Got hurt in the spring game, hasn't been practicing much. One of the lowest-rated recruits in the '18 class.

Thanks. For some reason, I thought he was rated highly. Reviewing his 247 profile, I see I was wrong about that.

See if he can play safety. After all the Orioles goofed on Yaz the Third.

Updated chart to reflect declared starters for Northwestern. (To be specific, marked Pryts, Hattis, and Williamson as starters over Beecher, Powell, and Head, respectively.)

I also switched Brycen Tremayne (what a great name) to scholarship. Congrats, Brycen!

-m.

Bobbbbb and I are wondering if he is related to one of the great character/voice actors of Hollywood, Les. Played the general in the original, and best, War of the Worlds.

Stanford/Northwestern Frosh Force -
Langdude - 09-03-2019
Frosh Force. Six true freshmen played against the Wildcats.
- WR Elijah Higgins saw some action, presumably on ST given the depth of that position. He must be really good if coaches are considering burning his shirt, because we have a lot of WRs. Then again, we seem to play one true frosh WR every year. Last year it was Michael Wilson, the year before that, Connor Wedington, and the year before that, Donald Stewart.
- RB Austin Jones got some PT, carrying the ball once for one yard. Not sure if he played any snaps other than that carry, or if he played ST. Cool to see that they think he is good enough to contribute. Would love to see lots of good RBs.
- CB Kyu Blu Kelly played; recording a tackle. On schedule, Duane Akina played a true frosh CB from the jump. Kyu Blu played on STs, but also got in the game on defense toward the end. Looks like he must be the best of the (sizeable) bunch of frosh CBs.
- S Jonathan McGill also played, and also recorded a tackle. Not sure if he got in on defense or only on ST. We need safeties, so glad to see this development.
- T Walter Rouse came in to play at LT when Walker Little went down. He seemed to do just fine, thank you very much. Think of that - a true freshman left tackle thrust into a close game in the fourth quarter to protect the QB's blind side across from an NFL-bound defensive end in his first collegiate game! Wow. Not sure if he appeared in the game before that moment or not.
- P Ryan Sanborn, a walk-on, was chosen to be the team's punter over Alex Gracey (and, I believe, Collin Riccitelli). He had five punts for a sub-par 32.6 yard average. His first punt was downed inside the 20, but he also kicked one into the endzone. Here's hoping he improves.
Note: The participation report, which is not always reliable, marked freshman RB Nathaniel Peat as having played, but it seem that he did not; apparently, there was some confusion, given that he has the same number as Jonathan McGill, who did play.

Awesome Lang. Thanks for doing this. Priceless
Stanford/Northwestern Walk-On Union Watch -
Langdude - 09-04-2019
Walk-On Union Watch. Five non-scholarship players got PT against the Wildcats.
- P Alex Gracey. Sophomore. He served as the holder for field goals and extra points. This was Gracey's first appearance in a game in his Stanford career. Looks like he could have handled the missed FG a bit better. It is not uncommon for punters to be holders because they are used to handling long snaps. But I am surprised it is Gracey and not Sanborn or one of the backup QBs (which allows for a fake). Perhaps this was a consolation prize for Gracey when Sanborn won the punter job.
- OLB Thunder Justice Keck. Junior. Played on STs. He played in 11 games last year, so he is clearly a valuable player.
- TE Kyle McCombs. Junior. He played in one game last year. The used him as a blocking TE in those 3-TE sets.
- OLB Caleb Phillips. Junior. He played on goal line defense, which is a mark of confidence by the coaches. Caleb played in three games last year.
- P Ryan Sanborn. Freshman. In Stanford football history, has a true freshman walk-on ever started, let alone in his first collegiate game? Probably. But I wonder how long it has been... I am guessing Sanborn will get a scholie sooner than later.
In addition...
- ILB Ryan Beecher, a fifth-year former walk-on, played on STs, but did not record any tackles.
- S J.J. Parson, a senior former walk-on, was the starting nickel back. He had two tackles (and a costly PI). I guess we have our answer concerning who our nickel is, at least for now.
- WR Brycen Tremayne, a sophomore former walk-on, played quite a bit at WR. Incredible to go from walk-on to getting significant playing time at a stacked position. This was his first Stanford game appearance.
- S Noah Williams, a junior former walk-on, played on STs. His name was not listed on the participation report, however (h/t to SMF for noting his play).

Comments on who played what:
Kyu Blu Kelly played STs (was held EGREGIOUSLY on NW's long punt return in the 4th) as well as some defense.
Nathaniel Peat didn't play. Jonathan McGill has the same number. McGill played on kickoff team and had a tackle.
Thunder Keck played on STs.
Kyle McCombs came in on a 3TE set while we ground out the clock late in the 4th.
Caleb Phillips had a snap in goal line defense during NW's TD drive. They ran at him and he was mauled by the RT.
Beecher played on STs. Former walk-on Noah Williams also played on STs.

Thanks, SMF. I'll make the changes.
You have keen eyes to notice who did and did not play on special teams! i was just using the participation report...

Made changes for SC game.
Walter Rouse marked as starter, Walker Little as injured.
Also marked Dylan Powell as injured; should have done so for last game, but did not know he was. He is listed on the depth chart, but he is apparently day-to-day.
I left K.J. Costello marked as starter as a means of positive thinking.
Please do let me know if you know of any other injuries.

Thomas Booker is "questionable."

Food for thought...
The NFL has eliminated "probable" as an injury category. Only questionable, doubtful, and out are now permitted.
I don't know if college has followed suit or not, but "questionable" may not mean leaning as much out as it might have in years past.

I wonder if that had anything to do with Harbaugh. As I recall, some years back he listed a large number of his team as "probable" because he sat a regular who didn't make the injury report.
