Happy Elimination Day, Giants fans!
So fitting for a feckless and boring team to be excommunicated from post-season contention in a game the only player that fans care to see, SP Kyle Harrison, was scratched a few minutes before it started, and the team pounded out 3 hits on its way to being shutout at home.
This 2023 Giants team is like a piece of fruit that doesn't look very appetizing, but you bite into it anyway, knowing you've had good tasting fruit that didn't look pretty before, only to find it tasteless, juiceless, and mealy. You have no choice but to spit it out what you put in your mouth and throw it in the trash.
Must win today to eliminate the Padres and have a shot at 81-81. Still think 80-82 is the likely ending.

His perspective is undoubtedly different from Zaidi and Kapler. And he certainly has credibility.
Speaking of Webb. He’s not going to win the CY. Blake Snell probably is. Ponder this: Snell faced 11 batters past the 6th inning all year. Webb went at least 7 16 times.
I think I hope Posey has a lot more say. Don't know him nor his philosophy on Baseball. Seems like an old school guy, and he certainly handled the staff really well over a lot of years and lot of different pitchers. So hope it is.
Regarding pitching. Wow, 11 batters past the sixth. Embarrassing, but it is the new reality of baseball. Don't let pitches go through the line up a third time. . . .Krukow had an interesting point the other morning. In the old days, the third time through was when pitchers learned to pitch. Your stuff isn't as good, so you'd have to beat them with guile and placement.

That and pitch counts. Snell throws a lot of pitches. Webb has thrown about 40 more innings and something like 25 more pitches for the season.
I wonder what Nolan Ryan’s pitch count average was back when he struck out something like 380 and walked about 220. It had to be around 150. But he was a unicorn.

A's fans are stuck with the worst owner in baseball but they know it. Giants fans are in the same hell but a better ventilated room, having an owner who thinks all's well. Same hell, however.

Nah. The Giants won 30 more games and aren't moving anytime soon. The A's fans, well, their hell is a much darker despair. Became an A's fan after our move to the East Bay. brobdingnagian fan. Now I seriously can't name a player on the team. Shameful.

It isn’t possible to compare Fisher to any other owner in baseball. He is the only one who gives zero effort to fielding a winning team. There are a lot of less than average teams in MLB. Only the A’s have created an environment in which their fans know it is a hopeless situation with nothing better on the horizon.
Contrary to what Manfred and his merry pranksters have said, it is not losing per se that has led to poor attendance, it is the owner’s concerted effort to field a team that would struggle in the PCL that has led to the team’s attendance woes. Why support a team that has no desire to get any better?
If it wasn’t for revenue sharing (the worst idea in professional sports), Fisher would have sold long ago. Instead, his fellow owners have given him a reason to hang on - free money. Now he is taking his show on the road. Las Vegas will soon find out that they have been hoodwinked by a guy who would have been an elixir salesman in a past generation.

Is the Vegas move even a done deal? I've read the earliest possible date for a new stadium to be ready is in 2028. Also have seen there is a state ballot initiative being put together to block it, maybe even lawsuits.
And of course, do they even have an agreed on site to build?
The Coliseum has no reason to extend the A's lease. Are the Giants gonna debase themselves and let the squatter John Fisher A's play in their stadium to give them a place to play before they leave?
I see all this "momentum" toward the A's leaving for Vegas, but I'm not sure it isn't all a mirage in the desert.

Yes they have a location. It took 40 months to build the raider stadium in Vegas. But every thing else you wrote OF seem to be true

It is just a matter of time. Now that Rays have resolved their stadium issue, the A’s to Vegas is all that are left to accomplish before baseball owners receive between $50-$100 million each via expansion.
The owners will vote for the move in November when they are scheduled to review the application. Within another year, Nashville, for sure, and Charlotte (?) will become the 31st and 32nd teams and baseball’s collective ownership group will be counting their winnings.
In sports, it is only about one thing - money…….

Forget Nashville or Charlotte; Oakland has a much more rich sports history. . . .

Indeed, but they have no money and their surrounding areas have no money. Not that it really matters much, because it is all about the media rights, but Alameda County isn't going to build the expansion team a stadium. Nashville/Charlotte might, and they probably bring many more eyes to the media market.

Darn. I forgot that sarcasm emoji again. There's a lot more than just media rights, but that discussion is frowned on. . . .

This has to make Lex’s day!
It was not a major surprise after yesterday when Zaidi did not commit to bringing him back (even after Johnson’s remarks last week). I kinda figured something might be up.
Quite frankly, I am glad. I haven’t been as strong an advocate for his dismissal as Lex but pinch hitting Mathias for Crawford v. Chapman confirmed to me that his commitment to analytics had crossed the line from “yeah, ok” to “are you kidding me” . I have my fingers crossed that San Diego will screw up by sending Melvin packing (a good possibility). He would be an ideal manager for SF.
So begins an off-season of significant change………

I’d love to see Melvin….. Good Cal guy. :) Knew it was a possibility when I read Zaidis comments about team not being ready for Arizona.
Melvin checks a lot of boxes. He and Zaidi know each other well. He certainly is not a guy that eschews analytics. And he’s also a long time baseball man with Bay Area ties. If the Padres let him go I think it’s quite possible the Giants snap him up.

Well, there aren’t any position players worth pursuing. Snell would be a nice addition but Zaidi has a history of not signing free agent pitchers to big contracts.

So unbelievably weak and pathetic to fire Kapler 3 games before the season ends.
Just F-you Farhan. If he needs to go, YOU need to go!
