So NOT Colon? I'm guessing he meets the HR Allowed criteria but isn't in the HOF.

Moyer and Tanana are in the top overall, with Moyer leading the way. Just not in the HOF.

There are ten players who played the majority of their career after 1940 and who have a career batting average of .315 or better. Who are they?

Not sure what you intended for minimum number of ABs.
Following cardcrimson's lead of Casey Schmitt, I'll throw out Luis Arraez.

Williams, Carew, Gwynn, DiMaggio, and Musial are correct.
Not Rose -- career average .303.

Wade Boggs is correct.
My source is Baseball-Reference.com, which uses a minimum of 3,000 plate appearances. Arraez has a .321 career average, but only 1,737 plate appearances, so he doesn't qualify. Casey Schmitt has 40 plate appearances.

Not Mattingly -- career average .307.
So far, we have six of the ten players:
.344 Ted Williams
.338 Tony Gwynn
.331 Stan Musial
.328 Wade Boggs
.328 Rod Carew
.325 Joe DiMaggio

DiMag started in 1936. I think Teddy Ballgame and Stan The Man Unusual also started in the 1930s.
I'd guess Wade Boggs, and I agree...Casey Schmitt is over .315.
Ichiro Suzuki
Carl Yastrzemski?
Willie McGee?
I think Rose was like Mays, around .302.

My original question asked about players who played the majority of their careers after 1940. DiMaggio played 8 of his 13 seasons after 1940, Williams played 17 of his 19 seasons after 1940, and Musial played his entire career after 1940. So, they all are included on this list.
My source, Baseball-Reference.com, uses a minimum of 3,000 plate appearances, so Schmitt doesn't qualify. If I had used MLB.com, this list would be the same.
Wade Boggs is correct (.328).
Suzuki (.311), Yastrzemski (.285), and McGee (.295) didn't make it to .315.
You're right about Rose (.303) and Mays (.301) being around .302. Good memory!

Ichiro had a .322 average, if you count the Japanese years. He played for 28 years total; amazing.

I think the Yankees had a player who regularly had .325+ seasons. Might have played third base. Can't remember his name. I think he became a manager and Bruce Bochy embarrassed him in a game when he didn't know a mount visit rule (he visited the pitcher, stepped off the mound, turned around and stepped briefly on the mound to make a minor point, and Bochy caught him for making a repeat visit, and therefore needed to replace his pitcher. Last name may have started with a D.
Edit: I peeked. I was thinking of Don Mattingly, 1st base, not third base, and his career BA was .307.

Actually last name didn’t start with a D. First name does. Last name is “Baseball”
