Two of last years Oregon State’s starters from
Last season played for Duke the other day in their big win.

Watching OSU vs UCLA -- OSU has led all the way, totally dominating the boards. Early in 4th quarter, up by 8, shooting much better than UCLA. Of note, Osborne is not playing, on the bench with her left arm in a sling -- presumably from her crash in the Oregon game on Friday. Question is, how long is it going to take for her to recover. For UCLA in this game, Rice is by far the strongest player.

Update -- OSU wins 77-72. Rice fouled out midway through the 4th quarter

As good as Kiki Rice has been and how great she will be, I’m having difficulty seeing her fitting with Stanford had she picked to play for Stanford.

Talia Von Oelhoffen looks unhappy. I wonder if she’ll transfer.

Agree with both of those statements. Keep thinking that Talia should transfer, Ruecks offense doesnt suit her and he won't change; Talia and Beers are there best players

Watched Iowa go down to Illinois today.  Clark has amazing skills, but is not much of a leader.  She sure complains a lot.  She fouled out today, but had 30 points in a loss.

Oregon State's highest ever ranked recruit, freshman 6'2 Timea GARDINER (#6 overall in 2022),
has not played a single game.  Is she lost for the season due to injury?

Amazing how many top 15 teams have gone down in the last several days:  Iowa; Indiana; UCLA; NC State; Virginia Tech; North Carolina, and several others barely missed being on this list

RE: WBB: Other Teams 22-23 season - 81alum - 01-01-2023

UCLA has had the injury bug now for 3 years.  Trying to recover from a devastating injury on the road was just too much.  (Devastating given it knocked out their key player--hopefully the injury itself is not severe for Osborne.)  Oregon State has always been able to play defense.

Utah is not looking like the team that scored 120 against Oklahoma, scratching out a 61-53 win at Washington.  Washington also seems to know something about defense.

Oregon embarrasses USC.  Oregon is such a hot and cold team.  USC had the misfortune to catch them when hot.  The USC point total by quarter was awful--8, 14, 16, 7.  Perhaps Oregon actually plays defense now.

Colorado beats WSU in Pullman.  WSU really really misses Leger-Walker.

It's all about love.  They just have lost that loving feeling.

As of last week Oregon state expected Gardiner back soon

RE: WBB: Other Teams 22-23 season - WBB fan - 01-02-2023

ESPN new power rankings now out. Utah is way up, now #8 from #14 in previous rankings. UCLA now #14, down a notch from #13. Lots of movement in this top 15 list, reflecting all the upsets last week, but S Carolina and Stanford still #1 and #2.

Geno is going to miss his another game with a mystery illness and it sounds like he may not return any time soon.  I wonder if there might be something more serious going on UConn isn't sharing. He's up to 3 missed games now.

The following statement appeared on the UConn website today:  "It's been an extremely difficult month for me, and I've been feeling under the weather and run down," Auriemma said. "I thought I was ready to return, but I need a little more time. I'm going to take a step back to focus on my health and will return when I feel ready."

His mother died on 12/8 and one of the games he missed was to see her a few days before she died.

I hope whatever it is that he has a complete and prompt recovery and that it is nothing serious.

Uconn DePaul game postponed. Uconn fewer than minimum rqd 7 scholarship players
Edwards and Patterson injured now

Is it time to call in OSHA?
UConn women's basketball team's injuries, ailments and absences over past year
(Updated yesterday evening, so doesn't say why Patterson can't play.  The UConn site indicates Patterson was injured in the latest game.  The box score for that game indicates Patterson played 19 minutes and was in at the end of the game. Patterson injured her finger on Dec. 28 and has been wearing a splint.)

I would be surprised if you are REQUIRED to have 7 (or even 1) scholarship players in order to play. Perhaps it is that IF you have 7 scholarship players, you are required to play the game. They indicate 6 are unable to play. UConn's roster shows 12 players. The NCAA limit on the number of WBB team members on (even partial) scholarship is 15.

I don't know why he has such a short bench (12 vs 15). He's had 12 players the past 3 seasons, and 11 the season before that.

At this point, Tara is 11 wins ahead of Geno.

UConn fans are speculating they will probably cancel their game against South Carolina again this season (this time in order to reschedule the Depaul game). Assuming the injuries aren't serious, it's probably not a bad development.  They'll likely have a better shot at a #1 seed without suffering a big blowout to SC.

Hypothetically what happens if the same situation occurs during Ncaa's

Uconn wouldn't duck SCAROLINA,  no way. Lol

I do sympathize with all the Uconn injuries. It's unfortunate. BUT, we as a program have had many injuries over the years along with many other teams. They are getting way over the top coverage about it this year. Stop already ESPN. When Uconn won 4 titles in a row - they were healthy for 4 straight years. Injuries can happen to any program. It's also Geno's choice to have a roster of 9 or 10 kids so when they dip below a minimum threshold to play a game; it's partly their own fault for not having a bigger roster.

RE: WBB: Other Teams 22-23 season - DaBears17 - 01-06-2023

Between April 2021 and May 2022 UConn had 4 players transfer out. Geno tends to keep his rotation to 7, maybe 8 players, even if it is a game they easily win.  Usually he only goes deeper than that in the last minute or two of the game.

His philosophy seems to be you earn your playing time in practice and if the player isn’t ready to play to his standards, putting them in will make the starters have to work harder.

This causes players who want to play that don’t meet his standards to transfer.

Would be interesting if the South Carolina game is cancelled. Some UConn fans have been saying Stanford and South Carolina played weaker OOC schedules than they should of.
