Stanford begins defense of its 2024 NCAA Women's Golf national championship on Friday at La Costa, CA. While the course is the same as last year, Stanford's lineup is not. Sadie Englemann and Rachel Heck are gone from that team. Kelly Xu, Megha Ganne and Paula Martin Sampedro return. They are joined by 2 of the top 3 frosh in the country, Meja Ortengren and Andrea Revuelta. Nora Sundberg is the alternate if needed.
The tournament proceeds in 2 different formats. Teams first play 72 holes of stroke play from Friday to Monday. The best 4 individual scores each day are added to get the team score. The low 8 teams at that point advance to single elimination match play. Last year Stanford became the first team to finish first in stroke play and then win it all as the top seed in match play.
There will plenty of strong competition along the way. But for the next 72 holes, Stanford is playing against itself and the golf course.

Stroke play starts Friday. Stanford won in 2024 and is the defending champion in 2025.

One over par and tied for 7th after hole 14 (so four holes in since we started at 11). There's a lot of golf left in the day! Vanderbilt is in the clubhouse at -6 so that's what we're shooting for to be in first place at the moment.

I'm not sure what you saw but it appears they started on hole 10. On hole 13 (their 3rd), the team had one par, two bogeys, and two double bogeys. The top 4 Stanford scores through hole 14 would have totaled +3 (other holes had 2 birdies and 1 bogey)..
Looks like the early rounds had it easier. Looks like the wind picked up around 11. Kinda gusty now.

I see a post on X from a half hour before your post that says they made the turn, and they are +4 (E, E, +1, +3, +5)
the "thru" seems to be stuck but if you click through you can see the score through 5-6

The half full glass analysis right now seems to be that we’re in decent shape notwithstanding two of our top golfers not exactly burning it up. Hopefully, the frosh jitters will all be vanquished today, and things will return to normal tomorrow.

The lowest scores today have been posted by teams that played in the morning. Maybe the wind is down and the greens are a little softer in the morning. Stanford will play in the morning tomorrow.
While Stanford's players are all fighting the course a bit (none under par), they are doing better than their playing companions #2 and #3 Arkansas and South Carolina, both of which are at +9.
#4 Florida State (ACC champ) is at +7 as is #7 Wake Forest (which knocked out Stanford in the ACC tournament).
The dearth of birdies by Stanford leads me to think that they are struggling with the greens. Maybe with firm greens, some wind and tight pin placements, it's tough to get the ball close to have good looks at birdie.

Right now, there are 29 players under par. None from Stanford. Not what anyone expected. Need a team effort tomorrow but it would help if someone went low.

We are now even for the tournament, tied for third, as we make the turn in round two. Depth is winning again, as everyone is under par today, except for Revuelta, who has just clawed her way back to even.
