Wasn't there a thread about our lack of crispness? Seems spot on to me.

I think Adebo is in his own head at this point, and our defensive line is not helping at all. Slovis has all the time in the world, I never thought we'd make it easy for a freshman QB...

Run play... are you kidding me?

Nice.Holding kills another drive.

Slovis: 247 yds, 2 TDs, no ints
FOR THE FIRST HALF!!!
(And a true frosh, 1st time emergency starter)

We get ball to start 2H, so seems Shaw content to go in to half time only down 4.
And.... Holding kills it.

The ref said “just kidding!” Not sure what we are doing here.

Precision coaching decisions.

I mean, it was kind of pointless, but a screen maybe gets you a couple broken tackles and some freakTD. Obviously you worry about something dumb like a fumble, but why not?

If you're going to call a timeout, why let a dozen seconds run off the clock?

Coaches have work to do... that was not impressive considering how we jumped out... we just lost the last 7 drives... FGs not gonna do it...

Loved the play calling early in the game. Then we went into the turtle, with the occasional jump ball. Way to squander a lead and a ton of momentum.

HELTON IS PLAYING WITH NOTHING TO LOSE.
Open the spigots and let his boys fly.
USC put up 320 yards in H1 with a backup QB and EXCELLENT WRs.
Our secondary cannot stop them, and we are getting no pressure on Slovis.
Trojans are marching at will. Down 24-20 at half.

Any ideas on getting pressure... obvs we could send 5/6 but would hope some more complex looks/rolling covergar could confuse Frosh... either way we also need to execute better i.e. tackling less pens....

Looking at the first half stats, we only lead the TOP by margin of
15:20 to 14:40, which is not good when playing a tempo spread offense.
The defense has struggled regardless, but I think the D being on the field
far more tonight than against Northwestern is affecting the performance.

With a D like this against an average offense, how will we fare next week in Florida? Sheesh, we may give up 75,

Interestingly total plays was just 36-33.

SC still being on pace for 72 plays is a lot for their style offense.

Last week they had 78 against Fresno State.

In the second half, we are going to learn how well our guys come together and play as a team rather than a bunch of individuals. That is really what makes a team successful. They have to love each other and play for their team, not themselves. IMO, that is why we tend to beat teams that have better talent.
