Yeah, much has changed. People like to hear themselves and some are an expert on everything.

RE: OT: Giants real season starts now. - BobK - 10-30-2020

Or for this recently called sucker much is the same as the 60s

Back to baseball the Giants need to sign their own free agent pitchers and there are three with Watson.

RE: OT: Giants real season starts now. - BobK - 11-01-2020

George Springer of the Astros is a free agent. Even at age 31 he has power and Is a good CFer

RE: OT: Giants real season starts now. - cardcrimson - 11-01-2020

I guess the rest of the team is so good, they don't need a second baseman. . . .

Or none of them were worth including...just kidding.

Has to be Eddie Collins.  Hall of Fame .860 OPS, 741 steals.  Had more than 3x times as many walks as strikeouts.  Most sacrifice hits in MLB history with 512.  The perfect #2 hitter behind Henderson.

RE: OT: Giants real season starts now. - Mick - 11-01-2020

Top Yankees by position

RF Reggie Jackson
LF Babe Ruth (the Babe played in 1,047 games in LF...so he's my left fielder)
CF Joe DiMaggio
DH Mickey Mantle
1B Lou Gehrig
2B Robinson Cano
SS Derek Jeter
3B Alex Rodriguez (1,194 games at 3B)
C Yogi Berra
P Whitey Ford edges out Waite Hoyt.
RP Mariano, of course

RE: OT: Giants real season starts now. - BobK - 11-01-2020

Push em Up Lazzeri at 2B. Joe Gordon backs him up.

RE: OT: Giants real season starts now. - Mick - 11-01-2020

Top Dodgers by Position

P Sandy Koufax
C Campanella
1B Gil Hodges
2B Jackie Robinson
SS Pee Wee Reese
3B Ron Cey
LF Zack Wheat
CF Duke Snider
RF Carl Furillo
RF

RE: OT: Giants real season starts now. - BobK - 11-01-2020

Tommy Davis LF
Hershiser RHP

RE: OT: Giants real season starts now. - Phogge - 11-01-2020

Agree with Bobbbb on Push Em Up. Whitey overall but if I HAD to win one game I go with Allie Reynolds.

Dodgers, Billy Cox at third. A magician. Newcombe over Orel. Tommy Davis got hurt before he could put up a body of work. Wheat is the guy. Furillo in the argument with Clemente and Winfield on best RF arm.

RE: OT: Giants real season starts now. - BobK - 11-01-2020

Definitely Cox. Thanks
Allie Reynolds a great pick

RE: OT: Giants real season starts now. - Mick - 11-01-2020

Giants extended Kevin Gausman a qualifying offer.  Guess they'd like to keep him.

SF and Gausman’s agent are working on a long term deal.  The QO is cover for the Giants in case they can’t reach an agreement (SF would receive a draft choice if he declines the offer and signs with another team).

Others who received a QO:

George Springer
Trevor Bauer
DJ LeMahieu
JT Realmuto
Marcus Stroman

I think it is safe to say that none of those guys will be on Zaidi’s shopping list.  Giving up draft choices is not the way he does business.

RE: OT: Giants real season starts now. - Phogge - 11-01-2020

Can Farhan get a top pick for the Niners since Joey is consistently mediocre.

RE: OT: Giants real season starts now. - cardcrimson - 11-01-2020

Agree, as I noted earlier, Eddie Cocky Collins at 2nd Base. . ..

Joey will be fine.  It is Jimmy that Bay Area fans should worry about....

RE: OT: Giants real season starts now. - Phogge - 11-01-2020

Senior moment. I'd trade for the second pick and grab Justin Fields. Jimmy G has no mobility, ankle or not.

RE: OT: Giants real season starts now. - Phogge - 11-02-2020

Just to PO Outsider a bit more here's the All Time lineup for the second most successful team of all time, the Cardinals.

1B Pujols
2B Hornsby
SS Ozzie
3B Ken Boyer
OF Medwick
OF Brock
OF Musial
C Ted Simmons
P Grover Cleveland "Pete" Alexander

Hard to leave out Johnny Mize, Dean, Gibson and Bruce Sutter.

Even in non covid depressed market times, I don't see how a QO (even with draft compensation) to Gausman makes sense.  Admittedly,  i haven't followed him this past year,  but he was basically a journeyman with some unrealized upside.   When I first saw he was on the list,  I was thinking he should accept the offer ASAP.  Is he someone that could be a #2 starter on a pre-expanded playoffs team?  Charlie Morton just had his $15M option declined.  He was much better than Gausman when he signed 2 years $30M 2 years ago in a normal market.

I guess the money they saved on Pillar is finally being repurposed. =)
