Wilke to Utah

Good for Utah, but ouch for Stanford. I see Utah now the overwhelming Pac 12 favorite for next year.

Watched game film on Wilke.  Good shooter for sure, but not the kind of guard who can create her shot.  IF Stanford was fortunate to acquire a guard, hope we would do better than her.

RE: Class of 2024+ - BosCard - 04-25-2023

With the recent transfers, our 2024 recruiting class has become pretty critical.  We will have 5 or 6 scholarships available (if Green remains a walk-on).  I'm making some assumptions below (that our 2023 class all become rotation players and that our bench players this year don't but some of those players could swap with each other).  Overall, it shows that we are pretty thin everywhere in '24-'25 and really need a good 2024 recruiting class.

Potential '24-'25 Rotation
Center - Iriafen (Sr)
Power Forward - Demetre (Sr), Agara (So)
Wing / Shooting Guard - Bosgana (Sr), Ogden (So)
Point Guard - Lepolo (Jr), Clardy (So)

Bench - Harriel, Papadaki, Green

I'm thinking we need at least 5 players in the 2024 class.  Pretty much every position is a position of need except possibly PG if Lepolo and Clardy can handle that spot and with Swain coming in 2025.  I could see us looking for one player at each position.  Or 2 centers, 1 PF, and 2 wing/shooting guards.

Well, we have had pretty good luck recently with players from the Spokane area.

She's got a lot of Pac-12 offers, e.g. Cal, SC, WSU, Oregon, ASU, Colorado, plus the Zags. 6'2", but it looks like she might be a 3 in college.

In HS she doesn't play against the quality of competition the Hulls did. So good to see her excel in off season.

In HS she doesn't play against the quality of competition the Hulls did. So good to see her excel in off season.

A story about my experience with Colfax high school.  My high school played Colfax in football my senior year.  I caught a pass at the back of the end zone at the end of the first half with the line of scrimmage was around the 40 yard line.  The referee was 20 yards away or more and ruled I was out of bounds (we were the away team and did not get close calls).  Don't think I was out.  In disgust, I threw the ball back to the referee (who still not close to me) and jogged to the sideline without keeping my eye on the throw.  Apparently, the referee was not a receiver in high school, as he did not catch the ball and it nailed him below the belt where it hurt.  I was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct.  Was surprised, as I had just thrown a tight spiral to him with no intent to do any more than get him the ball.  Really did not matter, the touchdown was not given and the half was over.  Unfortunately, I did not even see it, and had to hear about it from my laughing teammates, as we went to the locker room.   Good memories of the game as we did win.

triangle2 - triangle2 - 04-27-2023

For context, Colfax is classified as a 2B school in Washington, which means it has an average total enrollment of 105 to 224 students for 9th through 11th grade. The Hulls played at Central Valley, which is a 4A school (enrollment for 9th through 11th of 1300+).

RE: Class of 2024+ - BosCard - 04-28-2023

Could we please add 2026 Post Olivia Vukosa to the list.  She's a top player being recruited by everyone and she just tweeted that she received a Stanford offer and the Stanford Women's Basketball twitter just started following her.

RE: Class of 2024+ - BobK - 04-28-2023

Of course Bos Card. Done and thanks.
Vukosa already has about 20 good offers

RE: Class of 2024+ - WBB fan - 05-11-2023

Haven't posted or commented in this thread for a long time and there's a reason why -- having nothing to do with who specifically is or is not committing to the Card. I continue to be interested in who does sign on, but not in the way I was in the past. Seems to me that with the advent of such an active transfer portal (and market), who decides to go where as a first year is much less relevant that it was in past years. Thus I just can't get as excited by the news that a top player has committed to Stanford, or elsewhere. Will she stay for 4 years and be a part of an exciting, evolving team? That's no longer a given.

But there are other aspect of the recruitment process for Stanford that do occur to me that are relevant for 2024 and beyond. Stanford can now say to prospects, if you come to Stanford, you can have a high level confidence that as you grow and improve, we won't be bringing in someone through the transfer portal to replace you before you're ready to step into a major role.  There's another new argument in the recruiting wars that some coaches can use -- come to X school and give us a try. If you're unhappy, you can always move on elsewhere.  I don't see Stanford using that one much, if at all, but it's there as a subliminal element of recruiting today.

So, bottom line, I care about who signs on with the Card, but not in the way that I did before the past year. The world has just shifted too much -- and in a critical way relevant to recruiting out of HS that I haven't seen addressed adequately, on this or other thread on the Cardboard, or elsewhere as well in the things that I read.

2024 Toby Fournier commits to Duke

RE: Class of 2024+ - Card10Fan - 05-18-2023

2024 Avary Cain to UCLA - their third commit for that class. UCLA has dominated recruiting as of late, especially against us.

They now have Kendall Dudley, Cain, Amanda Muse, Kiki Rice, Lauren Betts - all Stanford recruiting targets

its sure helps recruiting when the head coach mentions the NIL for UCLA women's basketball is/or will be paying out $70K per player.
