I think you are correct. Before the game several of the Kal players were woofing (at a minimum) at the Stanford team, who did not respond (much). I expect there was some residual anger there. I don't recall the details but in a previous Big Game a player was ejected before the game even started for such conduct. This isn't a new problem. One would hope both teams would be getting ready to actually play the football game where they can demonstrate their superiority by actually playing football :-). Fortunately Kal elected not to do that.

Lineal - THE HATCH RANKINGS
Naturally we should enjoy it for all it's worth, because it's only going to last a week.
That's pretty cool! And it will last longer than a week as Mick has guaranteed it.

Like the Lineal National Championship. Transitive property on steroids. Next on the list are the Irish. They could hold it for a minute.
Cool list. Crazy that this Stanford team is on it and crazier that they stole the title from schizophrenic Cal. The 1982 championship you reference was when Elway and Company beat Ohio State, who beat Michigan, who beat Minnesota, who beat Iowa, who beat UCLA, who beat Wisconsin, who beat the defending national champion Michigan. At one point in 1981 Michigan wrested the title away from itself.
In 1982, Stanford held the title for two weeks. If they pull the miracle on Saturday, they can hold the title for 9 months.
Prior to 1982, Stanford had the belt in 1970, 1940, and 1934. Some illustrious names on the list, like Carnegie Tech, Muhlenberg, St. Mary's, Swarthmore, and West Virginia Wesleyan. Most recent football "who?" might be Wichita State in 1936.

I highly doubt any football player is intimidated by a student section. :-) I'm pretty sure the decision to move the students and the Band to the corner around the tunnel was completely for TV purposes.
I feel Luck mentioned something like it in his email explaining decision. I'm not saying it will work, mind you, but that was part of their thinking. And probably gets the students louder if they think they're having an effect.
