Watching Pagan play T Ball with the Dodger hitters convinced me that the Padre skipper is gone about 1 minute after the last out Sunday. The skip has given up and just didn’t GAS and had nobody ready. Kapler ought to send him a telegram with middle finger up.

Tingler will be gone by 8AM Monday. I think it’s highly possible that Bochy comes back to SD. Astounding that 3 of first 4 hitters hit HRs and he stays in……
It’s going to take 107 wins to take the division.

Belt was playing great no question. But he’s out once again. Yes a shame but he’s not helping. On the other hand I do hope he’s back next season

I understand what you're saying, of course Belt wouldn't play shortstop for that reason alone; my point was the broader one that he (like any first baseman) wouldn't have the athletic skills to play shortstop, even if he were right-handed.

Some interesting stats re: the San Jose Giants pitching staff…
They led all of the minor leagues in strikeouts this year, totaling 1439 (12/game). The closest team to them had 1315.
Carson Ragsdale (acquired from Philadelphia for Sam Coonrad) had 167 K’s in 113 innings (45 BB)
Kyle Harrison (2020 3rd Round draft choice) had 157 K’s in 98 innings (52 BB)
Prelander Berroa (acquired from Minn. with two others for Sam Dyson) had 135 K’s in 98 innings (53 BB)
Ryan Murphy (2020 5th Round draft choice) had 116 K’s in 76 innings (18 BB)
At best, I wouldn’t expect more than a couple of these guys to make it to the bigs (and be successful at that level). However, you never know…….
I added the BB’s after reading Phogge’s comment.

It’s going to take 107 wins to take the division.
107 wins will definitely win the division, but fewer wins would win if the Dodgers lose at least one in their last 4. Dodgers have one game against the Padres and three against the Brewers; Giants have one more against Arizona and three against the Padres. None of the opponents have anything left to play for. Brewers have clinched the NL Central; Padres have been eliminated. Padres are in a tailspin; they are 1-9 in their last 10 but might be motivated to play spoiler. Brewers are a better team, but are 4-6 in their last 10, and will be playing to set up their rotation for the divisional series. Arizona has the wort record in the NL.
Here's my best guess:
Giants go 106-76
Dodgers go 105-77
538 puts the chances of the Giants winning the division at 90% (that includes the chances of a tie with the Giants winning the 1-game tiebreaker).
https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/2021-mlb-predictions/?ex_cid=rrpromo
I'm not quite at 90%, but it's definitely higher than 50/50 (I would much rather be in the Giants shoes than the Dodgers' shoes).

Their manager certainly wasn't motivated to play spoiler last night; if the game had meant anything to the Padres they would have removed Pagan before he gave up four hits (including three home runs) to the only five batters that he faced. I'm sure their players are still giving their best effort but they aren't being managed to maximize their chances of winning, rather they are being led by someone who by all accounts has lost the clubhouse and knows that he only has four more games remaining in his tenure.

Giants have to win 3 of 4. Cause the Dodgers will run the table. Giants really got hosed by the way the schedule ends. Brewers have nothing to play for. I don’t think Dodgers will see either Burnes or Woodruff. I wouldn’t pitch them if I’m Craig Counsel. I don’t want the Dodgers to see them prior to the playoffs. They lost their set-up man. So they will get a bunch of the Brewers back end pitchers. He will play the starters some on Friday and Sat. But probably not much Sun.
Oh, and the Dodgers miss Musgrove. (They also missed Bumgarner in both late Az series).
Meanwhile, Padres WILL be motivated. Whether Tingler is or not.
Bum has his playoff game tonight. He isn’t what he was. But he is a fierce competitor. And he will want to shine tonight. I love the guy. But I hope he gets raked.
Win tonight. Take 2 of 3 vs Pads.
Not an easy task.
107 wins to take the division. Unreal.
Edit: ESPN has Burnes going Saturday. I’ll believe it when I see it. And if he does go, I’m thinking maybe once through the order.
Ore bad news - Watson to IL with shoulder strain. He’s been a big part of the bullpen down the stretch.

I would imagine that Milwaukee will pitch their guys in the order in which they will start in the playoffs - a handful of innings each to keep them fresh.

I do too. Bum's 1-3 with a 5.23 ERA in his last 7 ball games, giving up 9 HRs and 25 earned runs in 43 innings. D'Backs are 2-8 and have a four game losing streak. Kazmir's given up 3 HRs in his last 24 2/3 innings. Giants have won 16 of 18 against the D'Backs. I think he's ready.
Dodgers have won 11 of 18 against the Padres. They're going up against Velasquez, whose recent 12.63 ERA makes Bumgarner look like 1965 Koufax. And Gonsolin is looking sharp. Easy win for the Dodgers, I think.
Milwaukee...maybe not so fast. Dodgers are 1-3 against Milwaukee this season, with a 16-4 laugher, but two games in which the Dodgers scored just one run. I think Milwaukee presents some matchup problems. Timing favors Dodgers, first two games are late night games. Milwaukee may be wiped out, particularly for the first one.
I think it comes down to the last game of the season.

Went to the game tonight. Got seats five rows up from the field between home plate and the D-backs’ dugout. Was nice to give MadBum his due. And an awesome game. Wish I will be saying the same late Saturday afternoon, but not holding my breath.
Screw the Dodgers. And boy are those Padres pathetic.

Padres 3-16 down the stretch. All 3 wins vs Giants (3-4). They did win a continuation of a suspended game vs Braves during that time.
0-9 vs Dodgers since break…..

Giants 105-54, Dodgers are 103-56. Two game lead with three games to play after last night's stunning 5-4 walkoff victory, in which Stanford's very own Austin Slater went three for three and scored three runs. Belt's replacement Flores went 1-4 with a double.
I want to throw out a few interesting statistics:
- Giants are now the #6 MLB team in batting average, with a team BA of .250.
- Giants are #4 in OPS at .772 and #6 in runs scored (Dodgers are #5) with 788.
- Giants are #2 in overall home runs with 238...and none of the players have hit 30. And now that Belt is injured, looks like they still won't.
- Giants in #8 in triples, #9 in doubles, #16 in stolen bases, #3 in most walks, but #23 in fewest strikeouts. We strike out. A lot.
- Giants are #2 in both WHIP and ERA (Dodgers #1 in both).
- Giant pitchers have given up the second fewest home runs in MLB.
- Giant pitchers have the most shutouts with 83.
- Giants have the most saves with 55.
- Giant pitchers have given up the fewest walks in the league with 412.
- Giants are average in strikeouts, #14 in MLB.
- Giants #9 in fewest hits allowed.
- Giants #9 in fewest errors and fielding percentage.

Lets just hope they stay that way! We need a couple of wins. I don't count on the Dodgers losing to the Brewers. I would hope the Brewers don't want to let LA believe they have their "number", but as motivation that is pretty weak compared to winning a division. I doubt the Giants can back in. They will have to win it.
