Why is this invitational on FloSports? Stanford is up 4-2 over Texas, top of the 4th

Stanford currently with 8 hits vs 2 hits for Texas.

Meanwhile Stanford's former pitching phenon is 4-2 at Texas Tech.  It looks like TT's hitting is not all that and a bag of chips.

What's sad, with how last year's young offense has predictably improved with more experience, is that Stanford with Canady could have won a national championship. Maybe it is just me, but a couple of million dollars, when the alternative is still six figures from Stanford, isn't worth what was given up (40 year decision etc.).

Yep, Canady left when Stanford offered her a paltry $300K to stay.   She could have won an NC and with the publicity upped her asking price.  She could have asked for $2mil her senior season and been the highest paid college athlete outside of football.

Stanford beats #1 Texas 9-5.

Just a remarkable performance by a young Stanford softball squad. Tremendous credit to Zoe Prystajko and Alyssa Houston for keeping Stanford in the game and giving this Stanford offense a chance to send a big statement. (For the record Texas Tech when Canady didn't pitch lost 11-0 to Texas in Austin).

RE: Stanford Softball 2025 - Spiny_Norman - 02-21-2025

An awesome accomplishment when Stanford beats the #1 team in the country in two different sports on the same day.

I don't know Canady's family situation.  That said, two million dollars can do a lot more for your family and still leave her with seven figures to invest. Another year followed by a similar NIL deal would leave her pretty well off when she starts working. The 40 year decision ran much louder when most athletes left college with little money.  If we can hit as well as we have all year, we won't miss Canady that much.

Agree completely.  Anyone here who would not have left Stanford for $700,000 over two years please step up. I would like to talk to you about some beachfront property near Lubbock Texas which we can pick up,for a song!

To,be honest, I would have left for $10,000 .   No need to put the big bucks on the table.

Oh how far this softball program has come since the days were were the doormat of the Pac-12.  This is going to be a fun season to follow.

I notice in the comments on that X post that Oklahoma fans both happy that TX got beat and butt hurt that TX was ranked #1. If there really is a Woofing God, Oklahoma is in big trouble.

What a difference a year makes.  Last year we hit 57 homeruns  over the season, this year we have 27 already.  Whether we have anyone who can catch Mendoza's season HR record remains open to question.  50 homeruns is a big number considering the total number of games.

RE: Stanford Softball 2025 - paloalto - 02-22-2025

Colorado State scored two runs top of second.  Fortunately Stanford scored five runs bottom of the second.

RE: Stanford Softball 2025 - BobK - 02-22-2025

10-2 win. Only one HR :)

Big game today.  Need to let the softball world know Stanford is for real and that the Texas win was not a fluke.  I think the 20 ranking is at least 5 spots too low.  Big question is who gets the start.  Seems most likely to be Houston. Those 4 walks and 2 wild pitches really hurt last time we played them.

RE: Stanford Softball 2025 - paloalto - 02-23-2025

Stanford playing Arizona.  Prystajko is pitching.  It's not going well.  After one inning Arizona up 3-0 with two home runs.

I get the feeling Cardinal will have to score a bunch to win this.

RE: Stanford Softball 2025 - paloalto - 02-23-2025

Arizona wins 10-2.

We hit the ball against Texas, but did not do well against AZ in either game. Nor did we pitch well against AZ.  So big question is whether Texasis really #1.  We are 1 and 2 against top 20 teams.  Time will tell.
