Ruby Sorra is representing Canada (with Molley McBain) in the FIVB Challenge event in Shangluo, China.  They went 1-1 in pool and will move on to the elimination rounds.  They beat a lower-seeded Chinese team, but lost to the Spanish pair, Izuzquiza/Moreno, formerly of TCU.

Alumna Xolani Hodel is also playing in this event, with her partner Hailey Harward.  They went 2-0 in pool and will get a first round bye.

Sorra & McBain beat a Chinese team 2-0 and then a German team 2-1.
I watched some of the latter match on youtube. There was only one camera angle, but it was on center court and the stands appeared to be nearly empty.

They will meet a Czech team in the quarterfinals.

Ruby Sorra and Molly McBain are now playing in an FIVB "Elite" (highest level) tournament in Rio de Janeiro.
They won a qualification match yesterday to get into the main draw.  They started their first pool match yesterday, and lost the first set. But high winds forced a stop to all matches (the television tower/scaffolding blew over).  Play was postponed until today, so the matches were restarted from the beginning, and Sorra/McBain beat a Brazilian team 2-0.  They play again later today against the Americans Kraft/Cheng, wit a third pool match tomorrow.

Xolani Hodel and Hailey Harward also qualified. but dropped their first match to the #1 seed (Carol/Rebecca, Brazil).

Sorra/McBain went 1-2 in pool. This afternoon they won a "Lucky Loser" match to get into tomorrow's round of 16.

Hodel/Harward also went 1-2, but lost their Lucky Loser match to another American team.

Unfortunately, Sorra & McBain got matched up with the #1 seed, and the Brazilians beat them 21-10, 21-15.  They finish tied for 9th.
Still a very good result up against the world's best.

The Manhattan Beach Open qualifier was today.
Thalia Lindahl and Simrin Adams (entering 2027) played together and got knocked out in the first round.

Belardi & Bell got a first-round bye, won in the second round, but then lost to Clara Stowell and (alumna) Kate Reilly.  So Stowell & Reilly are in the main draw; as is Xolani Hodel and her partner Hailey Harward.

I forgot to mention Avery Jackson, playing with Sarah Wood, was also seeded into the main draw. (Maybe a wildcard?)
Anyway, they won their first round match.  

Hodel/Harward and Stowell/Reilly lost their first matches and are in the contenders' bracket.

Jackson/Wood, won their first two matches, then were knocked into the contenders bracket by the #2 seed (Cheng/Kraft).
They beat the #5 seed and then lost a 3-set match to the #9 seed.  They finished tied for 7th.  Not bad for the 26th seed.

Hodel/Harward went 2-2 overall and finished tied for 13th.

Stowell/Reilly went 0-2 in the main draw.

Meanwhile in Toronto, Ruby Sorra (playing with Molly McBain) took fourth place in the Volleyball Canada Beach National Championship.

Ofure Odigie (with E.J. Cudmore) tied for fifth, as did Ruby Cochrane with Sophie Hancock.
