This is 100% spot on. It would just be so nice to one time see Shaw ahead of the curve on something, not only changing after damage (usually the too late to prevent losing as a result variety), has already been done. This is a through line you can see play out off the field and also in games.

2 more front seven (ILB and DL) offers make 62 in the class. As it pertains to the above commentary, the majority of offers are now going out earlier, a positive trend that started last year. Better late than never.

This may have been mentioned earlier, but we made TE Walker Lyons final six, along with Alabama, BYU, Utah, USC and the Ohio State University. According to the linked article, Lyons will be graduating in December 2022 and taking his LDS mission. So maybe he is looking for early enrollment in January 2024, full participation in spring ball, strength and conditioning and be ready to play in fall 2024, as opposed to taking a redshirt year. Or I have no idea what I'm talking about.

He's not a mega-whale but he's a national top-100 prospect and would be a fantastic addition. Given our history of producing NFL tight ends we should be a strong contender to get him aside from all the other obvious factors.

My gut says Stanford or BYU (LDS and family went there). If we don't land him, it certainly won't be for lack of trying; I believe coach Turner has visited his high school no fewer than five times in the past few months.

This may be the run stopper that is needed on the DL, but he may be hard to pry away from Cal unless during his campus visit to the Farm unless he is allowed to roam through CTG on game day.

Vasek (4*/high 3* Edge, Austin TX) and Presley (4* CB, Seattle WA) make 65 total offers, the exact same as 2022 at this point in the cycle.

I know that it's still early and the transfer portal is impossible to predict, but USC already has three 5-star HS commits for 2023, per 247sports. One of those happens to be Malachi Nelson, the #2 HS QB recruit in the nation. And, by all accounts, Lincoln Riley is a good coach.

You're telling me a historical blue-blood with a new well-hyped coach (who is a GREAT recruiter) is recruiting like one by landing 5* kids in its own backyard?

Mediocre coaches at USC can routinely land 5*, top-20 talent. The challenges for them has been converting that talent into a team that plays up to the talent it has. Three coaches since Carroll have failed to do it, but Riley has demonstrated he can coach. The reason to worry about USC and Riley is not that he is recruiting well, but that he might actually get his recruits to play up to their potential.

While Riley has demonstrated he can coach, he hasn't yet demonstrated he is a "fit" for USC. His previous experience is in places where the Coach was undoubtedly the boss and the players did as they were told. For quite a while, USC hasn't been that way. Carroll was able to convince the players that doing what the coaches said was to their advantage, but it was not a "command" society even then. It worked because they won enough that everybody could go to the NFL. How that will all shake out with Riley is still TBD. If he can get and maintain control, USC will return to being a powerhouse. If not, more of the same.

2010: Lane Kiffin head coach, five 5-stars (Carroll's recruits)
2011: 1
2012: 1
2013: 4
2014: Steve Sarkisian head coach, 2 (Kiffin/Orgeron/Helton's recruits)
2015: 4
2016: Clay Helton head coach, 2 (Sarkisian/Helton's recruits)
2017: 2
2018: 4
2019: 1 (plus 1 5-star transfer)
2020: 0
2021: 1
2022: Lincoln Riley head coach, 1 (plus 1 5-star transfer) (Helton/Williams' recruits)
2023: 3 and counting
So yeah, the fact that USC has three 2023 commits and they are all 5-stars has me concerned. USC has not recruited consistently at Pete Carroll levels since...Pete Carroll.

I am not really concerned. USC is supposed to be perennially good given their blue blood status. Let's worry about not being dead last in the Pac-12 first. This thread is about STANFORD'S class of 2023.

Tiger noticed the thread drifting and decided to put a stop to it himself!
Was ultra-productive (80 catches, 1400+ yards, 16 TDs in 11 games) in a good SoCal league. We need 3 WRs in this class and this is a very good start.
