As predicted, U$C's #1 QB recruit is going to Georgia.
They now concentrate on Brown.
Do we still have a chance of landing him?
Well, I would still like to think so.
RE: Spring Game -

This is related to the spring game how?
I still think we have a good shot, but it should be noted that with the portal, QBs tend not to finish their careers where they start.

Doing some googling to figure out what this is about, I see it's 2024 Dylan Raiola who picked Georgia over USC, and 2024 Elijah Brown who has both Stanford and USC recruiting him.
I've moved these posts to the class of 2024 recruiting thread instead of the Spring Game thread.

Well, we started talking about how bleak things looked and Brown was mentioned as a player who might help us improve.
The discussion does belong here rather than there.

Fair point. Ultimately given the state of the portal, and Taylor's signing of FIVE(!!!!) transfers, four of which are undergrads including a brand-spanking new QB, it'll always be an open question whether we can simply snag a QB down the line during transfer portal QB musical chairs. I don't expect that to be an issue for another couple years given the battle about to ensue between the young-ish contenders anyways.

These names don’t mean a lot without context like rankings and offers from other suitors. Are these higher end recruits that show Stanford competing for top talent, or lower end guys that demonstrate a program not competing with the upper tier of the sport?

SamuelMcF is the guru on how offer pace and quality compares to past years in Stanford recruiting. I will say that in my view the most important thing in Stanford recruiting right now is the series of official visits that will be happening on campus the rest of this month, starting this weekend, and that on paper the 4-star visitors we have lined up look comparable to what Shaw attracted the last two years and better than most Pac-12 programs. Oregon (the dominant recruiting power right now in the conference considering who they already have committed) and USC (slow start to 2024 recruiting but lots of top visitors lined up) are dominating, but Stanford is very squarely in the second tier with Utah and Washington. On one level that’s not a shock as Stanford, arguably along with UCLA, historically belongs in that tier. But on another it’s pretty notable if Taylor can tread water (or better) in recruiting for a year before even demonstrating a turnaround. And if we get two among Elijah Brown, Benedict Umeh, and Dylan Stephenson, as I think we very well may, one would have to be even more complimentary than that.

USC doesn't need to bother recruiting high school players. They can - and should - just buy players from the transfer portal. Really, same goes for Oregon too. All the other schools on west coast probably need to recruit high school stars to be competitive.

It all seems nice, but it seems like these are all mid- to high-three-stars -- essentially back to the early Harbaugh days, if not worse.

I'm afraid that's about as good as we are going to do, at least until TT shows he can put together a Stanford team that wins football games.
Some of these kids have some pretty decent other offers, at least if you believe 247Sports.

Disagree.
Amazing how early people jump to conclusions.

Well, we have positive news on Elijah Brown. He says he probably won't take his official visit to U$C and now feels it's between Stanford and UCLA. He also says he is close to making a decision and it could be as soon as next week.
Hope you are right on your disagreement.
