I think it is close to impossible to keep a large traveling party with students involved totally COVID free during this Omicron surge. Things may be better in a few weeks but a whole lot of games are going to be postponed and many will never get played. Can't make them all up.
Sure they can. Delay the end of season by a month or even two months. It would mean NCAA & Conference tournaments get delayed, which would require agreement from the venues (which may not be feasible).
My guess is that NCAA & conference people would rather (effectively) lose a third of the season than to delay the tournaments. But it can be delayed two months and still be all done before NCAA baseball wraps up the sports year.
Well yeah, of course they COULD. It would not be easy to schedule but sure, it is doable with the will to do it that way. I was not implying it would not be possible. That is not the issue. They already said they won't, so making up all the games that were missed and will be missed is close to impossible.

Lots of games being postponed or canceled, but some are being played -- one in particular right now -- South Carolina vs Missouri. They are playing at Missouri, 1st SEC conference game for both. At end of 3rd quarter, Missouri up by 2 even though missing their leading scorer/rebounder. Missouri is unranked, not even getting votes in the polls, despite an 11-2 record. (No idea who they's played up to now)
Update on score, at 6:00 in 4th, Missouri up 58-52. And Boston just got her 4th foul.

Wow!
Major upset as unranked Missouri stuns consensus AP #1 South Carolina in OT, 70-69!

Missouri without leading scorer and rebounder

So on Tuesday the #1 team in the country will have three losses.
In the parts of the game I watched it seemed like Boston and South Carolina got a lot of favorable calls.

Amazing ending to the S Carolina /Missouri game. Wow. Even with this loss, S Carolina will still prob be #1, but who knows. At any rate, Missouri will almost certainly appear in the polls after this.

Wow. Incredible win for Missouri without their best player in Blackwell.
Missouri isn’t even the best team in Missouri, having lost to Missouri State.

I don't think we will be #1, nor should we be with three losses. My bet is S. Carolina stays #1 narrowly. I mean, who else has a better overall record? Louisville? Arizona? I guess but neither really seems worthy. If I were voting I'd probably leave S. Carolina at #1. I don't think they are head and shoulders better than the rest, as some pundits have claimed they are, but I do think they are still the team to beat.

The last USC inbound play was with 0.1 second left (tip in only, no catch and shoot). It did appear that the shot, which went in, was a two handed catch and shoot and properly waved off, but the SEC network never showed a replay of what was the most critical play of the game.

"Call me a hater, but Stanford doesn’t deserve to be #1."
Wow! I guess that will end any speculation as to whether Djonai left Stanford with any kind of animosity. And she didn’t wait too long to express her sentiments.
Of course, Djonai's tweet could just be sour grapes from her not being offered a spot on the team last year and thus not getting a National Championship.

Yup. 1, 2, and 3 should stay as is. I can't place Louisville at #2 'cos they just looked SO awful in that game against Arizona.

Boston's first foul was a bad call against her (called for a charge when blocker had a full foot in the circle). But then late in the game, she got the benefit of a pretty clear charge that was called a blocking foul. In balance, because Boston had one more foul that she should have for much of the game, that was a benefit for Missouri.
ESPN (and, indeed PAC-12, etc) should require their announcers to read the rule book and maybe take a class for refs.
There is no travel on a throw-in as the female announcer claimed:
Quote: Rule 7.6.8. The following pertain to a designated spot:
a. The designated spot is the location at which a thrower-in is presented disposal of the ball out of bounds ...
b. The designated spot shall be 3 feet wide with no depth limitation.
c. The thrower-in must keep one foot on or over the designated spot until the ball is released. Pivot foot restrictions and the traveling rule are not in effect for a throw-in.
d. The thrower-in shall not leave the designated spot until they have released the ball and the thrown-in ball crosses the plane of the sideline or end line.
Then the male announcer claimed that you couldn't score with 0.2 seconds or less (which is wrong). They put the correct rule up in a graphic, but he continued his claim.
Quote:Art. 19. In any quarter or overtime, when the game clock displays tenths of seconds and play is to be resumed by a throw-in or a free throw when 3/10ths (.3) of a second or less remains on the game clock, a player may not gain control of the ball and attempt a try for a field goal. Such player can only score a field goal by means of a tap of a pass or of a missed free throw.
So Boston could have scored had she tapped the ball rather than catch & shoot. The pass was too low for that.
If were the coach in that situation, I would put my best 3pt shooter to throw the ball in (just inside the half court) by having her shoot at the goal, with my tall players on either side of the basket, to tip it in. (Remember, the clock doesn't start until an inbound player touches it. It could bounce a couple of times without the clock starting. Also, it is throw-in violation if the throw-in goes into the basket.)
Missouri was down 5 players (including a double-double starter), with only 8 available, and only 7 available for the last 14 seconds.

What a great article on Lauren BETTS!
I'm really curious and intrigued to see how Tara will use her during her freshman year at Stanford, considering that they will still have 4 upperclassman post players in seniors BELIBI and PRECHTEL, junior BRINK, and sophomore IRIAFEN ahead of her.

Or maybe she is just saying something that many people on this board, myself included, believe. The “rule” that if the #1 team loses they should be dropped down the rankings is silly, and if there ever were a time to ignore it, it’s when said #1 beat the team that would ascend to #1 just a week earlier.
