Other long gone SF bars were Jimmy’s on 30th Street, the Pub across from Sears on Burial Hill and My House on Balboa. Used to look at the Racing Form on Friday nights at the Marina Lounge. Outstanding female clientele.

Bonds doesn’t make HOF Kuiper doesn’t win Frick Award. More ticked about the latter. Some guy that died in 78 did.
Report that Yankees and Giants both have offers on table to Judge. And Giants offer much stronger. Who knows if that’s true. Or if it is, whether Yankees just come in and say “ok, we will match.”

John Graney won last year (2022. - year of induction) This year’s award winner (2023) has not been announced yet. Kuip is still in the running.

Not a lot shocks me these days, but...
ELEVEN YEARS for Trea Turner?!?!?!?! That is just mind blowing.
The Phillies now have FIVE All-Star level every day players they acquired outside their system:
- OF Bryce Harper
- IF Trea Turner
- C JT Realmuto
- OF Kyle Schwarber
- OF Nick Castellanos
The Giants just pick their nose.

Let the record show that the Giants have won more World Series in the last 13 years than Philadelphia has in their entire history.
Spending lots of money doesn’t necessarily yield championships. Heck, LA and San Diego didn’t even get to the World Series in ‘22. All they have to show for their efforts is a fat revenue tax bill.
SF has to wait until Judge makes his call. Once he selects NY, I expect the Giants to move quickly on a SS.
We shall see……

Let the record show the Phillies acquired all these players after the Giants won their last World Series. Let the record show the Phillies were in the World Series in 2022 while the Giants didn't make the expanded playoffs. Also let the record show the Giants won those World Series with a different GM/VP of Baseball Operations than they have now. Let the record show the Giants haven't won a playoff series in 8 years.
The fact is the Giants have been cheap, not because they haven't been signing top of market free agents, but because they are the 5th most valuable franchise in MLB and aren't signing them.

I don’t envy MLB GMs. The new generation of GMs, like ours, were raised in the moneyball era, to find value in undervalued players.
The vast majority of these massive contracts will not be good values and underperform. That said, you can’t take money with you and while you need to build through draft and develop, no team is good enough to win with that without supplementing with free agents. The best teams do both, draft, develop, and hold your nose and overpay for talent that will likely underperform. The key is to identify the right talent, and that’s a bit of a crapshoot to find who ages better and who gets hurt.

True. Aaron Judge, however, will more than pay his own salary in increased revenue.

Trea Turner turned down a $342 million offer from San Diego to sign with Philadelphia for $300 million. Location, location, location.
SF has offered $360 million to Judge. The expectation is that he will wind up with a $375 million/10 year deal (give or take a few million).

Quite frankly, after reading and listening to a bunch of stuff today, I wouldn’t be surprised…..
The big question in my mind is, “Ok, who else?” The Giants need a lot more than just one guy. Would this take them out of the running for Nimmo? Would they still be in the mix for Senga? And what about SS?
Inquiring minds want to know…..

Judge or no Judge, the Giants need Carlos Rodon. He's the top FA Pitcher available and the Giants would have potential for a dominant three with Rodon, Webb, and Harrison.
But they have so many holes to fill.

Forget Rodon. SF is fishing in the second tier pond. Given their success in finding talent in that pool, I think it is a good idea. This would allow them to put the big buck contracts in front of much needed position players.
Manea is a possibility and, of course, Senga is still available.
Update: Welcome, Mitch Haniger. 3 years, 43.5 million with an opt out after year 2. The good ship Nimmo has officially sailed…..

Think that may be too broad of a speculation. Not sure if the Mariners were interested, but my guess is that California didn't suit the kid from the Southeast. He turned down a $342 million deal with the Padres for a $300 million deal with the Phillies. Wow.
