Tuleubayev drilled a drive on 18, hit a great approach then rolled in his birdie putt to close out Vanderbilt!! Stanford wins! That's how you do it.

Survive and advance. To the finals!

A 20-foot walkoff birdie!  Woo-hoo!

A putt and a round that immediately enters Stanford Men's Golf lore. No words.

Texas and OSU coming down to the last match (tied)

RE: NCAA Championship - men's golf - 76lsjumb - 05-28-2019

So... yesterday's round was:

1) Sandbagging of epic proportions;
2) A genius strategy executed to perfection in order to ensure we would not be on OSU's side of the draw; or
3) Inexplicable?

Without the Golf Channel, I had to follow the thread here.  Too much drama!

And now we return you to your normally scheduled work....

That's golf. Some days you have it and then it's gone and you have to scramble like crazy. And an indication that match play can be very different from medal play.

Regarding this point (definitely true up through this championship), but the next 3 years Finals for both men's and women's golf will all be in Scottsdale, Arizona. So geographically, the Pac-12 will have the advantage over the other Power 5 conferences moving forward.

Does it really matter whether we play TX or OKST in the finals? Do we match up better with either? Clearly OKST has higher ranked players.

OKST is top-seeded and ran away with the stroke competition.  So yeah, from our point of view, it matters a lot.

Oh, we definitely want to play Texas.  Oklahoma State is far and away the best team in college golf, and any loss would be a fluke.  I would much rather a fluke today and have a good shot at Texas tomorrow than rely on a fluke tomorrow.

By the way, there is one match left to play in the Texas/Oklahoma semi-final.  Each side has won two, and Texas leads the last remaining match by 1 hole with three to play.

Well, if we play OSU we have a chance to redeem 1995 ... AND the Fiesta Bowl.

OSU also eliminated Stanford in the 2014 semifinals.

As 76lsjumb knows, Oklahoma State defeated Stanford in a playoff in 1995 in Tiger Woods' frosh year. The player who made birdie on the 1st playoff hole that was the difference and won the championship - Alan Bratton, the current Cowboy head coach.

OKST up 1 with one hole left.  Looks like we need to rope the Cowboys. Can someone send them a keg of beer tonight to celebrate their making the finals. :')

Texas makes a similar birdie to our clincher, and the deciding match is headed to extra holes!!

Make that keg Lonestar, just in case.

RE: NCAA Championship - men's golf - d4cohn - 05-28-2019

Advantage Texas, with birdie putt to advance, as well as
non-gimme for OK State for par.

Unbelievable!! OSU missed!! Card and Longhorns for the title tomorrow.

Btw, when he backed off the putt, I knew he was going to miss. Hit it way too firm (definitely nerves
on that putt).
