RE: WVB: NCAA Tourney - martyup - 12-04-2021

Well, we didn't expect to go deep in this tourney this year.  However, the future is bright for Stanford WVB.  We have solid incoming recruits.

RE: WVB: NCAA Tourney - mbdude - 12-04-2021

And another 5 - 0 run in 3rd set

Who besides Rubin coming next year?

RE: WVB: NCAA Tourney - martyup - 12-04-2021

Hats off to Holly Campbell.  She's been great.

???  Beaven presumably has been playing because she hasn’t been injured, unlike pretty much every other reasonable option. Not sure there’s any “failure” to figure anything out on Hambly’s part, unless I’m misunderstanding the post.

I dunno, I kind of feel the way we lost match point was more disappointing than the two service errors… :-(

Or we lost both sets on long negative runs in the middle of each. The service errors may have been the last nails, but those coffins were sealed long before.

In other words, I don’t think all set point service errors are created equal. If you are serving and down 23-24, I entirely agree that you don’t want a service error. But if you’re down 20-24 (or worse), a lollipop doesn’t do any good (especially given our current state of defense.

Missing the serve when the opponent has set point is one of the Seven Sins of Serving.  It is generally considered the most egregious of serving errors in any circumstance.

Yes you are missing the point as usual.  Explain to me why Hambly was using only two players for serve receive in some rotations rather than playing Beaven.

It seems your only motivation for posting on WVB threads are veiled attempts to insult me.  Why don't you bring something of value to these threads you jacka$$.

RE: WVB: NCAA Tourney - 82 Card - 12-04-2021

Well, guess I have a lot of time this month that I will have to reallocate.

Although the team did not go as far as we hoped, I really enjoyed watching them all season. There's a lot of work to do during the off season. I can't wait to see what they come up with next year.

I didn't understand this post, either.  Though I have now seen your explanation.

Yes, take the rest of the year off ladies, recover from any nagging injuries.  Start early in January to get after it.  Daily time in the weight room and work on the fundamentals.  I expect big things next season.

Wow…

I enjoy Stanford sports, but not where The CardBoard has apparently gone.

Bye.

Ironically, the more sports that are struggling the less likely it is the ADs fault.

If only there was something bigger that might be altering practices, team bonding, campus culture, recruiting and air travel.   Hmmm, maybe there has been something like that over the last 20 months that could have negatively impacted Stanford.

It will come to me....
Muir...No
Scott...No
Tessier-Lavigne...No

COVID-19....Ding, ding, ding.

For those that have not been on campus during COVID-19, the campus environment right now is just not normal.   Stanford, in the best of times is challenging and stressful, especially for student-athletes.  Add the stress of COVID, COVID-19 testing, and COVID-19 protocols and the campus is honestly going to impact the precious balance needed for Stanford student-athletes to win at the highest level.

That's why I was very confident no coach would be fired for a lack of success in 2020-2021, and it looks like that will be true here in 2021-2022.

For those that doubt it could be that bad, just take a day off from your job and walk around campus on an average weekday.   Then you will see and understand that Stanford's athletics teams are just trying to maintain some sense of normalcy, but realistically it will take a vastly superior roster of talent (men's gymnastics) or a very experienced hall of fame level coach (women's hoops) to win a national title at Stanford during COVID.

As long as a coach, or administrator, is trying to lead their team/organization they probably will be on The Farm in the 2022-2023 academic year.

And with that, please return to demanding Muir, Shaw and others be fired, or are overpaid, or could easily be replaced by many others.

Please refrain from calling other posters “jackass”. That’s not acceptable on this board.  We’re all frustrated at how this season turned out, but don’t take it out other posters.

RE: WVB: NCAA Tourney - johnbar - 12-04-2021

I knew playing Minnesota at Minnesota was going to be tough.  But yesterday's fourth set gave me hope.  The team really seemed to be clicking.

But the Gophers took full advantage of Stanford's poor passing and defense.

In retrospect I should not have written the last sentence in my comment.  I should have abided by a rule I use to have.  If someone is annoying me, wait 24 hours before responding.  Then decide if it’s still important.  Usually it’s not.

This guy has attempted to insult me on WVB threads throughout the season.  Awhile back I sent him a message asking not to do that.  He didn’t stop.  In any event the next time around I’ll wait before responding to a similar situation.

RE: WVB: NCAA Tourney - Madera86 - 12-04-2021

My bad. I keep forgetting that Stanford athletics has been impacted by COVID but no other schools have.

People who strongly disagree with you on message boards generally are not attempting to insult you. They just disagree. You're the one who started calling names.

RE: WVB: NCAA Tourney - BostonCard - 12-04-2021

Just FYI, Palo Alto, the double negative in your post made it hard to tell whether you thought Beaven was an elite defender or not.  As I read it, you were criticizing Hambly for thinking she was elite (didn’t realize… she was not elite)  And given how she performed when Oglive was out, it might have been pretty easy to come to the conclusion that she was not an elite defender.  Of course, there is a lot more pressure on the libero than a defensive specialist, and hopefully she will see more of a role next year.

Exactly.  The excuse/rationalization of "Covid" as cause for Stanford's sporting travails is just not credible.
