I sure hope the projected Nov. exhibition game is not against a Div. II team, like it was last season. I can appreciate the fact that the scheduling process can be challenging and perhaps Tara might have wanted a non-conference game against a worthy opponent, but oftentimes things don't work out.
I'm guessing that part of the challenge may be that there are not a lot of power five schools or even excellent mid-majors that would prefer not playing at Maples so early in the season. We all recall several seasons ago we played exhibitions against a highly-rated Chinese University team (we defeated) and before that, members of the U.S. National team (who we gave a good account of ourselves). Those were good measuring sticks on where our team stood before the beginning of the season.
Last season's exhibition was so lopsided that it did nothing to help prepare us for Texas, two games later. I'll keep my fingers crossed that this exhibition game has value.

Pete Carril has passed. Pete was the father of the Princeton Offense. Recently Tara and Stanford have used the Princeton Offense with success. Pete, nicknamed Yoda by the students, was a great coach and will be missed.

Regarding the 2022 Thanksgiving Rainbow Wahini women's tournament in Hawaii, does anyone know who (other than Stanford and Hawaii), those other two teams are by looking at the logos on the top of the Stanford WBB Facebook post?

Looks like Grambling (14-17 last year) and Florida Gulf Coast (30-3, with the last loss coming against Maryland in the NCAA tourney)

Not at all. I assumed there were only 4 team. The other two teams on the FB page represent GRAMBLING AND NORTH TEXAS. I believe FGCU is in a different tournament, but I will double check t heir website. If this indeed is correct: Hawaii, Stanford, Grambling and North Texas, I find it disappointing that no other strong power five school will be there.
Are you planning to go? My wife and I are. Hope we get decent fan representation like we did last season in the Bahamas.

Absolutely not. You are right about FGCU and Grambling, but North Texas State (who I thought was another team) will not be there. So it looks like a 4 team tourney. Hawaii, Stanford, Grambling and FGCU. FGCU and Stanford are Nov. 25th.

I did some checking and re-checking. The teams (so far) are: Hawaii, Stanford, Grambling, North Texas State and FGCU - a team we have played twice. There might be a 6th. team to make it even, but I don't know who that might be.

I don't see North Texas anywhere. Grambling, FGCU, Stanford, Hawaii are the teams. This is also a duplicate thread and needs to be taken down. The schedule has been repeatedly discussed on the other WBB 2022/2023 thread.

Although we've handled FGCU in the past, they still present a scary team with their unique brand of BB. Lay-ups and 3-pointers. They have no size inside, but the challenge has always been their ball movement and screening action. I hope our guards can pressure their perimeter players.
Karl Smesko has turned down several coaching offers from power five schools, including USC. He is a master strategist.

My immediate thought is that FGCU is a good test for a team that’s seeking a guard to feed to the posts. Tishara Morehouse was a fantastic complement to Kierstan Bell last year and Uju Ezeudu who was on the all summit league team last year, will be a curious undersized post against our tall trees. I wonder if that’s Tara’s thinking behind the schedule is to have a weaker schedule so that she can develop Nivar, Lepolo, Harriel, or others to be ready for Haley Jones’ senior year march to the ship.

No matter what season it is and no matter who is on FGCU's roster, Karl will have his team ready to give us a good fight. I'm always nervous about playing them. Until the entire non-conference schedule is revealed, I'm not ready to say it's weaker (yet) when you factor in South Carolina, Tennessee, Gonzaga and Creighton. I'm predicting that either Nivar, Lepolo or Harriel will be in the starting backcourt.

If you're right on that prediction re the backcourt, and I hope you are, that would mean Tara is not fully relying on Jones to be the pg, which would be a good thing because it frees her up to do so much more.

Kiki played extremely well for us in several games and agree, she has much potential. With Brink being moved to power forward, one would think Tara will give Kiki a lot more playing time. Much depends on the development of Betts who (many of us agree) is a program changer. Then throw seasoned Belibi and Prechtel- two more post players and you can understand Tara's challenge.
Wherever Kiki fits into the rotation, I hope we don't juggle starting lineups depending on who our opponents are. My guess is that Tara will start either Fran or Ashten with Kiki coming in early off the bench, but who knows what will develop during Fall practice.

I think a pre-PAC 12 schedule vs. two Top 5 (South Carolina and Tennessee) and three borderline Top 25 teams
(Creighton, Gonzaga and FGCU) is about right for a very good Stanford team which is very good at all positions
EXCEPT obviously at PG.
And speaking of Tennessee, I just checked their current roster and they are STACKED with very good talent
including:

Jillian HOLLINGSHEAD 6'5 ESPN #35 overall in 2021
Justine PISSOTT 6'4 ESPN #11 overall in 2022
Jasmine FRANKLIN 6'1 (led Missouri State last season - 14.9 ppg, 12.1 rpg, 2.4 bpg)
Sara PUCKETT 6'2 ESPN #45 overall in 2021
and two very good PGs:
Jasmine POWELL 5'6
