Hard to imagine she'd sign a new deal and then announce leaving shortly after. No insider info, just nothing she announced the partnership, but I take that as good news about her staying for next year (at least, I am hoping!!)
Yeah, I suspect this was part of a deal that was set up to keep her around.

However I sure we all wonder if another of our top 6 leaves why stay
Another worry how much can we pay to keep players. I am thrown by this because we raised (I’m a very small timer) much more than was spent this season
You never know for sure until the portal closes, but Bob confirmed that Somfai is staying.

Alex Hou runs an active Twitter/X account, Stanford Football Updates. He's been able to score an interview with new HC Tavita Pritchard, fwiw.
Anyway, he posted yesterday some criticism of WBB, seemingly from the player perspective.
For those who don't want to click, this is what caught my eye:
Quote:Also, why are there restrictive course limits set on the women’s basketball players? Why are the players given low food stipends for lunch? Please John Donahoe, please fix this. None of this is on the players.

Just read the Stanford Football Updates X account comments on SWBB.
100% accurate.
NIL has been a convenient excuse for players leaving in the past. Not any more.
Stanford has choice to make. Either keep the coaching staff or keep the players.

This is a great resource! Thanks for maintaining and sharing it. Practically speaking, this year's 15-person roster was effectively closer to 9, sometimes 10, in reality, with Green and Papadaki unable to compete at this level, Lepolo and Umeh almost constantly injured, and Agara and Peterson seemingly substantially injured. Having 11 players with the ability to contribute could actually be an upgrade, although losing Nunu's productivity (when she was able to play) is a big loss. I'm torn because I always want my Cardinal to do great every year, but I also realize that they can't compete in this era if they don't gain more admission flexibility and a commitment to paying at or above market to bring in stud players in whatever undergraduate or graduate major they want, even if the rigid admissions rules say it's too late. So maybe they must hit true rock bottom to force our administrators to give up some of the arrogant red tape we impose on athletes, compared to other schools. If they could throw tons of money to keep the remaining players and to get Audi Crooks, regardless of admission administrator hurdles, they could still have something.

What does this mean in regards to the WBB team? I just don’t like the negativity surrounding the program, the anxiety of who’s leaving, or what’s going on with the coaching. I always wanted Kate to succeed, but it’s disappointing reading what we’re reading. I had heard about 4 to 5 potential portal entries and we have 3 for sure and the possibility of Amborn. I really hope that’s it. I also hope it’s a wake up call to the coaches and administration. This can’t be the reputation of SWBB every season. My hope is we get Alex, Lara, and Hailee back with the great freshman to sophomore leap along with Courtney and Chloe or Shay at the point guard position, think they can really win some games and hopefully climb us out of this whole. It’s a lot of pressure, but hope they play with joy and desire and not with pressure. Same for the coaches. They need to focus on the sisterhood, leading the team in a much better way, and less about the pressure to win.

Harper's transfer announcement notably thanks just about everyone except the coaches. And she finishes by saying she hopes to find a home that "will challenge [her] on and off the court while valuing [her] for who [she is]." I haven't read too many transfer announcements like this, declaring what they're looking for as an indication of what they didn't get. Sigh.

Not a total surprise, but this hurts.
Yes. I thought she was our best all around player this year.
It wasn't even close.
I disagree. I like Nunus game and I like what I know about her as a person. She has earned our respect. But Ogden was the best player on our team for the last half.Nunu s injuries, being forced to play out of position where she is simply too small to play the five and her inability to hit shots in the clutch contrast remarkably with Ogden who grew and grew and grew. I will miss NuNu and wish her well . But Ogden is our best player .
I agree. Really liked Agara but she struggled as the primary option in big games. She was too small to score against good defenders with size in the post and opponents wanted / dared her to shoot from outside which she did at a 19% rate. I’d like to see Eschmeyer in the post where she has the size to shoot over defenders and I think she’s a better 3 point shooter who hopefully will draw out the defense to give Swain some driving lanes. I was hopeful that the Somfai, Eschmeyer and Agara lineup
would work but Agara at the perimeter just meant her defender would camp out in the lane and muck things up for anyone in the post or driving.
Unless coach Paye (if she stays) fundamentally changes her offensive schemes (more inside/out), where Eschmeyer gets quality touches, nothing much is going to change in 2026-27.
