No he was not. He was hired at Wisconsin in 2022. He had not coached college since being fired as Houston's DC in 2018.
He was a terrible DC, but guess what? He's not our DC! I dug into his ILB coaching resume (from when he actually, you know, coached ILBs) and it's quite good. He did a very good job with Wisconsin's ILBs this year especially considering they lost both starters to the NFL. And he also overlapped with our S&C coach Ryan Deatrick in Houston from 2017-18.

My bad, I had him confused with Kolodziej who had been at Wisconsin for some time before coming over.

Maybe D'onofrio takes on special teams as well. He has done that for a couple other teams.
If Matt gets his wish and there are two DB coaches, then someone will have to do double duty as a ST coach, assuming that we Taylor doesn’t do triple duty as HC, OC, and QB coach (which he shouldn’t).

FWIW, Taylor's previous staff at Sac State had separate CB and S coaches, and the TE coach did double duty as ST coach.

It’s also possible that Taylor will just roll with an analyst to coordinate special teams. That’s becoming more common these days as kickoffs gets phased out of the game. Without doing a deep dive, Colorado and Iowa State are two P5 programs that come to mind that won’t have an on-field special teams coordinator in 2023.

Kolodziej is a weight room warrior who has been S&C coach for six seasons at Wisconsin, starting out as assistant S&C coach at Pittsburgh before being promoted to S&C coach there. He spent the 2009 offseason as the S&C intern for UW when he finished his degree there. Sounds like he could be a candidate.

Speaking of which - Daniels? Patu? Who is the leader in in the clubhouse?
We'll see if it gets officially announced but tea leaves seem to point to Pritchard as QB coach. I don't know if other titles (offensive coordinator, associate head coach, assistant head coach, recruiting coordinator, etc.) would come with it.

Not sure this is the best for Pritchard. He needs a resume that says something other than “Stanford” on it. At least he will be exposed to a completely different offensive system, but he will be teaching our QB’s the new offense as he js learning the system, which seems suboptimal. On the plus side, he will give the team some continuity.
Two coaches left, presumably our DB coaches, plus, we have to figure out who works with special teams.
