Said it worked it didn’t. I’ll be patient

We are not in ESPN's Top-25 rankings:

https://www.espn.com/womens-college-basketball/story/_/id/39882544/womens-college-basketball-way-too-early-top-25-2024-25-poll

Not surprised with us being left out.

I think it will be a critical year for Kate to show that we can still be a top tier program post-Tara and hopefully we can get the elite recruits back in. We badly need a Brink/Haley-level, top-5 recruiting win.

Stanford still has TWO (2) borderline Top 10 recruits in senior DEMETRE (ESPN #11 overall in 2021) and
sophomore OGDEN (ESPN #10 overall in 2023) but both have yet to show that they can be a Go-To player.

Next season, they will have another borderline Top 10 recruit in PG Hailey SWAIN  (ESPN #9 overall)
to go along with junior-by-then OGDEN.

I just hope Kate can unleash their full potential by "allowing them to play" loose and not be afraid
to make mistakes.

Adding the schedule to your phones now works. I just did it

Cameron Brink got engaged today.  Boyfriend proposed to her in front of Eiffel Tower in Paris.  She was there for fashion show week.

RE: Stanford Women's Basketball 2024-2025 - bl82 - 10-01-2024

I got tired of debating with myself about who will be in the starting lineup for the coming season, so I asked for some AI help at guessing for "who the starters will be on Stanford's 2024-2025 women's basketball team". Some answers were clearly much better than others:

***Perplexity:
Lepolo
Bosgana
Demetre
Agara
Umeh

***ChatGPT app (4.0)
Lepolo
Clardy
Bosgana
Agara
Umeh

***ChatGPT web page (4.0)
Lepolo
Harriel
Bosgana
Iriafen (?)
Brink (??)

***Gemini:
Lacie Hull (!?!)
Fran Belibi (!!!)
Haley Jones (???) "...may not start every game due to her versatility...."

+two "potential starters":
Kiki Iriafen (???) "A talented freshman..."
Agnes Imbayi (WTF???) "Another incoming freshman..."

…and apparently we will also be bringing Lauren Van Kleunen off the bench!

As I see it, you have to get your best talent on the floor, but with enough positional variety and flexibility to be solid across all aspects of the game, so I'm sticking with:
Lepolo
Heal
Bosgana
Demetre
Stevenson

Ideally, I'd find room for Agara, Ogden and perhaps Clardy in this lineup and if we're matching up against some big, strong and athletic post players, I'd be tempted to start Umeh.

I think your very first lineup is the one. With Heal and Peterson plsying a lot.
Reception in 4 weeks

RE: Stanford Women's Basketball 2024-2025 - TheFarm07 - 10-15-2024

The AP poll came out today and we are not ranked in the pre-season poll for the first time since 1999

From ESPN article:
"Looking for Iowa or Stanford? Neither was in the preseason Top 25. With Caitlin Clark and Lisa Bluder no longer with the Hawkeyes, and Tara VanDerveer and Cameron Brink gone from the Cardinal, those programs have just lost too much."

Hope Coach P and team quickly answer that comment.

RE: Stanford Women's Basketball 2024-2025 - M T - 10-15-2024

That's why they play the games.

RE: Stanford Women's Basketball 2024-2025 - Spiny_Norman - 10-15-2024

There are 6 ACC teams in the pre-season top 25.

Notre Dame
NC State
Duke
North Carolina
Louisville
Florida State

So Stanford at this point in time looks like the 7th best team in the conference. Seems about right for now. But as M T said, that's why they play the games.

Stanford's non-conference schedule includes 3 pre-season top 25 teams:
7. LSU
14. Ohio State
25. Indiana

BRINK moving on to the WNBA was expected. I think Stanford's biggest loss was IRIAFEN
not coming back for her senior year.

Had she not transferred, I bet Stanford will still be pre-season Top 25, even pre-season Top 15.
Her lofty 19.5 ppg and 11.0 rpg are just too much to compensate for.

UCLA at AP pre-season # 5.

Hmmm, their current line-up is really
THE Who's Who from the HS Class of 2022:

# 1 BETTS,
#2 RICE,
#3 BARKER,
#6 GARDNER (who I feel is better than both #4 PATTERSON and #5 BRADY)

then you also have:

#19 JAQUEZ and
#22 Londynn JONES

That's 6 McD AAs just from one Class.

Then you add Serbian Olympian DUGALIC and
Class of 2024 McD AAs DUDLEY and ZOCKA-NGUEMEN

(and not even including WSU legend Charlisse LEDGER-WALKER
because she might redshirt as a Grad student this season
due to injury)

RE: Stanford Women's Basketball 2024-2025 - BobK - 10-15-2024

Iriafen graduated in three years. A brobdingnagian loss for sure

RE: Stanford Women's Basketball 2024-2025 - Card10Fan - 10-15-2024

If Iriafen had returned for another season, we’d be preseason ranked as a top 15 team. I think there’s still a good chance we are a ranked team throughout the upcoming season.

Regarding UCLA, the most talented roster they’ve had ever this year. Although they’ve had plenty of talent over the years. Close has been to 1 Elite 8 and no Final 4 in 13 seasons. Also in 13 years, Close has never won a single regular season conference championship or tournament. Coaching matters. I wouldn’t lock them in as a Final 4 team (based on history alone) although I expect they will have a very good year.

RE: Stanford Women's Basketball 2024-2025 - TheFarm07 - 10-15-2024

I was concerned that we might not even make the tournament this year after losing our two best players and the way we collapsed in the second half of our loss to NC State. With the transfer additions, I believe we have a better chance of making the NCAAs, but for the first time since I've been a fan, I feel like our tournament berth is not a guarantee.

Athletic mobile guards are still an Achilles' heel for us and at least with Brink and Iriafen, we can counter with one of the best frontcourts in college wbb. We no longer have that luxury.

I would feel a whole lot better if Ogden can make a Kiki-like jump in her skill level and our transfers/freshmen can make an immediate impact. Right now, there is no clear cut successor to take over as the top go-to scorer in our lineup.

Kate Paye will have done an amazing job in her first year if we are better than a #8 seed in the NCAA tournament and gets us to the Sweet 16, IMHO.

RE: Stanford Women's Basketball 2024-2025 - bl82 - 10-16-2024

Season opens with an exhibition match two weeks from today and yet with almost half the roster filled with new faces via the portal or frosh recruits, we have almost no information about who is looking good in practice other than Talana and Brooke predicting that Nunu is most likely to be our breakout player this season. I think our trajectory is most dependent upon the contributions of newcomers Tess and Mary Ashley, but I’d love to know how the frosh are developing.

RE: Stanford Women's Basketball 2024-2025 - Spiny_Norman - 10-16-2024

Preseason ACC all conference team includes 8 guards, 1 forward and 1 guard/forward.

3 from Notre Dame, 2 from Florida State and 2 from NC State.

One voter picked Stanford as #1 in the ACC...WOW! That's pretty delusional!
