RE: Sports trivia thread -

Well a guess since drafted in all three sports
Dave Winfield

Bill Sharman.

Excellent guesses but no.
Dave Winfield actually didn't even play high school football, although he was drafted by the NFL. which is a trivia question in itself.

1955 NCAA POY LaSalle's Tom Gola is the all time leader in career rebounds and the all time leader in combined rebounds and scoring. In the 1955 NCAA title game against USF who guarded Gola? How many points did this player score in the '56 title game against Iowa?
RE: Sports trivia thread -

Bill Russell? Or Mike Farmer?
Back to three sport AA Terry Baker?
RE: Sports trivia thread -
Phogge - 07-06-2021

Did Bo know basketball?

NM... I see now that Bob got it. Bo competed in baseball, football, and track, where he was a state champion decathlete, but alas, not basektball. Deion Sanders did play all three (plus track), but I'm guessing he wasn't all american in all three.
The closest Stanford had was Matt Lottich, who was an all-state athlete in football, basketball, and baseball.

Along those lines I don't think John Paye was all-state in baseball but he was drafted by the Giants in the amateur draft (35th round), and we know about his football/basketball accomplishments.

Guarded Gola - KC Jones?
As for points in the ‘56 game, I don’t know.
Who was the first high school athlete to be featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated (back in the day when that was a big deal)?

Massilon High, Ohio?
KC Jones is correct. He scored no points in the '56 championship because he had been a mid year graduate from Commerce High in San Francisco and played as a freshman at USF. Thus he completed four seasons of college play before the NCAA tourney. Gene Brown ably filled in and guarded Iowa All American Carl Cain.
What position did Brown hold for years in San Francisco City Government?

HR Director?
Circling back to the HS athlete on the SI cover question. I corrected my question after you may have seen it - who was the athlete not the school.
