Not quite a walk off pennant clinching walk. (1999 NLCS)

I believe the actual quote was:

Quote:You hear that Mr. Anderson?... That is the sound of inevitability... It is the sound of your death... Goodbye, Mr. Anderson...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x5m1A7zoIcc

But, more ominously, we find out that the inevitable doesn't happen to Mr. Anderson (Neo).

So, probably not the best movie analogy to use (I hope).

That's what I get for botching a 16-year old movie quote.  I stand corrected!

Re: Directors Cupdate - BobK - 06-01-2015

In T&F UCLA qualified 7 men and Stanford 4.  UCLA women with 4 and Stanford with 9( 2 on the 4 x 400 relay, 7 indiviuals

Re: Directors Cupdate - terry - 06-01-2015

UCLA and U'S'C both finished in the top 8 in men's golf and qualified for the match play competition. UCLA finished 8th and will face the top qualifier, Illinois. U'S'C was fifth and will face Texas.

I'm pulling for the rest of the field. I don't want UCLA or U'S'C to add to their national title totals.

Go Danielson!  (Illinois)  Go Horns!  Beat $C again!

Re: Directors Cupdate - IT'S (OFFICIALLY) OVER - terry - 06-01-2015

UCLA was the #1 overall seed in baseball. I expect they probably had national championship ambitions. It's a little surprising to see them eliminated in their own regional.

That, for those of you who can see emoji (I'm guessing those on a Mac) is the world's tiniest violin.

😢

And that's me shedding a single tear for UCLA baseball.

What a year for Stanford athletics! :)

Re: Directors Cupdate - IT'S (OFFICIALLY) OVER - Hulk01 - 06-02-2015

If Casey's brother gets his groove back, I'd guess UCLA's run in golf ends in a few hours.  That's a terrific Illinois team, at least comparable to the Cal team that dominated college golf three years ago--utterly-and then had to prove it over three days of match play.

Re: Directors Cupdate - IT'S (OFFICIALLY) OVER - BigEasyCard - 06-13-2015

The Cup stays on the Farm!

Edit: This is old news to many, as VG called it on June 1.

Latest standings here:

http://www.nacda.com/directorscup/nacda-directorscup-current-scoring.html

Looks like they are counting more than 20 sports in Stanford's number.  Did not check the others.

With only Women's OTF remaining for both Stanford and UCLA, I calculate following totals based on Top 10 finishes for each school:

    Stanford UCLA   Difference
Men         642.00 569.25         72.75
Women 805.50 666.75       138.75
Total       1,447.50 1,236.00       211.50

Geaux Cardinal!

The conference did very well. http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/nacda/sports/directorscup/auto_pdf/2014-15/misc_non_event/1415DIJune11.pdf

And success at the OTF Championships in Eugene will push Oregon and USC further up the list.  Possible four or even five Pac 12 schools in Top 10.

Geaux Cardinal!

Now that Virginia has won the CWS, do any of you have an estimate for the final standings?  Thanks in advance and thanks to those in the know for keeping us informed.

Per the NACDA website, the final standings will be published today or tomorrow.

Re: Directors Cupdate - IT'S (OFFICIALLY) OVER - Farm93 - 06-25-2015

I love that the final standings were listed as 25th or 26th.

In my eyes that more or less reads like, "If the standings are close we will get them out ASAP, but if Stanford wins early (AGAIN) then we will issue that "Who Cares" final standings at some point that week.  Glad to see the final cup results are apparently a rather low priority again this year.

Given the baseball results Stanford will be #1, UCLA will be #2, USC should be #3, Florida will be #4 and UVa will zip up to #5.  UCLA & USC will add 50 points to their tally.  Florida will get 83 points and UVa will get 100 points.  For the baseball additions I did not factor in any lost points for bumping into the 10 sport cap.

All of the programs in the top 5 have finished in the top 5 fairly frequently, so I doubt any of the other top 5 schools will do very much to promote their cup accomplishments this year.

Re: Directors Cupdate - IT'S (OFFICIALLY) OVER - yvonne - 06-25-2015

I'm sure that Pac-12 will trumpet the sweep.

I can see schools with repeated top 10 finishes "For the x time in y years, our university has finished in the top 10 in the Learfield Director's Cup." Other schools could tout their rise in the cup standings over the previous year.

Re: Directors Cupdate - IT'S (OFFICIALLY) OVER - TrumpCard - 06-26-2015

Press release:
http://www.nacda.com/sports/directorscup/spec-rel/062515aab.html

I note that the press release highlights the SEC's achievement of getting 7 teams in the top 25, but does not mention that the Pac-12 swept the podium.  Also, the press release does not mention that the Pac-12 won the most national championships (9), whereas the SEC finished fourth (5).

Re: Directors Cupdate - IT'S (OFFICIALLY) OVER - BostonCard - 06-26-2015

Pac-12 already trumpeted it's 9 national championships:

http://pac-12.com/article/2015/06/25/pac-12-leads-nation-nine-ncaa-titles

Note, for the academic year, we gained one on UCLA, and put 2 between us and USC.  So, all in all, a productive year.

Re: Directors Cupdate - IT'S (OFFICIALLY) OVER - TrumpCard - 06-26-2015

Of course the Pac-12 trumpeted its own accomplishment, but the Pac-12 also deserves more recognition in the NACDA press release.  I do not understand any reason for the NACDA to trumpet anything about the SEC's accomplishments this year.

p.s. Thanks for the correction on the stats for championships by conference.
