Went to my first game of year last night. Probably the longest in my life that I waited to see a Giants game. At this age just too easy to watch on TV.
May have been the nicest night game weather wise I’ve been to at Oracle. Almost saw my third no-hitter (Reuss and Halicki). Don’t think Matos got a very good jump. But at least it wasn’t a cheapie. Hats off to Kapler for giving him the opportunity with the pitch count rising.And then letting him finish.

Really didn't like sending out Matos for Yaz. The rookie has not been great, but he has held his own for sure, and he seems to have been getting more solid contact. I also felt there was a little spark to his game that was part of the youth exuberance responsible for the 3 game uptick. It's possible sending Matos out so Yaz could come back deflated the team a bit, not because they don't like Yaz, but Matos was one of the youngsters providing the team energy.
Giants finish August 11-16 just like I feared was their ceiling for the month. Turning to September, they have 29 games left to play. What record will they need to eke into the playoffs? Historically the last NL Wild Card teams aren't too far above .500.
I will guess giants must go at least 16-13 to finish 85-77 and make the playoffs.

Under the category of "players who got away", we can add former All Star and Gold Glove winner 34-year old Adam Duvall, who currently has a slash line of .276/.339/.593/.933 for the Red Sox. He's homered in the last four games and won an American League Player of the Week earlier this year:

12-15 for August. I had them winning between 13-15. I’m looking for a big (hopefully) September finish.

The game at Petco was great. My son and I arrived two hours early and toured the park. Unbelievably friendly fans and management, the nicest opposite-side fans I've ever seen, or met...or heard of. Great experience. And there were more than a handful of Giants fans there.
I got excited early on...I thought Beck was coming in to pitch after Junis, turned out to be Manaea, who was taken out of a shutout and flipped his glove on top of the dugout. Estrada, Pederson, Sabol, Yaz all had two hits, looked great. Sabol...I saw that there were three wild pitches credited to three different Giants pitchers. Looks to me like Sabol had a rough time. He's not Posey or Bailey at blocking pitches in the dirt, that's for certain.
And as much as we complain about Giants' fielding, five of the Giants runs yesterday were unearned on three Padre errors.

Glad you had a good time. It is a nice park. Gaslight district is fun as well.
Manaea was mad at himself. He walked 5. Had no command.
Meanwhile, in LA the Clash of the Titans. Acuna hits grand slam. Becomes first in history with 30 HRs and 60 SB. Betts responds with 2 HRs, giving him 38. Stars. Who needs them? I do! They make the game so much more exciting.
Course, sometimes it doesn’t work. Prellar must be going nuts. I’m a big believer in Bob Melvin. If he can’t get those guys right, not sure anyone can. One of the strangest seasons I’ve seen. 0-11 in extras. At about 100 game mark (I haven’t checked lately) their longest win streak was 3. Big positive run differential. brobdingnagian gap in expected wins and actual record. Bizarre.
Last night looked like a team mailing it in. They had just come from StL. Where they lost last two, both on Tommy Edman walk offs. The second on a two strike two out two run HR off Hader.
Giants need to make hay. Take at least 3 of 4. This is a classic example of “it’s not who you play, it’s when you play ‘em.”

Not sure if 10 day rule applies when roster expands. But if it does I would have waited to today to bring Yaz back. Don’t like losing Matos for 10.

Kyle Harrison (1.86 ERA) pitching tonight against Blake Snell (league-leading 2.60 ERA). Snell also leads the league in walks with 85, hit by pitch with 12 and fewest hits given up per 9 innings pitched with 6.2. Snell has won four of his last five. Unaccountably, I am feeling pretty good about it...

Meckler's flat line drive swing works great against waist high non big break pitches. Throw in a hard break or high heat and he is over matched. He may turn out to be pretty good seeing how inexperienced he is, but for now over matched too often to depend on him for the big hit, imo.
