RE: WBB: Rainbow Wahine Showdown - JJJ - 11-26-2022

Bosgana is quickly becoming my new fave player. A little Andy Fischer-esque (I know this may not mean anything to most) but smoother.

Prechtel looked fine. 4Q had many players I’d never seen. I think Betts just needs to see more baskets fall through the net. Has the potential to be a tremendous presence down low. Oddly, her super flat free throws drop but when she puts some arc in them, they rimmed out.

That pretty well sorts out who should be shooting 3s.  Prechtel and Bosgana went 4 for 5.  Fantastic!

I've seen Prechtel cold an Demetre hot. She's an excellent shooter..Any given day. Demetre can only defend certain players. That's her main limitation.

Yes, don't use a one game sample size to settle who should and shouldn't be shooting three pointers.

True.  Good point.

According to ThatSportsLife.com:  "A good 3-point percentage in college basketball is above 35% and an elite percentage is anything over 40%."

Here are the season stats for 3pt % (attempts):

Jump -- 52.3 (44)
Nivar -- 42.9 (14)
Emma-N -- 42.9 (7)
Demetre -- 41.2 (17)
Prechtel -- 40 (15)
Harriel -- 37.5 (8)
Brink -- 36.4 (11)
Bosgana -- 35.0 (20)
Lepolo -- 28.6 (7)
Jones -- 10.0 (10)
TEAM -- 39.5 (157)

Using this measure, we have five "elite" and two "good" 3pt shooters on this team so far this season.  As a team, we are very close to "elite."

Given how good Jones is in the paint, we probably don't want her shooting 3s unless she is wide open.

RE: WBB: Rainbow Wahine Showdown - WBB fan - 11-26-2022

I sort of watched the Hawaii/FGCU on ESPN+, just over with FGCU winning 63-50. But the reason I'm writing this is about the broadcast, not the result. Both of the ESPN+ games in this "Showdown" included Hawaii. And the audio appears to be the Hawaii play-by-play announcer from their radio broadcasts since he was identifying the audio as coming from the radio station. Bottom line, if this is the case tomorrow, we're going to be hearing a real homer version of what's going on. The play-by-play description for today's game was very strongly focused on what Hawaii was doing. The best thing I can say about it was that the commentary was fully in sync with the video.

Agnes looks to be 33% and Nivar 31% from 3

RE: WBB: Rainbow Wahine Showdown - BostonCard - 11-26-2022

The confidence interval on Jump’s three point shooting is 37% to 68%.
The confidence interval on Demetre’s is 18% to 67%.

Which is to say, small sample sizes.

I took the numbers from the same source, but I think today's game had not yet been added when I pulled the numbers.

So, after today's game, we have two "elite" 3 point shooters (Jump and Prechtel) and three "good" 3 point shooters (Bosgana, Demetre, and Brink).  As a team, we are at 39.3.

RE: WBB: Rainbow Wahine Showdown - Card10Fan - 11-26-2022

Hannah Jump is currently on record breaking pace. The most three pointers made in a season is 96 tied by both Jeanette Pohlen and Karlie Samuelson.
Jump has made 28 through 8 games well on record breaking pace. For some context, Bosgana has 9 made three pointers on the season and she's second most after Jump. What tremendous shooting by Hannah Jump! Hope it continues and records are broken!

I wonder if Kevin Danna will be doing audio for Stanford again.  If so I'll try putting that on while watching the video.

If he is, that might be a lot better!

Baez87 - Baez87 - 11-26-2022

Rumor from Wahine: Jump and Belibi both plan to return to play basketball at Stanford next year! Of course, there are lots of “ifs” in a season, so who knows what will eventually transpire, but that does give us something to chew on until final decisions are made.
Watching our women play in Hawaii in the last two days has had both entertaining and eye-opening value. Our opposition might not have been elite, but they have fought hard — they are playing for pride and a place on their teams! So, in complimenting our second team, I make no apologies for the level of play of the opposition. Yesterday, Jzaniya played her best game of the season and today she looked pretty good playing point guard. At times , in the past two games, it seemed as though our second team scored more fluidly that the starters! Betts might put the ball on the floor almost every time she gets a pass or a rebound, but she still manages to score. The coaches will wean her off this rookie habit as the season progresses, and eventually she will earn her way onto the starting team — and into the hearts of fans.
Also… big kudos to Agnes who, in spite of her being relegated to the middle of the pack is showing perseverance and improvement. She is a valuable member of the team. Likewise, Indya Nivar, who is quietly becoming a competent and confident player. And, many of you have seen and spoken of the development of Elena. When I compliment these players, I’m not necessarily talking statistics, I talking about floor presence!
What a team that Tara and the coaches have assembled! And we fans are the beneficiaries!

RE: WBB: Rainbow Wahine Showdown - martyup - 11-26-2022

Thanks for the first hand report Baez.  Stats and a crappy audio broadcast just don't tell the whole story.

In game one it was Tim Swartz, not Kevin Danna I think.  I sometimes get the two mixed up.  Was it Danna in game 2?

Great insight. Thank you for sharing. Would be wonderful if Jump and Belibi both returned.

I very much hope Belibi and Jump return for next year.  Appreciate the info about how the players are developing.

Swartz called both games. Danna is working G League basketball. Check their feeds on twitter.

Great to hear! I'd been wondering if they might both return since we lost out on both Hidalgo and Watkins. And makes sense for Fran, who likely needs a 5th year for pre-med requirements.
