I really doubt we are done with recruiting. Way too early. I’ll go with the well is running dry

I'm getting nervous about the MB position moving forward 2024 through 2026.  Is there any scenario for Vicini to play in 2024?  It may be time for Hambly to start making some international trips for recruiting.

Anyone that goes to UCLA was clearly not a recruiting priority for us.  I feel the same way about Oregon.  Hard to believe these are players we really wanted.

Before Hazel committed to UCLA you posted that you had watched her multiple times and love her potential.  After her commit you posted with Hazel off the board Stanford should have its sight on one or two other 2025 MBs.

Last season MB Karson Bacon (2018 Senior Ace rank #11) was having trouble breaking into Oregon's starting lineup for a period of time because the coach thought two other MBs were playing better.  I don't follow your comment about Oregon because they have good MBs.

Which 2025 MBs should Stanford be pursuing?  I've heard Taylor Harvey and Zoe Gillen-Malveaux.

RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball - BobK - 06-28-2023

Back to 2024 recruiting. Approximately 45 of the top 50 per Prep Volleyball are committed. The only MBer left is 5-11 or 6-0 ranked # 50.

RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball - Maple Leaf - 06-28-2023

With recruiting for all sports, admissions plays a very significant role.

Thanks BobK, good info.  On Bailey Higgins twitter account she has more retweets about Stanford football than anything else.  She must have a relative who played for Stanford.

RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball - BobK - 06-28-2023

Bailey Higgins is a Florida State commit per a prep dig story. Her brother was a WR for Stanford recently drafted by Miami

Having the game on a Sunday afternoon during football season is not going to get as many viewers as a weekday night on ESPN.

I really like Hazel's potential.  But I am not Kevin Hambly.  It also seems like Hazel felt some pressure to commit early.  While Hazel has a ton of potential it isn't exactly shocking that elite schools wanted to see a bit more.  If she went to Nebraska I would feel like we lost.  UCLA feels a lot more like an evaluation.

BobK's list looks about right.  I don't really agree with the ratings of the South Florida girls but once again that is just me.

I never saw on her Instagram that Alevok visited Stanford. To me that explains all.

But it has been on a Saturday night on ESPN2

Yep.  And several of her visits didn't seem to result in offers.  A good reason not to put your life on IG.

6/15/2023 article in North Platte Telegraph with some of my excerpts:

https://nptelegraph.com/sports/huskers/volleyball/meet-abigail-mullen-who-nebraska-volleyball-hopes-is-its-next-no-1-ranked-recruit/article_c74edfef-59a1-5c71-91a9-fbb7a8ba9d7c.html

PrepVolleyball.com has Mullen as its No. 1 national recruit.

And last weekend, the head coach of nine-time national champion Stanford made a trip to a club tournament in Lawrence, Kansas, where Mullen was playing. NCAA recruiting rules prevented Kevin Hambly from having a recruiting conversation with Mullen, but Mullen knew he was there.

During one match, Hambly watched from near the edge of the court where college coaches stand. For another match, he sat in the first row of the bleachers, even though that’s not the most comfortable spot for a tall person like Hambly.

And they even have a picture of Hambly at the tournament. As BigJohn posted Hambly is a rock star on the club circuit.

Hambly's reaction to the National Championship match being shown on ABC Network:

“The move to ABC is incredible for the sport of women’s volleyball,” said Stanford coach Kevin Hambly, who coached Illinois in the 2011 national-title match and won with Stanford in 2018 and 2019. “This opens us up to every television and streamer in the country.

“The number of potential casual viewers moves to the tens of millions. I know all of the coaches are over the moon with excitement by ABC’s commitment to volleyball.”

Kinney to Minnesota

I was a little surprised by this.  I thought she was going to Nebraska.  Nice recruiting job by Minnesota.

Tribe went 8-2 and took 3rd at JNCs despite coming in ranked 16th.  But I was hearing that "everyone" wanted Kelly even before that.  Not sure that everyone included Stanford FWIW.

Surfside struggled at nationals going 4-4 in the first three days despite coming in ranked 2nd.  Demaria played well though in the match I saw.

If I could have one recruit in this class it would be Harvey.  She looks like just a dominant athlete to me.

I also like Galin-Malveaux.  It is going to be hard to get another big MB to play behind Andrews and Harvey.  She would be a nice get.

Obviously Mullen and Demaria are the two monster recruits.  Both would be great but even one would be brobdingnagian given we just took a very strong class of pin hitters.

RE: Stanford Women’s Volleyball - Softball Fan - 07-08-2023

Hambly can strike out on 2025 OHs and it shouldn't be a problem with Rubin, Blyashov, and Harvey available.   There will be elite OHs in 2026; there is in every class.  I get the feeling Mullen is a long shot.  I haven't read or heard anything about Stanford being her dream school.  It's the same waiting game every year for Stanford WVB fans where no news about a commitment is viewed as good news. FWIW Mullen's older sister (by two years) committed to UCLA as a 2023 setter.

Another 2025 MB is something Stanford really needs.  With Stanford no longer requiring test scores it removes what has been a stumbling block for some potential recruits in the past.

About four weeks until fall camp.  I can't wait.  Hopefully there will be a team scrimmage open to the public.

4.0 GPA attending Palos Verdes high school so Kaci Damaria is the type of student who might view Stanford favorably.  In watching some videos she currently looks a little gangly as a youthful player.   Her hitting technique imo is somewhat unstructured. I would like to see her jump more vertical and less broad jump; also swing her left arm upward when jumping to gain more overall body momentum.

Having said that she looks to me a young player with immense potential.  By August 2025 I expect a more coordinated player showing improved technique.

I would be very happy to see her commitment to Stanford.

FWIW gangly definition: tall and thin and moving with a loose-jointed awkwardness.
