I hope that in future years the number of transfers dies down, and that a lot of this is post-Covid only.  I find it really disconcerting that players shuffle from university to university with increasing frequency (Destiny Slocum being a case in point.)  It really shows that the emphasis on building a basketball career takes precedence over academic continuity.  And while I understand it from a future pro's perspective--if it continues it will highlight why educational institutions should not be in that business.  Furthermore, if this were to happen to my team it would decrease my interest and enthusiasm.  As with pro sports, I find it hard to support a team in which I barely know who the players are in any given year.

I totally agree with this statement. Even in the case of "future pros" players there are two cases. One is that they are transferring from a "lower tier" conference where they may be overlooked to an "upper tier" conference. That may make sense. The other case is lack of playing time because you are not the best player on the team at your position. Many athletes may put themselves in the latter category, believing they have a pro career ahead but that they just need to get on the field/court. Some (very few) of these players are correct. Most (vast majority) are kidding themselves. They aren't playing where they are and probably won't play where they are going. That is where the real tragedy lies. These transfers get a worse/no education and no pro career anyway.

Glad to hear it, but seems like we have half a roster of 6'2" shooting forwards, haha. It seems like we could really, really use some smaller, speedier point/shooting guards. A lot more, right?

It's always interesting to see what the videos chose to highlight (since they are highlight videos, it's tough to know what the denominator looks like).  I saw a lot of dribble drives into the paint, and a bunch of blocked shots.  The highlights show her doing a nice job rebounding and taking the ball up the court.  What I saw less of was three pointers (I think only 2 in the whole video).

2006 is right that there is a lot of overlap to players currently on the roster, but the Hull twins will be academic seniors this year, though they will have a year of eligibility left.

Our definite weakness/lack of depth is at guard right now. Our other spots are deep right now, but comparatively speaking, our guards positions are somewhat lacking. I think that's why Jordan Hamilton came in for the next season.

We really need Kiki Rice (if we still have a shot at her) to join our team

my memory is that she has some interest in a number of other schools, including duke and yale, but has expressed no preference for or against anyone. did i miss something? 

i assumed she was waiting on admissions or that she knows that schools want her and, like haley, can take her time.

** I copy & pasted this post I wrote in April. I'm not sure if this still holds but in April this is how it was.**

I agree with you about social media and how it can give great insight into a recruit and where they are leaning however if we are going off of who she is following Stanford looks pretty good. Yes, she's following Duke and Kara Lawson's personal account but she is also following Stanford wbb as well as many of the girls on the team. If we are reading between the lines I think her following Elena Bosgana, Jzaniya Harriel, Brooke Demetre and Kiki Iriafen as a good sign along with some juniors and seniors. I'm not too familiar with the Duke roster but after a quick glance as to who she is following it looks like she's following Stanford players the most. More than Michigan, UCLA, Duke, Yale, Louisville, Maryland, Arizona, BC, UCONN, and UNC.

Rice has been incredibly tight lipped about her recruitment aside from her initial list of 11 finalists. My hope is she comes out for an official visit in the fall as it’s likely been a while with covid since she’s been on campus and around our current team. 

She was following ALL of the Stanford players on social media at one point, and has since unfriended several. Duke seems like the logical fit for academics, Kara is an up and comer coach, and the chance to play closer to home. How successful have we been in recent memory luring elite East coast prospects all the way across the country to the farm?  My inkling is she’s moved on from Stanford. I really hope I’m wrong. All we can do is wait and see.

both her parents went to yale. her aunt went to stanford. all will know that stanford (or yale), not duke, is the choice for academics. duke is a great school, but not at stanford's level academically.

aunt susan has flown all over the world as ambassador to the u.n. and as national security advisor. the family has vacationed in africa, europe, and the caribbean link. i think this is a family that will have no trouble flying to the west coast.

I know a lot of us are stanford homers here, but comparing Stanford and Duke education at the undergraduate level is splitting hairs.  I don't think she'd miss out on much if anything academically by going to Duke over Stanford - especially for anything non engineering related.
