Was there for five innings. Two three run homers for a six run inning. Score 6-1.
WA Yorkies had a crazy 8 run inning. Score 9-6.
Final score 11-9 Stanford. Team has grit, resilience, and can really hit. 6-0 and can’t wait for the next game.

We beat UW 9-5, thanks to a 7-run 6th inning when we batted ‘round (granny by Haskins). Can we extend the streak tomorrow?

This team is incredible. Two frosh starters whacking the heck out of the ball. Veterans hitting … well, Haskins’s grand slam today says it all. It’s a hitting machine with excellent pitching. Best team in quite a few years.

Just waiting for the third frosh to start whacking the ball. He will get his home runs eventually, soon I hope.

Don’t worry, when it starts, it will be prolific!

Game 4 vs UW starts with frosh Parker Warner getting his second start. Troyc busting out his Nihongo (Japanese) by introducing Sasaki’s position as “ichiruishu” (first baseman). :)

They scored 3 T8, but Haskins hit his 4th homer in as many games and we head into T9 leading 7-3.

For anyone wondering as I was, we completed the 4-game sweep and are now 8-0 with a four game homestead against Xavier next.

Re next weekend’s series with Xavier. There are at least two Xavier universities: one in Louisiana, the other in Cincinnati, OH. We are playin the OH guys. As far as I can tell.

The start is great but there's a long way to go before being the best team in quite a few years.
Firstly the streak isn't beyond what has happened recently. They had a 17 game win stream in 2022. They started off with a 10 game win streak in Esquer's first year (2018). In 2023 they won 7 in a row three times.
Currently the team remains unranked in most every poll. The team spent most of 2021-23 in the top 10 - as high as #2 for much of 2023.
The other issue is the level of competition. Fullerton followed being swept by us with losing 3 of 4 at Fresno then another loss to USC; they're 1-8. UW is only 3-6, though we gave them 4 of those losses.
I remain quite concerned about depth of quality pitching. Five of our pitchers have WHIPs well over 2, some of whom we are going to need to be effective. But the frosh pitcher Parker Warner had a far better outing his second time out - very encouraging. And the emergence of Keenan as a reliable closer could be brobdingnagian (4 appearances, 4.1 IP, 0 runs, 0 hits, 1 walk, 1 win, 3 saves).
I am a little more bullish on the hitting as it has been strong across the board. Saum is the only one with significant at bats who is hitting below 0.300, but his OPS is 0.904.
Next up is Xavier, which may be a little stronger than Fullerton and UW. They're 5-3, with 2 of their losses to top 10 Oregon State. Every game they have played is on the road as is the case for most northeastern teams at this point in the season.
We're going to hit some bumps during our many road trips to the eastern time zone to face a row of good teams, so I hope we keep piling up the wins now.

In the USA Today / Coaches poll, Stanford received 43 votes, which would put them at #32, behind NC State by 1 vote. In the ACC, Fl State (#5), UNC (#6), Clemson (#9), Virginia (#11 with a 3-3 record), Wake Forest (#13), and Duke (#21) are ahead of Stanford.
Not in ESPN or Baseball America's polls.
In Warren Nolan's College Baseball live-RPI ranking, he has Stanford at #26. VaTech is the highest rated ACC team at 7, Notre Dame at 11, Fl St. at 18, UNC at 20, and this week's opponent, Xavier at 22.
We'll see how it plays out.

In Friday’s game against Xavier, bottom of the seventh, two outs, Jimmy Nati hits an opposite field line drive down the right field line and it’s called fall. Stanford screams like hell. Take a look at this video and judge for yourself.

oh, I dunno. It's hard to tell because the playback is frozen for the first few seconds of the clip (or maybe that's just my old AF computer). The first time through it looked fair to me, but then I replayed it some more times, and I have to admit it looks foul -- but not by much more than an inch or two.

Honestly, I don’t know, but I thought that the least I could do was post a video.
