RE: Stanford Women's Volleyball - Softball Fan - 02-24-2021

Good news.  The two matches with OSU are on this weekend.   If you go by W-L percentage, this will be a battle for Stanford to get out of 11th place in the PAC-12.

Stanford is 70-0 against OSU. This could break the streak.

BobK please post when the team arrives at OSU.  There's a good chance of no cancellation if the team actually makes the trip there.

I rely on Instagram Palo Alto but certainly agree if they flat up game is on
Both games are listed on the Pac 12 channel on go Stanford but on my tv I only see the Saturday game on tv.

RE: Stanford Women's Volleyball - oldalum - 02-24-2021

Yes, if your TV provider carries Pac-12 you should be able to stream Pac-12 Oregon from either your provider's web site or pac-12.com or (in theory) the Pac-12 mobile app. However the mobile app has been broken at least for Comcast/Xfinity customers all season.

OSU tweet four hours ago indicating match is still on.

Programming according to OSU website (no way to know if it is accurate):

WATCH
• Friday's match will be televised on Pac-12 Oregon and Bay Area Regional channels.
• Saturday's match will be televised nationally on the Pac-12 Network.
• Fans can find the stream by visiting the volleyball schedule page on osubeavers.com.

RE: Stanford Women's Volleyball - BobK - 02-25-2021

What a shame.

RE: Stanford Women's Volleyball - BostonCard - 02-25-2021

Shame, but I think we would have been more surprised if we had somehow pulled this off.

Halfway through the schedule and they have played 4 matches.

RE: Stanford Women's Volleyball - oldalum - 02-25-2021

all this is compromising practices as well as games.

RE: Stanford Women's Volleyball - BobK - 02-25-2021

We have not had a real practice, all players, since March of last year. Need 12 don’t have that many

https://volleyballmag.com/athletes-unlimited-volleyball-begins-022621/

A new professional women's volleyball league in the USA starts today.  Well, they're calling it "professional".  What do the players make for the entire season?  $10,000.   I believe there are a couple former Stanford players in it but I don't have enough interest to check it out

I give the league two years before it folds in bankruptcy.  The US is not a good fan base for professional volleyball.  Great interest in participation at the prep level but the interest doesn't transfer over to being a spectator of the sport.

RE: Stanford Women's Volleyball - BobK - 02-27-2021

Cassidy Lichtman is the leader.  You remember her?

RE: Stanford Women's Volleyball - johnbar - 02-27-2021

Stanford alum Payton Chang is on the staff of Athletes Unlimited, but not playing.
Social Media coordinator for volleyball.

Interesting concept but for the fan, changing team rosters every match and this eliminating the concept of team loyalty is a question mark.

They seem to have provided good streaming options, though. I guess we’ll see how this plays out.

RE: Stanford Women's Volleyball - Softball Fan - 02-27-2021

There was an Athletes Unlimited match on FS2.  I watched for 15 minutes and then got bored.   If this concept can't keep a volleyball addict engaged I don't see much future.  It's basically a series of meaningless exhibition games.   Volleyball is not the type of sport where you can mix a bunch of random players together and get high level results.

About half the players haven't played in some time.  Some of them looked like they've been spending more time at McDonalds than in the weight room.   If AU management is reading this, I recommend you rethink your concept and go back to a format of traditional teams where loyalty can be built up by fans.

RE: Stanford Women's Volleyball - martyup - 02-27-2021

If it wasn't for fan loyalty, I wouldn't watch women's volleyball, soccer, softball, beach volleyball, or tennis.  Sure, I like to see good competition and exciting plays.  But I'm more interested in seeing my chosen team win.  I have tried to watch other teams play and I am just not interested.  I like watching other Pac-12 football games, but not men's basketball or baseball.

So, I agree with PA that AU has made a big mistake with their format.
