Esquer got him to go to Cal! When Esquer came over here, I was curious to see if he would have followed.

Did they ask you guys to announce, because Cal cannot seem to get anybody to announce on their stream!

Just added KZSU plus the Cal stats page to the video webcast. The webcast is about two pitches behind the broadcast which lets me switch to the webcast from work screens when the broadcast signals a worthwhile moment.
Geaux Cardinal!

I am sure they had their reasons. Not sure why they did not walk the bases loaded for the double play. Baker was the winning run and with the base loaded, could have had the infielders back in DP depth and not in. Either way Stanford playing for a tie, with bases loaded, and one out with winning run at second.
Let them in that game. Cal was flat all game, and how does the closer let their 1st baseman get a double to lead the inning. He is hitting in the very low 200's all year, and what 4 hitter gets moved from 4th to second in the lineup?
This is what I am saying, playing down to the level of your competition. Cal down 4-2, they looked done. 2 or 3 insurance runs from that lead would have put them away!
Just an observation, I guess a charity for Cal. Hopefully this will piss them off enough to come out and handle their business!

How the heck do you give up (at one point) eight runs on only three hits?

Another loss today (we lost 9-5). It's a four game series, so if we win tomorrow we will avoid losing our first Pac-12 series.

If pitching does start to pull its head out of you know where..........
Stanford gave them that series!!!!! THEY LET A TEAM ON THE ROPES AND WITH NO CONFIDENCE AND GAVE THEM A WIN YESTERDAY! THEY CAME OUT WITH MORE DRIVE THAN STANFORD DID TODAY!
First hit not until the 4th and that tuned into an 8 run inning??? Really!!!
Tomorrow's game is a non conference game, they lost the series.

Ballbuster is right, the series is over and Cal won. Man I hate typing that. Really tough loss, but if this team has shown one thing, it's the ability to bounce back. So let's beat the Weenies on Monday!

I wish we won every series and every game. I also wish we did nothing but improve through the season on an exponentially increasing line. But I live in the real world. I know that if we fail to do so, it is not because the team didn't put in enough effort or follow their internet followers' absurd declarations about lack of drive and heart. It is fine to admit when we are disappointed and hope for better but the often juvenile declarations about the team's failures add nothing to the discussion and analysis of the team or the season. Also, Beat Cal!
Cheers,
Pete F.

Indeed. As Troy put it earlier in the thread, "the other team is trying to win too". This is especially true in baseball, where fractions of an inch can make the difference between a base clearing double that keeps the rally going and an inning-ending fly out.

I guess you don't understand what it means to be on a team and play at a high level. I guess you don't understand how to read a team and squash a team when they have no heart. I never said this Stanford team didn't have any heart, and yes in the game of baseball anything can happen. Baseball is not like football where you need to be intense to perform. There is a ton on the mental side of the game that comes into play, and sometimes that can fall off like it did this weekend. So maybe your sophisticated assessment and grasp of the real world does not comprehend how to play the game of baseball.
The second game when Stanford went up 4-2 off of Cal miscues, you could see it in Cal's AB's that they were done. They had no sense of urgency and the Stanford pitching staff was doing a good job. The Stanford hitters on the other hand, must have felt that pitching was going to keep this game in hand. Stanford with 2 more runs to make it a 6-2 lead after the 3rd or 4th, would have had this game in hand. Because at that point, this Cal lineup would have folded even more, up until they had hope when a 215 hitter with only 3 HR on the season, made it 4-3 in the 6th or 7th I believe it was. The loss of Friday took the wind our of Cal's sail, you could see it. Maybe you could not see that off of Cal's bush league stream. I guess you had to be there!
Stanford was prepared to win this series. however, the intensity level was not there to complete the task. That is what I am saying. Let's go back to that SJSU game where this team should have blown SJSU out of the water. The at bats against a sub par SJSU pitching staff were not that great. 2 opportunities they had bases loaded in that game and hitters flied out to end the threat. In those times, as a hitter you have to be even more patient to get a good pitch to drive. 7-3, from there, they score more runs. Stanford pitchers could have gone out and pitch to contact and cruise for a win, not take it down to the bottom of the 9th!
Cal was on the ropes going into this weekend playing for a regional birth. Cal still has a tough road with UCLA this weekend and Oregon to finish off the season. I am not sure how much other PAC play you watch, but I have seen Cal play and if you take a look at their stat sheet, their lineup and averages outside of 4 hitters was/is brutal. Their #2 hitter on Sat and Sunday was their #4 hitter in previous games this season who could not hit water with an oar, yet he hits a HR on Sat to put the game at 4-3 and then gets a lead off double to Stanford's closer, putting the tieing run on second with 0 outs. Pitchers cannot let a 215 hitter coming into this weekend look like Mantle! Outside of Beavers, Baker, Selma and Manning they are a subpar lineup with runners in scoring position. Baker is a singles hitter who can turn that into a double with his speed on the base path Cal lost a crucial series the weekend before against ASU and after Friday's loss, well you could see them playing with a puckered you know what. You don't give a team like that hope, you beat them not only on the scoreboard but mentally as well.
I have no doubt Esquer will do a good job of getting this team to move forward and get ready for tonight's game. Cal's mentality is to play good enough to get into a regional. Stanford's mentality is to win the PAC to host a regional, and I am only speculating but I am sure the coaching staff was hoping for play that will get them into a regional this year. I am sure that mindset changed when this team started to win and grow from their 5-11 start last season. A series like this will help them grow, and let's see how they bounce back for tonight's game. Let's hope that there is enough piss and vinegar coursing through this team's veins to show a team like Cal, they are not at their level.
Yes, Troy is right, the other team is trying to win, however, with a team that Stanford has this year, trying to win and actually letting them beat you are 2 different things. Cal on Saturday was trying to win, however Stanford was not trying to put it out of reach either and let Cal beat them! You take that into Sunday as Cal did, and there is your 8 run 4th inning! This is not travel ball, where you play 81 games on a weekend, not really wanting to win, but to show you can play, because travel ball players are playing for themselves! Stanford is playing for the conference, and with their missed series against UW, there is less margin for error.
Oregon did not let a team like Utah win, and Arizona took care of business against UW, both with sweeps. That is living in the real world!
