I found it curious that his name was never mentioned in tonight's game. They showed Kingsbury, but no Quarterback coach, Tavita Pritchard, coaching his last game in Washington before taking over as Stanford's new coach.
I hear that often when a coach is leaving to take on a head coaching position, but had a feeling that Tavita wasn't a big enough name to be worthy of mention. Unfortunately, my feeling came true despite hoping to be surprised and thinking that Stanford was a big enough name to warrant mention.

Well NBC is the domer channel with some big ten as a side dish. The broadcast team both had worked domer games some years back. If would have been different broadcast if Tavita was going to South Bend.

Man, I hope that TP can recruit, both players and coaches. Next year’s schedule will be a challenge.
In 2026, Stanford (2025 College RPI #102) is opening against Hawaii (#59) on August 29 next year, SJSU (#140) on 11/28/26, Notre Dame (#10) TBD.
Four ACC home games against Miami (#12), SMU (#21), Ga Tech (#23), NC State (#52). Four ACC away games, Louisville (#36), Wake Forest (#44), Duke (#49), California (#67).
I look forward to hearing Tavita's incredible assistant coach staff announcements.

I've decided that Tavita is a boring choice, but will prove to be a great choice. Admittedly, much of this is faith in Luck. Luck knows Tavita well on a personal level, and Luck knows successful coaches and what it takes to be successful. Luck choosing Tavita over all the other candidates suggests that Luck knows that Tavita has all the qualities needed to be a successful Stanford head coach other than the track record. So while Tavita's not a flashy choice, I'm taking the attitude that Luck found us a diamond-in-the-rough that we're going to be happy with.

Also, the dinosaur mascot musta been an insanely talented gymnast. Air flairs on the floor are ridiculously hard--doing them in a mascot uniform is another level entirely.

i think the reality is none of us know how good luck is at identifying coaching talent since he hasnt done it before and this is his first rodeo as GM. It’s all an experiment

Totally agree. AL undoubtedly is a Stanford Football icon. He is also a very bright guy. He appears to be somewhat charismatic with current Stanford players. Can he manage a college football team? Can he hire good coaches? We don't know, and whatever happens with Tavita it will be an N of 1. The result will be over-interpreted. Hopefully Luck will be in line for lots of credit, merited or not :-). Another way to look at it is that at times it is better to be lucky than good.

what are the barometers of success here? i would like to see a team over 500 by year 3 and an offense that is top 60. anything less means this was likely a bad hire.

Quote:Stanford hires Tavita Pritchard: Grade C
(Hired Nov. 28)
Stanford got someone who most certainly knows Stanford. Pritchard was in Palo Alto from 2006 to 2022, first as a quarterback and then as an assistant. Pritchard also did a good job working with Jayden Daniels as the Washington Commanders’ quarterbacks coach. Stanford is a uniquely difficult job, so knowledge of the landscape is important, but Pritchard has been out of college football for the last three years as it has undergone big changes, and Stanford has been hurt as much as any school by those changes. Does he know how to navigate this?
Pritchard likely wasn’t going to become a head coach anywhere other than at Stanford right now. That usually doesn’t bode well. But with Andrew Luck running the show, a new $50 million donation into the football program and now Pritchard taking over, Stanford is doubling down on itself.

Some of the (few) positive posts here sound like the same posts made about Taylor. Starting to doubt Luck has the management experience needed to return y'all to glory. Seems like he just hired his buddy. This might be the worst hire of the coaching carousel so far. Sorry
I just noticed that calfan finished dead last in the predictions contest for Big Game. Based on that and calfan's comments above, I'm feeling pretty optimistic about Tavita Pritchard as Stanford football's head coach.

Watching the Tavita Press Conference
To Luck how many candidates did you talk to. About 30
To Luck was it important to have a Stanford person. No but turned out to be a plus
Tavita is impressive

Will watch the presser later, but of course I wish Tavita well. I'll be in Stanford Stadium when the Jackets roll into town and will think about season tickets for the first time since my son made varsity at SI (shoutout to the CCS D2 champions) and I simply could rarely use the tickets. I remember a game at Kezar while Stanford shocked Oregon down on the Farm at the same time in 2009. Stanford got so good that I worried about a reverse jinx when he went off to Annapolis to play more football, but that concern has obviously evaporated.
I do hope he lost the old playbook/novel and plans to get lots of help on staff.
Watch him bring Shaw back as OC and this board explode. Vitashaw!
Touchdown USC! Stanford! Touchdown Stanford! (We'll always have Paris.)

I think this is a mistake. Not so much because I think he is incapable of it, but because I would like to see him bring in a strong offensive coordinator whose job would be to call plays under most circumstances. I’d like to see Pritchard focused on the bigger picture: hiring the right people, recruiting and developing the right players, getting everyone motivated and working as a team. Sure, call the plays in a high leverage situation, but for your random second and seven at the 42 yard line early in the third quarter… that’s why you hopefully have an offensive coordinator that you trust.
