RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - johnbar - 10-19-2025

Jackson/Perez took care of Brazil, 21-15, 21-8.  I watched some of the first set, when the score was close, and both teams were making unforced errors.  Came back later to find the USA had won the first set and were up 16-8 in the second.  And Brazil never got another point.

All USA final at 5:30pm local (4:30pm PDT), Jackson/Perez vs. Henson/Wood (from USC).

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - johnbar - 10-19-2025

Jackson/Perez are U21 World Champions!

They beat the USC/American team of Henson and Wood 25-23, 21-15.

Obviously the first set was very close; Perez finished it with a stuff block.
The second set was close for a while (tied 11-11), but Jackson & Perez then pulled away.

I wore my Avery Jackson t-shirt today, so I think that was the difference maker.

The weather in and around Stanford was absolutely perfect all weekend. Recruits would have seen the University in the best light.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - johnbar - 10-28-2025

A fan who appears knowledgeable reported on Stanford's recent fall scrimmages in San Luis Obispo (not a peep out of Stanford about these events).

Stanford's line up:
(1) Jackson/Rockwell
(2) Sorra/Belardi
(3) Bell/Fisher
(4) Stowell/Tusher
(5) Hoffman/Vincent
(Ashley Vincent is the beach player who appears in the recent Stanford promo commercial which airs during sports events.)

He also thinks Stanford is the #1 team in the country this year, and Avery Jackson is the top player in NCAA beach VB.
I hope he is right!

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - johnbar - 11-03-2025

AVCA is sponsoring a Fall pairs championship this weekend (Nov. 7-9) in Huntsville, AL.
Stanford is sending Jackson/Rockwell and Belardi/Bell.

I don't know if there will be any streaming.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - paloalto - 11-04-2025

If they wanted a pretty much guarantee of good weather in November they should have located the tournament in SoCal.

Webpage says watch live:TBD.  So maybe they will find some source.  For the good of the sport it should be free.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - johnbar - 11-05-2025

Select matches streamed on Saturday and Sunday, on ESPN+ and YouTube:

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - johnbar - 11-06-2025

The (single-elimination) bracket is up:

https://volleyballlife.com/event/33246/division/122762/round/247021/brackets

Stanford A team (Jackson/Rockwell) plays match 32 at 10:30 EST (8:30 PST) and Stanford B team (Belardi/Bell) plays match 17 at 11:45.
So both Stanford teams in the same half of the bracket, but would not meet until the semifinal.

No video until Saturday (round of 16, quarters and semis).  Finals (and 3rd place match) on Sunday on ESPN+.\

ETA:  The Stanford teams are the #2 and #3 seeds in the 64 team field.  Cal Poly's Connor/Inskeep is #1.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - johnbar - 11-07-2025

Stanford A won 2-0 and 2-0 to advance to the round of 16 tomorrow morning, 9:15 local time, on court 1 (youtube).  Taking on UCLA B.

Stanford B did almost as well, though dropped one set to Tulane B in their second match.  They will be on court 4 at 9:15 also, vs. LMU B.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - johnbar - 11-08-2025

Stanford B (Belardi/Bell) were upset by LMU B, 2-0, finish 9th. (They actually play some more matches for final classification.)

Jackson & Rockwell (Stanford A) got by UCLA B 2-1 (21-18, 16-21, 15-12).  Their quarterfinal is at 2:15 local (12:15 PST) this afternoon, vs. TCU. It's on Court 1 and should be on ESPN+.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - johnbar - 11-08-2025

TCU upset Jackson/Rockwell 2-1.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - johnbar - 11-16-2025

Thalia Lindahl, (2027 recruit) won the CBVA Huntington Beach Open, playing with Sandie Souza, a UCLA recruit.
Only nine pairs in the tournament, but still a nice result.

ETA:  Lindahl also won the CBVA Santa Monica Open a few weeks ago (10/26), playing with Cora Loomer (entering UCLA 2026). That event had 15 pairs entered.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - johnbar - 11-25-2025

Thalia Lindahl won another CBVA Open, in Laguna Beach (field of 15 teams).  Seeded 14th.
I guess the prize money is paid in cash:

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - johnbar - 12-19-2025

Bumping this thread, waiting till February for the schedule to drop.

Stanford alumna Sunny Villapando (who did her covid 5th year at USC) has started playing beach VB for the Philippines.  Her team has had limited success so far in some FIVB events.  But they did win the Gold Medal at the South East Asian Games in Thailand:

Not sure about the format, but it seems there are two pairs per country, and it's their combined results that count.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - johnbar - 12-20-2025

Texas has released their schedule, and Stanford is on it three times:
First weekend in Hawaii, as usual (Feb. 21).
MPSF "Mid-Season Rumble" in LA (Mar. 7).
Texas Invitational in Austin (Mar. 27).

MPSF championship will be in Huntington Beach, April 22-24.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - paloalto - 12-21-2025

Texas will be very good this year.  Stanford will be better.  I will enjoy Stanford beating Texas three times this year.   I heard Stanford lost indoor wvb recruit Ireland Real to a big money offer from Texas.

I don't see how schools like Texas, SMU, Wisconsin, Nebraska, etc pull off these big deals.  I thought you now had to deal with a real business for NIL deals, not a school's collective.  No legitimate business is going to pay WVB players several hundred thousand dollars per year for advertising.  That money has to be coming from donors in some shape or form.

RE: Stanford Beach Volleyball - BostonCard - 12-21-2025

I think the clearinghouse has been rendered toothless.  Yes, NIL deals are supposed to be for real work and reflect FMV.  In practice, as schools are basically starting to ignore the college sports commission.
