A writer for the New York Post claims that the Giants were "elated" about the result of Judge's visit. The writer goes on to say that the Yankees were still in the lead, and the Giants didn't do enough to dent the Yankees. Article says that the idea that Judge would be swayed by a hometown team is specious because Judge's hometown of Linden is "two hours away" from SF (actually about an hour and a half). Didn't say anything about Judge having a poster of Buster Posey when he was a kid.
Giants, Dodgers face hurdles in Aaron Judge pursuit (nypost.com)
Says he will visit Dodgers as well, but the Dodgers are trying to slim down their payroll.

I don't believe "2 hours from home" in any way earmarks Judge to the Giants, but to suggest this proximity to home vs. a 6 hour flight and 2 hour drive wouldn't be meaningful to someone wanting to be closer to home, is just silly and wrecks the writers's credibility.
I didn't know there was only one Gold Glove awarded per position out of all levels of the minor leagues. So kind of a big deal for the Giants to get 2 such players winning a MiLB Gold Glove. Could Casey Schmitt be the opening day Third Baseman, given he can also hit?

Waiting for Judge to sign. Probably Yankees. He’s the biggest whale. Once he signs, I think the activity for the SS’s and other top tier FA’s will move rather quickly. I think he sets the tone market wise.

Just thinking of Krys Bryant, another very tall, long (6'5") slugger who turned 30 last year...and his $18 million for 14 RBIs on the season for Colorado. Bryant will make $168 million in the next six seasons for Colorado.

Not in the same league as Judge. Bryant’s numbers had dropped. He wasn’t coming off a monster season. Far from it. He’d had a good first half with Cubs, but dropped off second hal with Giants. Then he got hurt in ‘22. Everyone knew the Rockies grossly overpaid. Kind of like when Giants signed Zito.

Gaylord was a favorite of mine and my dad's when we were shooting commercials and promotional films for the Giants. Spent a couple of days at his folks' farm outside Williamston, NC. Gaylord ragged on me for four years because of my Fu Manchu and long hair. I finally made a bet with him and ended up having him cut off my hair in thy Giants clubhouse. I still have film of it.
A gentleman with absolutely no airs.
I finally can say that before he warmed up he put grease all over his body and he sweat like a maniac. That's what he used to doctor the ball. He wouldn't get away with it today.
Charlie Fox didn't like him and had been in love with Sam McDowell since he scouted him in high school. The Giants didn't do their homework (McDowell was a drunk) and made the worst trade in their history.
Gaylord lost his first wife, the beautiful Blanche, to a car accident. Tough on everybody.

Gaylord was a favorite of mine and my dad's when we were shooting commercials and promotional films for the Giants. Spent a couple of days at his folks' farm outside Williamston, NC. Gaylord ragged on me for four years because of my Fu Manchu and long hair. I finally made a bet with him and ended up having him cut off my hair in thy Giants clubhouse. I still have film of it.

Thanks, Phogge. I have heard that Stoneham made this deal with Bardelli’s at the bar. Don’t know if it’s true. Loved Bardelli’s and Vanessi’s. Miss them both.

Bardelli’s was THE press bar in the 50’s. Newsreel guys especially along with the newspaper crowd. The local still photographers went to bars below Market. I preferred the place (can’t think of the name) on the alley next to the Examiner. Late 60’s, 70’s. Salty Dogs for a quarter. Long bar.
Other long gone SF bars were Jimmy’s on 30th Street, the Pub across from Sears on Burial Hill and My House on Balboa. Used to look at the Racing Form on Friday nights at the Marina Lounge. Outstanding female clientele.
