Xu needs to steady herself. She has bogeyed 3 of the last 4 holes. Her match is all square.

Englemann is all square through 15
Xu is all square through 13
Seay is all square through 13

RE: WGolf - 2023 thread - oldalum - 05-23-2023

all even now. Whoever wins 2 of the 3 tied matches will win. Time for us to come thru in the clutch.

RE: WGolf - 2023 thread - Spiny_Norman - 05-23-2023

Englemann looked to be in a tough spot on 15. The match was all square. She was in a front bunker with her opponent within birdie distance. But Englemann hit a fantastic shot out of the bunker that was one roll short of going in. Pepperdine missed the birdie. Then Englemann hit it stiff on the par 3 16th for a birdie to take a 1 up lead.

17 is a driveable par 4 but Englemann laid up. She pushed her tee shot onto hard pack desert sand. From there, she hit another clutch shot to 5 feet for a birdie and the win!

Stanford leads 2-1. Xu or Seay needs to win for Stanford to advance. Both matches are all square.

#2 Texas goes down to A&M. . . .
USC is down to U$C 4-1

RE: WGolf - 2023 thread - oldalum - 05-23-2023

Xu birdied 14 to take a 1-hole lead!
Then lost 15, ugh

So impressed with Englemann…

RE: WGolf - 2023 thread - oldalum - 05-23-2023

Seay wins 15 to go 1-up, her first lead in the match!!

RE: WGolf - 2023 thread - BobK - 05-23-2023

Pepperdine with a super bad lie swings and misses

RE: WGolf - 2023 thread - Spiny_Norman - 05-23-2023

Xu and Higo all square going to 18. Higo drove into the native desert area near a bush and a tree root and whiffed (missed completely) her 2nd shot. She was able to get her 3rd shot out into the fairway. Big advantage Stanford. But Higo hits a fantastic fairway wood onto the green about 20 feet for par.

Seay on the 18th tee with a 1 up lead.

RE: WGolf - 2023 thread - BobK - 05-23-2023

Xu about 20 feet for a birdie

3-1. On to the semis for the Card

Langdude - Langdude - 05-23-2023

All right now!

RE: WGolf - 2023 thread - Spiny_Norman - 05-23-2023

Higo missed her par putt. Xu eased her birdie putt close to the hole where it was conceded. Stanford wins!!

Stanford advances to the semis vs. P12 foe USC. Matches to be decided within the next hour or so.

Golf Channel coverage begins at 2 pm.

I’m at work so can’t watch but I’m guessing Seay’s match will be conceded to her making it a 4-1 victory

Way to go Kelly & Sadie!!

On to the semis and the Toejams!

Some dirt flew into the ball and moved it so definitely a stroke.  If she would have missed and not disturbed the ball, could she claim it was a practice swing and not a countable stroke.?

That was an incredible shot; I believe it was 75 yards from the hole.  That's when I became a little more optimistic about Stanford's chances.

IMO excellent coaching strategy for match play by Stanford.

All Right Now!!  Now they can take down the Toejams.

IMO excellent coaching strategy for match play by Stanford.

You could not claim that it was a practice stroke. If you have “addressed the ball” (by putting your club down behind the ball), any swing counts as a stroke whether you make contact or not

Very different order for the semis and some interesting matchups

Coach is giving Kelly Xu a big vote of confidence putting her out first. She takes on Caroline Park whose missed 3 footer on 18 yesterday opened the door for Rose’s win. Tough matchup for Stanford

Sadie Englemann will also have a very tough match with Amari Avery who is U$Cs best player

Stanford will be heavily favored in the other 3 matches. I expect at least a 3-2 win with the potential to be 4-1

RE: WGolf - 2023 thread - Spiny_Norman - 05-23-2023

Coach Walker is making changes for the afternoon match.

1. Xu vs. Catherine Park
2. Ganne vs. Cindy Kou
3. Seay vs. Christine Wang
4. Englemann vs. Amari Avery
5. Zhang vs. Brianna Navarrosa

Xu gets the leadoff spot, indicating the brobdingnagian confidence Coach Walker has in her. Stanford won the lead match in the quarters, semis and finals last year and won the lead match earlier today. Xu will play USC's super frosh Park who nearly won the individual championship.

Ganne has not been as reliable as Xu lately. She shot a higher score each day of stroke play and lost earlier today. I get the sense that she is a momentum player. If she can make some putts early, it will help.

Seay gets the USC wildcard. The Trojans have rotated 3 players into 2 spots during the P12 championships, regionals and nationals so far. Wang did not play this morning. Malia Nam did and she lost badly. Wang will be rested.

Englemann vs. Avery is a marquee match. Avery was a 1st team All American last year.

Zhang vs. Navarrosa. Advantage Stanford.

1st tee time is 1:35 pacific.

RE: WGolf - 2023 thread - bl82 - 05-23-2023

Xu off to a strong start, up 2 thru 2 after a nice birdie putt at the 2nd
Ganne all square thru 1.

*****

Wow. Xu now +3 after three
Ganne still AS, now thru 2
Both Seay and Englemann won #1
So...3-0-1 as Rose tees off. Nice setup.

Don't jinx anything. . . .

Edit, and Rose starts with a double and is down one. . ..
