Kate Koval who was recently at Stanford will be playing on espn2 tomorrow at about 7am pdt in the national championship game. In the semis I’m told by a friend she had 38 points and 16 rebounds

long island lutheran loses to monteverde of florida in a big 2nd half comeback. i can't find a box score, but south carolina commit, sahnya jah, was the top scorer at 20 pts, and kate koval was not one of those mentioned as scoring in double figures. LI lutheran was 5/6 from 3 in the first quarter and 0 for 11 in the next 3.

Koval picked up 2 fouls in the first quarter. This limited her minutes and effectiveness. I like her game. Are we on the top of her list?

I think we are definitely in the running for her. She has visited twice I believe, which is encouraging. But she hasn't publicly said much in any direction. Her last visit was in February, along with Jordan Lee and Shay Ijiwoye (guard from AZ).
Quick video of two commits against each other: Courtney Ogden and Hailee Swain (25). Ogden is 40 on green and Swain 2 in white. Ogden using her size a bit more and looks comfortable with contact. Swain has a nice outside shot, leftie that also can drive.

I saw a tweet about a recent USA Basketball Women's Junior National Team minicamp which had some 2024 player of interest invited (Edwards, Thomas). They also interviewed 2026 6'1 guard Jacy Abii from Texas. She's on Hoopgurlz's 2026 list (they are not ranked at the moment). And she can dunk. I read an article where she is quoted as saying "I started getting recruited in seventh grade, and I think the first school was Stanford".

Morgan Cheli commits to UConn. Not surprising since she visited them recently and follows and likes all their social media posts. However, right in our backyard and someone I knew we were interested in so somewhat of a missed opportunity.

I liken her skill set to Notre Dame's Sonia CITRON.

UCLA picks up 2024 Kendall Dudley. She was Kiki Rice's high school teammate at Sidwell in DC and at one point on Stanford's radar. Ranks as the #13 recruit in the 2024 class.

So with Betts going, we suddenly get really thin in the post. sigh. I hate the transfer portal since it's pretty much one-way out.

In the past, I've followed recruiting closely, excited when a top recruit committed to Stanford, and assumed this was great because I'd get to see this player develop over four years. Now??? With three WBB Stanford players now in the portal, including two of this year's highly rated freshmen, I'm starting to have less interest. If a player commits, joins the team and then leaves after only a year, was she ever really a part of the Stanford WBB story? I think the team may lose fans because of what's happening, not just players. A potential side effect, and with our waning fan base, this is another problem.

I might be one of those fans.
I have followed Stanford sports for a long time. However, I really don't like the transfer portal and NIL. I am old school and support the Student Athlete concept, which seems to be fading...I "may" be fading also. Hard to believe I said that...time will tell.

We wish we had been able to get Cheli. I think she is really special and is going to do great things. I don’t think she will be #17 in her class when she is done. She has some intangibles and a fight, and she keeps getting better each year.
