down by 1

She transferred (with some unknown but fairly obvious conflict with Tara and/or Stanford) and she identifies her college as Baylor. If she identifies as a Baylor alum, I don't see any reason that we should claim her as our own. I think it is extremely disingenuous of her when she occasionally claims that she is being dissed when she identifies as a Baylor alum not a Stanford alum. She made her choice. I don't think we need to look any deeper than that for Stanford moving on.

unknown other than tara starting haley above her and taking away her minutes when she was finally healthy? like lauren betts' reason for transfering was unknown?

A lot of falsehoods about Carrington floating around here.
First, she does identify as Stanford - she lists it before Baylor in her Insta, for example.
Second, she only grad transferred because Tara gave the final remaining scholly to Anna Wilson. Not saying whether that was right or wrong, but what else was Carrington supposed to do at that point other than grad transfer?
Third, she's openly complained in the past that Stanford WBB coms don't shout out her accomplishments in the W, so she clearly would *like* to maintain an affiliation with Stanford.
I honestly feel pretty bad for her because she was such a clutch player during one of our weakest stretches since the Nicole Powell era and yet I feel like she's been erased from the history books through essentially no fault of her own.

Agree, 2006. She played out of position, overcame a bad injury and always gave great effort. Happy for her that she's flourishing in the pros.

weds atlanta vs sparks, haley is playing point guard in the video. 14 points and hits two 3's. cam has 11 points.
indeed, wnba must be different than college. for the sparks, layshia clarendon has all the pt guard pts and most of the playing time. together, aari macdonald and zia cooke have 16 min and 1 point.
