Not Larry Baer, but Corry is eligible to be selected.
I think you mentioned it - Giants simply betting he’s too far away to stick with an MLB team for a year. A walk an inning…. Still if you are the Orioles why not take a flyer?

You are right, he’s not ready. But why not? This in not Jacksonville, Chicago or the Jets. Niners have a lot of talent. So it’s more like NE. They turned it over to a rookie and are doing fine. If the Niners turned it over to Lance day one, do you think they’d be worse than 6-6? I don’t.

We'll have to disagree on this one. Mac Jones has a lower ceiling but he came in extremely well prepared to play in an NFL system and to run through the reads that New England requires; Lance was and is much more raw as a quarterback. I don't think the 49ers would be 6-6 with him.

After 12 games, here are ESPN's QB Ratings for Jimmy G and the rookie QBs drafted in first three rounds:
11. Jimmy Garoppolo, 56.5
14. Mac Jones, 52.7
28. Trevor Lawrence, 33.8
30. Davis Mills, 30.2
31. Justin Fields, 25.9
32. Zach Wilson, 24.9
Lance (39.8, would rank #26 if he had enough snaps). Mond and Trask have no stats.
Everyone says how Mac Jones was the poorest athlete, lowest ceiling, etc. Looks pretty good right now. Reminds me of a video I saw of Kobe Bryant describing Steve Nash as a point guard. Kobe said "He's not a great athlete, but he's good enough. He's not a great defender, but he's good enough. And he has world class vision, he's a great shooter and he always finds the open guy." Sounds like Mac Jones.

Farhan is really good on the team friendly K's. I hope he spends some of the savings on a big time right handed hitter. They are minus both Posey and Chris, leaving Longoria, Casali, Bart(?), Ruf, Solano, Flores, Slater, and the second half call up whom I like who can play many positions. Longoria will probably be injured 1/3 of the season, so that's not a very formidable group. Did I miss anybody?

I'm being a little unfair. DeBerg was 53-86-1 as a starting quarterback. Garoppolo is 30-12. Slight difference.

No. But I think Slater, Ruf, Solano and Flores are poised for big years. But I wouldn't be broken-hearted if they added Castellanos.

Agree DC. We know he's very raw having played two (?)seasons of non power league fb. He hasn't seen varied defenses manned by terrific players, usually threw to wide open receivers, etc. I think his limited SF appearances demonstrate that fact. Niners are still trying for the playoffs and I think JG has a better chance of leading them there. Besides, the women in my family actually watch fb when Jimmy is playing.

Big years based on what, a wish and a prayer? Castellanos isn't worth what he seems to be seeking but if that's all there is...go for it.

I would be surprised if Solano returns. He is a free agent and not a priority for SF….

Castellanos will be 30 next year. Had 100 RBIs, scored 95, 34 HRs, batted .309, OPS .962 -- all in Cincinnati's little bandbox of a park. Career .278/.814. Durable player. Can play 3B and RF. Silver slugger, first time all star last year. Might be a good one to avoid, might be the only proven one available.

Garropolo didn’t fumble on a kick return or not have a protective edge on the first punt. He didn’t cause Moseley to go down or Warner and Deebo to be out.
They now are going to have to pony up if there are any good corners in FA or make a stunning trade of a star to grab a corner.
There are a bunch of crappy playoff contenders in the NFC. With Jimmy they have a chance. With Lance they don’t.
