RE: [merged] Giants/Niners 2021 thread - pefloresjr - 10-06-2021

Under no circumstances can I root for the Dodgers.  I hope they suffer the ignominious one game loss to end a historic season that Teejers was afraid the Giants would suffer.  Also, with all the varying pitching matchups, I don't put much stock in the regular season records.  Return to basic principles: I hope the Giants win everyday and I hope the f-ing Dodgers lose everyday.

Cheers,
Pete F.

Molina has been pretty damn good against the Giants, too.

I'd like the Giants' chances against either team better with Belt.

With Mick - don't have a preference on opponent, as both will be tough to beat.

It just seems like it's time for a Dodgers-Giants post-season showdown.

Arenado and Goldschmidt are #1 and #2 in HR’s hit by an opponent in the history of the Giants home park.     At least we don’t have to watch Goldschmidt hit against Lincecum. He absolutely owned Timmy.

In a surprise to absolutely no one, the San Diego Padres fire Jayce Tingler.

Muncy very doubtful which will make Gausman very happy.

Kershaw is a Dodger.  Either he re-signs with LA or he retires…..

Fun facts:

1) Dodgers don't have Max Muncy or Kershaw.  Cardinals have a laundry list of players recently returned from injury.
2) Cardinals recently won 17 straight.
3) Scherzer pitching.  Dodgers have won all 11 of his starts, but he gave up 5 runs in each of his last two starts.
4) Cardinals have 40 year old Adam Wainwright pitching.  He won 17 games this season.
5) Dodgers won season series 4-3.
6) Cardinals and Dodgers have faced each other six times in the postseason.  Cardinals have won four of the last five.

I don't have a preference, really.

It is a dilemma for Giants fans.  Face Arenado and Goldschmidt on the same team in the playoffs or the 106 win Dodgers.   I’ll take my chances with Arenado and Goldschmidt.  I hope St. Louis wins.

Buehler, Urias and Scherzer concern me more than ST.L offense. To me playoffs is about pitching.  Dodgers have the best staff.  Even without Kershaw - who may have pitched out of the pen.

Plus, if the Giants lose, I’d rather it be to St.L.  I don’t like the Cardinals.  But they ain’t the Dodgers.

the Giants now know who their opponent is.
do you think any of you guys will be watching

Seems like this is what we all expected from the beginning. Also seems like the story dictates the series ought to go seven games, no?

That would be something for this NLDS.
But yes, a go-the-distance 5-gamer seems appropriate for these two teams in NLDS.

Real time, I couldn't help myself:  was rooting for the Cardinals.  (Plus, their bully didn't look as scary as the Dodgers' - and I know the Dodgers have better starters).  Well, the Giants have defied the odds all season long . . . why stop now?

OK Lex, I’ll bet you a box of IT’s It that Kershaw signs somewhere else.

RE: [merged] Giants/Niners 2021 thread - BostonCard - 10-06-2021

Good point.  Still seems like it ought to go seven, even in a best-of-five series.

RE: [merged] Giants/Niners 2021 thread - Mick - 10-06-2021

Webb starts Friday, Gausman starts Saturday at Oracle.  Monday and Tuesday (if necessary) at Dodger Stadium.  Giants were 4-5 at home against the Dodgers, and 6-4 at Dodger Stadium.

There's some good news in there somewhere, I think.

It wasn’t me that suggested that he will stay.  I think he may retire.

Tommy Edman came up big.  Had a terrific game. Offensively and defensively.   Rest of the offense was AWOL. Knew game was going to come down to HR.

Giants are going to have to find ways to score beyond the long ball. Tough task. They have to get down to 26. My guess is Dickerson won’t be on roster. Not as sure about pitching staff. Figure 13. 4 starters plus Doval, Rogers, Leone. Alvarez, Littell Garcia, McKee (if healthy) Castro and Cueto.

Actually, I suggested that he will re-sign or retire.  I’ll stick to my prediction.  Kershaw bleeds Dodger Blue.

I must pass on the wagering opportunity.

WHAT? You don't like It's Its?

Any of you old guys remember the original stand up a bit on the Great Highway from Playland? They made them right in front of you.

You have to be really old Phogge. Yes I do lol.

RE: [merged] Giants/Niners 2021 thread - Mick - 10-07-2021

I have a co-worker who bleeds Dodger blue, from Brooklyn (go figure).  He wants a "unique" wager.  He's middle-aged, father of a couple kids, fairly regular guy.  Business manager of our transactional department.

Any suggestions?

Agree with your picks. Cueto is a bit iffy IMO but it would be hard to leave him off.

Dodgers win, you have to eat 2 Dodger Dogs for lunch.

Giants win, he eats sushi/sashimi and garlic fries.

The trick, of course, is how to get them from the ballparks to the table.

You have to eat the Dodger dogs however long it takes to get them from the ballpark to the office, and the same applies to him for the sashimi.

Oh, I well remember Playland and It’s It. Laughing Sal, the burlap sacks on the slide, sliding off the spinning wheel.  All good stuff.

I don’t wager because I learned years ago that it is true - a fool and his money are soon parted - it took a summer of regular visits to Golden Gate Fields to learn the lesson.
